"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Reviews are even worse than I’d imagined.

Critically panned 😢
No offense, but I knew this would be the case with critics as soon as I realized that they wouldn’t deal with the allegations since that’s all they really care about. It is what it is.

Mind you, these are some of the same people that gave the Elvis biopic glowing reviews.

What embargo are you talking about? Critics have been coming in before...
Those were not professional reviews. The review embargo was lifted at 2pm GMT today as you can see by searching Google. What you are referring to are "first reactions".

I have to say the reviews are a good bit worse than I had expected, which is disappointing.

What does that mean

100% is the best score, so 26% is kind of an average rating of 2.6 of 10 on IMDB. Which would make it one of the worst rated movies to ever be made.

Obviously the fuckbags rating the movie is not rating the actual movie, but what was not in it (the allegations). Or they simply was going to diss the movie because they think MJ was a child molester and dont care about the actual film! This is their chance to publicly slate Michael Jackson again through the film and they are not missing that opportunity!

Some of these assholes gave Leaving Neverland like 90-95% despite all the lies and manipulation in it....its not about the film itself its about taking sides.

Worse than I expected, but there was no universe where an MJ biopic gets critical praise unless it depicted him as a depraved pedophile. I’m seeing some reviews genuinely critical about the quality of the movie we got, but the overwhelming majority are harping on their decision to not address the allegations, which is exactly what we all knew would happen.

Exactly this!

This was clear from the start this would happen, and it was a risk they were ready to take when the decision was made to deal with the allegations maybe later or maybe not (part 2).

Its unfortunate this has to be mentioned at all. Michael derserves to be celebrated, and in the spirit of the higher conciousness questlove mentioned we should do just that.

I don’t get why anybody here even cares 1 bit for those critic reviews. We knew from the start that they would absolutely destroy it. MJ doesn’t **** kids = 1/10 in their mind. The audience score is what’s important, and the reactions I’ve seen from them are great!
What we can do is leave our own reviews where the public can make reviews and ratings :) The elite pages for select people are obviously rigged (Rotten Tomatoes)

I'm so pissed at them. They can't even write a constructive review of the movie without alluding to the allegations. I knew they wouldn't be objective. You don't have to like the movie but it's becoming tiresome to hear this again. They call themselves journalists... 😖🙁

That’s not true. Rotten tomatoes works differently. Basically, the 26% is the percentage of critics who liked the movie.

Still very few reviews there.
Letterboxd is showing 3.6/5 (its mixes with general public and critics.

A Michael movie was always likely to be trashed by critics, especially when they are not mentioning the allegations.

That’s why I thought it would be smarter to officially announce the part II before release.

The public opinion will probably be much better.

Not surprising and actually quite funny.

Leaving Neverland got a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score for reference.
They gave Leaving Neverland a score of 98% but the audience gave the documentary a score of 27%.
Remember, they tried to sabotage the MJ musical and now it's one of the highest grossing musical

Honestly I feel sick at those reviews.

I knew this is exactly what they were gonna do but it’s ridiculous how bad they genuinely are.

IGN , 3/10? Come on to ****!?? Surely it’s not that bad. The fan reaction is what matters most but this feels like an agenda against the MJ name.

If you need validation from pretencious snobby out of touch critics then you will cry over their reviews

But those of us who stopped caring what hollyweird thought years ago, especially those of us who have watched them pan every movie with a black cast for decades will just roll our eyes and ignore them as usual.

If anything I am even more excited now. I might go and see it some more times. Help make it more of a success so they can look even more stupid
Yep! I'm seeing it multiple times. Screw the critics. We all knew they'd do this. They don't see any humanity in MJ and want him to be portrayed as a depraved sick monster. Since this film doesn't do that, they are panning it. They hate Michael's guts.

They wish he'd dissappear or be solely remembered for the controversies.

Am I surprised they're panning the movie? Not at all. I'm not sad. I'm annoyed but not surprised.

MJ's legacy has kept on thriving IN SPITE of the disgusting, hateful media.
