Mrs. Katherine Jackson, the mother of the late, great music icon Michael Jackson, in partnership with global charity auction site Charitybuzz, launched "The Man, The Myth, The Legend: A Michael Jackson Tribute" auction, featuring never-before-seen photos and artwork from the legendary musician and entertainer. The auction will be open for bidding through Thursday, September 26 by visiting Charitybuzz.com.

Proceeds will benefit Mrs. Katherine Jackson's favorite charities in Gary, Indiana, including Roosevelt High Academy, Gary Commission for Women, Calumet Township Multipurpose Center, and the Male Empowerment Network Inc.

"I'm so overjoyed that Michael's beautiful drawings, unreleased photos, and the generous experiences from his friends will be able to impact some of the most important organizations here in Gary," said Mrs. Jackson. "Every year, we raise funds in Michael's memory, and this year with Charitybuzz on board, we hope to make an even bigger difference for these local organizations with our tribute auction."

Auction highlights include three original artworks created and signed by Michael Jackson – 7th Key, valued at $12,000; Fantasia – Wizard Mickey Mouse, valued at $10,000; and Pitcher Mickey Mouse, valued at $10,000, as well set of never-before-seen photos of Jackson by photographer Burt Harris, and experiences with Jaleel White and Bryton James.

Will you bid?

What a wonderful thing to do. Are these drawings that he left in the house when he went to live in Neverland? I wonder why she is doing this now, at the end of a trial, when in 2010 they were all working on tributes & charity.

Something iffy, and I just can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's because charity begins at home to all Jacksons except Michael.

The auction series of drawings are the three pictured below. The 'key' drawing below the series is (I believe) from the set of drawings revealed by BL strong, from the 'airport hangar' collection. BLS met Mrs Jackson( and was interviewed with her) at the time these drawings came into the public domain.
Michael's signature, and the key design, look to be from the same period in each 'key' drawing. Edit: In fact, the two drawings look so similar, that one could be a tracing of the other, including the signature.
The left-hand Mickey drawing' also appears to be from the same series.
I had thought that it was not established yet that BLS had 'legal title' to the drawings that he revealed. It is interesting that Katherine appears to be giving away very similar MJ drawings. Perhaps BLS gave one or more of them to her? Or perhaps these are some of the 10 from the same series that MJ was supposed to have kept?

I really wish that Katherine could give these original drawings to Michael's children for them to decide what to do with, once they reach maturity in years and experience. I thought that there was some indication that Michael wanted to sell his drawings and or prints to raise money to build a children's hospital.

and from 'Star' Magazine, 6th July 2011:

In a bid to usher through the deal, Strong recently reached out to Katherine and offered to financially compensate the Jacksons. But speaking exclusively to Star, the 81 year old patriarch stated she wanted the collection to be made available for Michael's fans to view. "I think his fans will want to see them because it was a part of him," she said. "Michael was always drawing or doing art. Now people are telling us the collection is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and all these people are trying to buy it.

So, this is the version of the 'Key' photographed with Katherine. It's a bit bigger (!) than the auction version, which is only about 25ins x 29 ins, according to the auction site. So how is it that Michael's signature looks exactly the same, in exactly the same place in the design? When I was young, I used to have a piece of drawing kit called a pantograph, which helped you to draw the same thing at different sizes. But why would Michael copy his own signature like that? I am really puzzled.

Interestingly, the 'Wizard Mickey' has a different MJ signature, more like the one MJ used to sign the BLS prints of 'The Book', which I believe was painted in 1990.

I believe The larger framed artworks are limited released "copies" such as the ones they donated to the hospital that was signed by the children and the one seen with Katherine. The smaller ones are the originals. That is why the signatures are the same. Both still have value.

IMO Donating them to charitable auctions is a good idea. We know how MJ raised his children. I don't see any reason to complain that they are donated to charitable causes. It was stated that was his future plans to use them for charity anyway. The first copies released were donated to a childrens wing in a hospital and signed by the children. (there is video) I'm sure they each have their own copies that they treasure. If they didn't want them auctioned for charity, they are certainly old enough to say NO if they want to keep them for themselves. I think like their father, they also have a generous spirit.

Actually, for Michael Charity did Begin At Home. That is why he took care of all of them, the house & its bills, and gave Katherine all that money for her to give to her children to pay their bills too. The difference is that Michael's charity was done with money he had/earned, whereas the Jacksons' charity is done with the "spoils from a charity". This means they do an activity in the name of charity so they can pocket most of the money. Then, they give a small portion to the charity.

About this artwork, since Thome is in a lawsuit and we know he signed some letter letting Strong have the art, what is going to happen to pieces like the above that were given? I mean, who really own these pieces? At first I thought she was auctioning paintings Michael did when he was living with her in the house.

Then, why come out with a Gary auction now, when the family had big ideas for Gary before, which fell through due to funding. Why didn't they think of the auction then? Why is it now with the ending of the trial, that public charity becomes so important? She knew about the need in Gary a long, long time ago.

I guess you are right, and they have changed the colour of the large printed version of 'The key'.

In terms of the donations I was not really thinking of monetary value, but of the human value of the connection to something created by their father's own hands. The children will inherit a lot of money and MJ's belongings, but the items actually handwritten or hand-drawn by Michael must surely be more 'special' for them to keep, as personal mementos? I accept that these drawings were owned by Katherine and were therefore hers to dispose of... but I hope that there are still plenty of their father's 'hand-created work' for the children to keep for themselves. Once the originals have been sold, I am not sure who will hold the copyright to make more copies for potential moneyraising efforts.....I guess the copyright stays with Katherine?

No one is complaining here. ;) The question is if really go to charity. I'll only believe it when I see pictures of Katherine in these intitutions to making a donation. Have to prove they really were for charity. :coffee: I do not trust blindly in the family. :nono:

Don't these drawings belong to the estate? I don't understand how Katherine has rights to auction Michael's possessions.

I might be wrong but I believe all the proceedings won't go to charity. I don't think Katherine was ever into charity, why is she into now? I don't understand why is so hard to understand that what Michael worked for so hard through out his life is for his children. He wanted it that way. He made that decision, it was his right, why can they just let things go the way Michael wanted. I try and try to understand the Jackson but it is really impossible for me to come with one good reason, the only reason I come to is just pure & simple greed. And that greed is going to destroy them.

^^I agree with Ashtanga and Aquarius. Knowing she was sued previously to profit off Michael's memorabilia (the Never Can Say Goodbye book), being part of the fake Heal The World fundation and knowing she's given money to her vhildren makes me highly question her intentions. I hope the Estate sue her again if she doesn't have rights to sell those beautiful drawings.

Well some of his possessions from his bedside ended up for sale right after he died, so we don't even know what other items from his home were already sold!!! We just find out about this because it is attached to some charity. We don't even know who owns it, due to that Thome-Stronge scam. I think the best thing to do is to hold on to the art until that case with Thome is finished, but it seems that Brette & Katherine are eager to give art to a hospital and now selling it for charity. Of course the art is not something they created themselves, so maybe it would be better for Katherine to paint or draw something and then auction that off for charity. In that way the charity will really come from her own efforts. Maybe she could draw a dollar sign ($), color it, & sign it.

I do agree that there are better ways of raising money for Charity. It is quite common now for artists to sell editions of 300 or 500 (or more) prints at maybe $150 to $600 dollars each. Print runs could have been made from the originals at different sizes and in different colours (as we have seen with the different versions of the key), perhaps numbered within each size and colour, and with a certificate of authenticity for each. I think this would raise way more money for Charity than will selling off the original pieces. You never get another chance to make money from an original...once it is gone, it's gone.

Just a thought...If the large key really is a print of the smaller key on a dark background, I wonder how many prints have already been made of the three auction originals that we don't know about? I wonder if the potential buyer(s) of 'the key' know (or care) that there is at least one print of this design already in existence. When people buy original art, they are usually paying for 'uniqueness' as well as the handmade nature of the item.

I think with things like this, drawings of Michael.. They should really be kept for future use.. One of the thigns I thought would always be cool to do is once they can focus on neverland.. To open it to the fan community, tours of Neverland and they can build a Michael Jackson museum on the property as well a little off the already built areas.. Tickets to view would have a good portion go to charity..

Drawings and single items like that are too rare to just sell to someone.. I mean, its not like MJ fedoras where there are 100's of them that selling one would bring in thousands.. and they can keep a decent amount for things lime museums etc. These drawings are not prints.. They are single items that I'd think they should keep.

Thats just me though, not saying anything against selling things to give to charity, but there are alot of other things to sell or do than single made items like that....

i smell something fishy. whenever i see the word 'charity' used in the same sentence with the jacksons, i think of scam. when they wanna scam people they hide behind dodgy charity endeavors. we've seen this many times before. At the end of the day, his children should be the ones to decide whether to give to charity. they should not be forced to give up MJ stuff just because MJ was a charitable person. the fact that MJ was giving to the point of going broke does not mean that his children should give too. They have no obligation or what so ever to be charitable.

If she doesn't have permission from the estate, would that be considered stealing?
