"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

This is going to be so boring if it ends at the 80s.
It's hard to imagine the bad reviews this is going to receive having to remove such a massive portion, the start of the accusations, ending with them still hanging over him .I feel so gutted the excitement of hearing how everything was going to be covered made me think yes this is going to be great. Now I feel so deflated im sorry if I seem negative but I can't help how I feel,I kind of wish it would be scrapped especially with all of this latest robson/ safe chuck shit, it feels like the whole thing is just going to end up being another topic of debate about michael and on and on it goes

I will just drop MJvibes text about these rumors as nobody has left any link or info about actually what news is being discussed here :)

"After months of rumors, production chaos, and legal drama, it looks like “Michael” has finally wrapped editing. But according to recent reports, it’s not quite the movie director Antoine Fuqua and screenwriter John Logan originally intended to make.

Sources close to the production say that Fuqua and Logan were forced to completely rethink the film after a rights dispute involving one of the former accusers made a significant amount of already-shot footage legally unusable. The fallout from that dispute was huge: entire storylines and sequences had to be scrapped, leaving potentially only half of the original film set to release next year.

Puck’s Matt Belloni, who, it must be said, has a reputation for leaning on rumor more than verified fact, recently reported that the final version of “Michael” now concludes with Michael Jackson’s meteoric rise to superstardom in the 1980s, stopping before the turbulence, controversy, and the Neverland years that defined much of his later life.

That’s despite the fact that Fuqua reportedly shot two full weeks of footage at Neverland Ranch which, if true, would be scrapped completely.

Producer Graham King, however, isn’t throwing in the towel. He’s already laying the groundwork for a potential follow-up film that would focus on Michael Jackson’s “King of Pop” years, provided, of course, that “Michael” performs well at the box office. The plan would be to reunite the core cast, including Jaafar Jackson (Michael’s nephew, who portrays the man himself), Colman Domingo, and Miles Teller, and continue the story from where the first film leaves off.

The sequel only moves forward if “Michael” becomes a hit when it opens next April. If it doesn’t, the unused footage, reportedly hours of it, will go straight to the vault. Given that the Estate has been footing much of the bill for this production, that would mean swallowing a major financial loss.

Earlier this year, when things were looking more optimistic, Fuqua’s original cut was said to run nearly four hours long. Lionsgate had even considered splitting it into two parts, turning “Michael” into an event film in the vein of “Wicked.” Now, it seems the second half, about two hours of finished material, may never see the light of day.

Still, Lionsgate (handling domestic distribution in the US) and Universal (managing international) are pressing ahead. The first official trailer for “Michael” is expected to drop in November, attached to “Wicked: For Good.” How that trailer is received could determine whether this ambitious project rises or falls.

Again, these are still rumors, but multiple independent sources and film industry insiders have reported the same story. As Michael Jackson fans, we know that to truly understand Michael, his entire story needs to be told, especially the later years of his life. We also know that Michael continued to create incredible music, visionary short films, and experience significant life events throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Omitting those decades is simply not acceptable to us."

I mean, I'll be happy if they're gonna make another film about his later years. If the footage was removed because it couldn't be used then I assume they'd have to shoot it all again differently. So the part of the report that says they'll use that footage again doesn't make any sense to me.

so is the radio silence from these months is because they are not longer confident about the end project? yeah this isn't looking good so far

Regardless of what is true or rumour - I'm pretty sure this film will fall into the "troubled production" category when all comes out in the wash.

As it's the MJ Estate, do not expect them to be forthcoming with regards to anything negative to do with the production later on.

It's clear things have not gone to plan at all.

Hmm, if they indeed are eying a two parter, wouldn't this narrative actually make sense? Heat up the momentum of the movie and the appetite of the public with his early, prior allegations, years' highlights, then if massively successful, make a second movie to fight those allegations.

it's not the fact that they had to redo the movie, that bothers me, as more the fact that they are unsure if this new project is good or not. I wish I was wrong but the way they are moving suggest that they are no longer that excited about it. last year they were giving away footages, leaks, an exclusive about the trailer etc, this year is.. nada.

I'm not sure anyone will work with the estate again.to overlook what they have in regards to chandler was so incompetent, we were told no stone unturned the good and the bad,the producers of this must be reeling if indeed this is all true

if they've fucked up the film AFTER shooting im pinning every single issue on the estate and no one else. THEY should have had the legal issues fixed and THEY should pin the cost.
wait for official announcements

You must all have blinkers on! The many people who THINK! they know about this film probably at best have got snippets and then they try to piece it all together for what ? Click bait! Look at what has come out with regards Michael! First TII ! SUCCESS! then cirque shows ! Success, then Michael One show Success ! Last venture The Mj Musical massive Success! Wait and see because that's all we can do but for me to see Jaafar play Michael and in particular see his personal take on his Uncle with all his knowledge first hand how he was and hear him talk and act out certain events etc to show the real person will be eye opening and I think this is what will make this film huge! The director etc who are connected to this are not fools and I am sure we will see a side of Michael we have never saw. Even more than TII! Enough said!

Really hope your right, i want it to be huge im just so skeptical at this time, we all have our own thoughts ,I just feel my excitement slipping away.Maybe its all a tatic and we will indeed be getting something special🤞

These guys writing the script , directing the film and not forgetting the most important thing! Michael's music! Won't fail and I am reading all over Facebook that the Wicked follow up is getting already filled up just on the premise of the first showing of the Michael Teaser/Trailer!

This place sometimes now has more negativity in it than when I first joined. I know that was a long time ago and Michael was alive but you need to trust in the fact the estate definetly will not want to see this fail. I can see it now, critics might slag it off like the MJ Musical but the fans and anybody that liked any of Michael's music even if its only a tiny bit will be talking about this for years!

OK. So its massively rumoured and it seems logical given both from same studio! The first teaser will be shown before Wicked part 2!

darn, i dont wanna see the movie, i just wanna see the teaser! 😭😭😭

i will never understand fans who have such a high opinion of the estate when they have proved multiple times through the years to be perfectly capable of botching rereleases, music videos, documentaries, stealing money... shit, the same estate that forgot about the 93 settlement while the movie was being shot??!?!
