Here's one of my favorite Temptations songs: Old Man River

I was listening to that song a few weeks ago. That remake of Old Man River is over 30 years old; but it can rival--and leave in the dust--alot of the music on the radio today. The way Melvin Franklin's bass and the background vocals of Eddie, Paul, Otis and David (or was it Dennis by now?) blend in perfect harmony is classic and flawless. When you listen to the words as well as how Melvin is singing it, you can't help but be haunted, and touched about the horrors of slavery. It was like he was capturing exactly what those slaves were thinking and feeling back then. Beautiful classic.

I believe it was David. I think they did a remake of this with Dennis and the version has a slower, more soulful tempo to it. That's usually the version that is on some Temptations compilations and the Tempts did it that way until Melvin's death. "Old Man River" was to Melvin what "For Once in My Life" (the non-Stevie version) was to Paul Williams and what "People" was to the Supremes' Florence Ballard.
