"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

We're getting a $150m biopic. Anybody expecting a full posthumous album with unheard music is missing the point.
We had a handful of evidence that there was new material on the way though. I doubted there'd be a fully fledged album but it wasn't unfair to expect there would be a new release of some form, especially since it's usually the standard for biopic soundtracks to include some kind of new content as an incentive for fans to buy.

Huge miss if this "companion album" is all there will be, someone correct me if I'm wrong but it isn't 100% confirmed if there'll be a Part 2 yet, right? Someone at Lionsgate said it's "very likely" but it's still not completely certain, they're waiting to see how Part 1 is gonna perform. In that case the Estate should be pushing for new releases to get more people hooked into the Michael Jackson brand and motivate them to go see Part 1 rather than doing it at some other point in time. It's bad that the Estate is still wanting to cut corners during what's arguably the biggest MJ release since "This Is It".

You can win tickets, but it's with hotel, red carpet, yada, yada. But I just want to watch the movie 😭😅. And it's not sure yet if you can buy tickets soon or if there's only some limited amount of them you can win.
Where, I also didn't find anything?! Maybe you can post that in the German fans section. I would not mind the carpet if I don't have to pay for it :p

Part 2 hasn't been confirmed officially, although a lionsgate exec described Michael as "clearly a part 1" or something along those lines (not the exact quote).

You're the one missing the point - I don't think I've seen one post thinking that is what would be released. The issue people have is that this is all the album versions already released many times over, when we know there are several live performances in the film. It took me 2 minutes to create the album on Spotify as it will be released.

The unusual thing with that soundtrack, is for a film that is like 2 hours 10 minutes (I think) there's not that much music really. I was expecting most of it to be performances

I think leaving out Dancing Machine, Rock With You and Heartbreak Hotel is strange. Those songs seem vital as a glimpse into Michael's early career as a dancer, solo artist and songwriter in each case

I don't understand how they are moving. How are they so confident in talking about potential second movies if they are barely promoting this first part? This 'companion' album is ridicolous and their usual low effort crap. They postponed and ignored so many projects, including re-issues and re-release and the excuse was because the biopic was coming and had to focus on biopic promotion. Now we're a month away from the biopic and they are barely promoting. Aren't they interested in making 1B? Because so far seems that the only thing precluding them from profit is their own laziness and lack of proper marketing for this movie. As someone said this is their biggest thing since This Is It and they aren't doing shit. It's unacceptable from a multibillion dollar worthy estate

This is the post from April 25 I was referring to.
Apparently it was just rumors, I remembered wrongly that it had been an official statement.

Insiders claim that the ultimate goal would be for a composition to stand a chance of the late King Of Pop to get an Oscar nomination. Currently English super producer Graham King - who won an Oscar for We Will Rock You - is overseeing a reworking of the biopic, called Michael.

So no hope for a new song coming as surprise then 😕

I’m raging at the thought of those songs not being in the movie , especially rock with you.

We have already seen heartbreak hotel in the trailers though unless that’s just being used as a montage and a different song will be over the top of it

There will be a part 2 and it will be clear within less than a month.
How are they so confident in greenlighting a sequel given how they are moving currently? I have heard that Universal was reluctant to properly promote this movie, the Estate and Lionsgate are doing the usual minimum effort job, and a true worldwide promotion hasn't even started yet. Are they confident that this movie will make billions off his name alone? Because so far they haven't done anything of the "unprecedented" promotion they promised. Many don't even know this movie exists. Sorry to be harsh but as you already know, many want the best out of this movie, both when it comes to reception and performance and currently neither is guaranteed.

They will get some egg on their face if this film is a flop and no second movie gets the go ahead.

There are so many iconic songs they purposely left off this first film 😬

according to Lionsgate's own narrative, they wanted to make sure that the first movie was profitable before greenlighting the sequel. Now they already talking about confidently greenlighting one. Isn't it a bit premature? I know that the early access tickets in big US cities are doing well, but I don't think this movie is having as much resonance outside of fandom spaces as it should. I hope I am wrong. I don't expect Nolan/Marvel/Barbie style of promotion for Michael Jackson but dropping a couple of posters, a Spotify playlist and a few HBCU marching band videos isn't the promotion I am expecting from a movie many projected to touch the billion dollar. I thought Lionsgate/Universal were a little less sloppy than the MJ estate oh well

I wanna hit this Chuck guy with a broom over his head and ask him if he thinks that everybody thought „This Is It“ was such great release that the formula should be applied now again!

His answers are always worthy of a good
🧹🧹🧹 helping!

Maybe a future chuck answer is:
„Well, there are three fake songs on this new compilation of unreleased material, because it’s actually similar to our 2010 album project of unreleased material.“ 💀👻👾

and one last thing I'll say then I'll stop caring about this movie and all its ramifications for good. and at this point, as a fan, why should i care about the success of this movie? its profit isn't going for new projects/deals/releases/concert films or whatever, is going to buy John Branca's next lamborghini. at this point maybe if it flops the silver lining is that it will send a message to the lizard who currently sits on Michael's wealth that he can't piggybank off the man's name forever.

Have you guys seen the popcorn bucket? Apart from the soundtrack this is all so exciting.. so glad Michael is back on the world stage where he belongs.. just wish it was the man himself but I hope he is proud of Jaafar + team wherever he is up there watching over it all!

Guys, when the MTV special thing about the biopic was announced MJ fans came out on twitter and comment sections with a full scale war against MTV saying they have not forgotten MTV turned its back on MJ and cancelled him etc (Removed the name of his award) etc after Leaving Neverland.

Why on earth would MJ fans choose to put the focus from positive PR thing via MTV about the biopic to the whole comment section being filled with comments that reminds of the allegations? Its literally insanity! Some people might not even be aware of the allegations and start looking it up. On top of that nobody making decisions on MTV are going be affected by MJ fans commenting on social media anyways.

There is a time and place to defend MJ - this was not it at all! We have to be smart and people or companies that are coming back onto the MJ bandwagon should be left alone and not hounded by MJ fans!

This reminds me of how MJ fans are trying to get back at the Estate for the fake tracks telling people to boycott Michael Jackson products & shows to get revenge against the Estate - while its hurting the Michael Jackson brand overall! Can we just for once try and enjoy the ride instead of constantly seeking to avenge the past?

Sorry for the rant, but I just think its so frustrating! And yes, this was made in the biopic thread as the MTV thing was related to it :)

just a companion, not a score, not a soundtrack, and you can definitely look forward to the next few announcements.

Here's one: Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible are being reissued on standard black Vinyl soon

I assume you're just making assumptions seeing as the estate have confirmed there is no more announcements to come regarding a proper soundtrack or anything of the sort.
