Chapter 1
(25)
Jada (18)
Haley (28)
Jake (30)
W**** *****’s Bizarre Thrill
J**** was spotted at the animal shelter last week. It was informed by an insider at the shelter that he likes to perform for animals, especially the less fortunate.
Michael stopped right there and tore the newspaper into pieces before shoving it all into the trash can. The stories by Haley Lenz were getting more and more bizarre.
He just got done from the long meeting with his manager, and now has to come home to these lies about him. The good thing was that his fans were smart, and knew that Haley was nothing but a liar.
But still, this just had to make the front page of the newspaper! Why are all her stories about him making the front page?
Michael went upstairs and soaked in the hot tub to calm himself down. It was really quiet. The steam rose up before him and evaporated into the air.
He wondered where he was going to take Jada tomorrow. Michael quickly got out of the tub, realizing that he actually forgot to call Jada. He was so upset about Leslie’s story that it distracted him.
He wrapped a robe around his body and rushed out the bathroom, heading over to his room to call her.
“Hey, Jada, sorry I called so late. I read an article from Haley and it just threw me off track and made me forget,” Michael told her when she picked up the phone.
“That’s okay, Michael,” she said in her sweet voice.
Michael knew that they couldn’t go on a date just anywhere. In fact, he really didn’t know where to go that would bring attention to him. There was this one restaurant his friend told him about that had a private area in the back where you had to make reservations to sit. “You’re still up for the movies?” he asked her, hoping she would say yes.
“Of course.”
“Good.” It was dark inside the theatre, a good place. “And I’ll take you to dinner before or afterwards?”
“Afterwards.”
“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow sweetheart.”
“Okay, Michael.”
They hung up, and Michael went back to rest in his hot tub.
Haley was eighteen and seven years younger than him. She was a freshman in college and he met her one afternoon when Janet brought her over to the house for a visit. They were good friends and at first Janet was a bit freaked out when finding out Michael was dating one of her friends. But now, she’s gotten over it, and it’s not a problem.
The calm surrounding Michael was really nice. He smiled, closed his eyes, and sunk deeper into the water so that only his head was submerged above the surface. All the horrible lies surrounding him seemed to disappear for that moment, if only they could go away forever.

Haley tossed the hate letters from Michael Jackson’s fans back onto the table. Maybe she should burn them. That idea really excited her.
She started the fireplace and went back to get the handful of letters on the kitchen table. The fired jumped when she tossed each letter in, one by one. It was as if the fire was more excited to burn the letter than she was, burn them to ashes, to oblivion.
The bright and lively fire glowed in her face, the heat radiating towards her with all the hatred that was in those letters. Haley never knew Michael Jackson’s fans could be so cruel.
Her attention swayed from the fire as she heard a knocking at the door. It was probably her boyfriend, Jake Castro. Sometimes, he came over for the night, and sometimes he didn’t.
Jake kissed her on the cheek as soon as she opened the door for him.
He was one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, and obviously, one of the most handsome. His celebrity status wasn’t the reason she was dating him though. She just genuinely liked him.
He was thirty years old, just two years older than her. Haley’s been engaged to him for six months already. Their wedding will be next month.
“I read that article you wrote in the newspaper about me,” he said. “I like it.”
“You’re welcome,” she replied, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I knew you would.”
“I saw that crazy story you wrote about Michael Jackson,” he chuckled. “That was hilarious.”
“They paid me seven thousand to write that piece, so I just wrote it. He’ll always be the fresh meat on the market that anyone’s willing to buy. It’s ridiculous. I don’t see what’s so great about him.” Haley can go on and on about his fans too, but when she saw that Jake didn’t really feel like talking right now, Leslie just let go of the subject and told him about the cookies that she baked him.
