Buttercup was a song from this allegedly existing unreleased album. It was written by Stevie Wonder & recorded by the Jackson 5 (or just Michael) in 1974. People said that Michael mentioned this album in the 80s and said he hopes it releases one day, is there any truth to this? Or is Buttercup just a one time collaboration song even though Michael has worked with Stevie in the future for other songs.

Around May of 1974 the Jackson 5 worked on some sessions with Stevie Wonder. The exact amount of tracks that were completed is not known but it is not enough for a full album. Besides "Buttercup" and the group providing background vocals on "You Haven't Done Nothin" for Stevie's album. We only know of a few more titles. According to a 1980 appearance by Jermaine when he performed the track on a TV show he did mention that "You're Supposed To Be Keep Your Love From Me" was originally recorded during these sessions. The basic track and the background vocals from Stevie were kept on the new version but they had to eliminate MJ and Jackie's vocals from the track. Jermaine was the lead singer on the original version and had always remembered it from those 74 sessions and wanted to put it out. He had contacted Stevie in 1979 to ask his permission to use the track. The other titles we have heard about are "No News is Good News" and "A Pretty Face Is". Another track that has never been mentioned but I want to bring up is "Make My Water Boil (Loving You Has Been So Wonderful)". I have never heard it connected to that project but I have a feeling it might have originally been written for that album. Stevie wrote and produced it in 1974 and David Ruffin sang it. If you listen to the track it has a definite J5 sound. I can totally hear MJ or Jermaine singing that. I feel like it was structured for them to sing it. Of course this is all speculation but I just wanted to throw it out there because I would not be surprised if that song was from those 1974 J5 sessions initially.

In the magazine "Jet", released in 1988, Stevie Wonder mentions the song "A Pretty Face Is" as a duet dating from 1974 and which he wants to include in his future album never released "Characters II".
Alright sounds like something that will surface someday!

These artists are always so vague! What is a few songs? 2 or 3 or 5?

You're supposed to keep your love for me is such a typical Stevie Wonder song, I love it! I consider you an expert what parts do you think would be sung by Jackie and what parts by Michael?

I noticed Stevie Wonder was heavily involved in Jermaine's Let's get Serious album. 3 songwriting credits, vocals on the title track, harmonica on YSTKYLFM. It's a great album.

Stevie also co-wrote Jermaine's 1986 song I Think It's Love with Jermaine & Michael Omartian. Omartian produced (& a co-writer of) Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin'

From what I understand Jackie and Michael just sang the background vocals along with Stevie. Jermaine had all the leads much like he does on the released version. I don't think the track itself changed much either as that track sounds more 1974 than it does 1979. I think Stevie just silenced Michael and Jackie on the faders and he possibly re-sang the background vocals.

Ah shame but nonetheless lovely song. Best song on the album it came from imo.
