I am sure all of you guys have noticed ever since MJ died people have been trying to sell anything they can with Michael on it for ridiculous amounts.....well this one takes the cake for me.

The other day I am in a Goodwill store...most of you in the USA are probably familiar with this store, they might be in other countries too...basically people donate things like toys, clothes, furniture, old electronics, records, whatever, for free and the store sells everything for low prices. The idea is to "help out the community". Now the store has regular "set" prices for EVERY store. For example, vinyl records are 50 cents no matter what store you go in...DVDs are $2.50..etc.

Well anyway I went into one of my local Goodwills to find a BAD vinyl LP for $35 dollars!! Now I realize this probably doesn't seem that crazy due to the fact that anyone else would probably sell this for $100 and up, but the fact is they are making money off of someone's death, and this is SUPPOSED to be a store that is all about helping people out! How despicable! Of course I went nuts and said to the manager "um, excuse me I thought all records were 50 cents...why is this one $35 dollars?" the managers answer: "Oh, well he JUST died". I mean seriously can you believe this?

I already got a paper form they have in all their stores for "questions and comments" and I am currently trying to find their corporate HQ phone # so I can call and complain. you can find their email on http://www.goodwill.org/ if anyone wants to tell them what they think about this.
I am not trying to start a war or anything with this store but trying to rip people off by using someone's death is just ridiculous and they need to know this is going on!

I am from the UK and just curious does the money spent in these stores go to a specific charity or something??!! Because if thts the case i think it is a good thing and i am sure Michael would understand, Dont get me wrong i can see where you are coming from!!

unbelievable huh.....EVERYONE is trying to cash in on the name MJ.....makes me sick....I can understand your anger I know I sure would be if that happened to me...

Actually, it does. Goodwill uses the income from the stores to run various programs, including sheltered employment for those with mental and physical disabilities, giving toys to families in need at Christmas, and selling low-cost clothing and cooking equipment to those who can't afford to buy these things new. They supply clothing and basic necessities to people whose homes have burned down or have been flooded, and they provide other services. In the U.S. similar "thrift stores" are run by the Salvation Army, and the YMCA.

I see where "crows" is coming from, but the Goodwill is a non-profit charity and the money goes to do good works. In this instance, I'm pretty sure Michael would approve of helping people in need?

Thanks for clearing that up victoria :D I was just not 100% sure how it worked lol

well here is my problem with this...the managers of these stores get a commission based on how much they sell. So basically if they sell MJ things for inflated prices, the manager gets more money out of it....

that is what I am trying to say.....I don't think they ARE doing this to raise money or to help anyone out...I think the manager of this store is only doing this to benefit himself by using MJ's death. I don't think the manager was thinking "oh great I can sell this for $35 dollars and raise money for charity" I think he was really thinking "oh great I can sell this for $35 dollars because I KNOW some crazy MJ fan will buy it and I'll get more money on my paycheck this week"....the reason I know this is because I actually talked to 3 other people that work in this exact store who agreed with me that it was wrong to do this and they told me specifically that the manager there purposely jacks up the prices of items so HE can get more money....NOT to help anyone else out. That is my whole point from the beginning, this is really just about ONE person trying to make a profit off of his death and trying to pretend as if he is helping someone else out!

Our local Good WIll sends all of their money to support their rehab center for people with head injuries. I say if they can sell it for $35 dollars, they should do it. The stores are there to support the charity work that Good Will does.
