Diana Ross reportedly spent part of the morning after the deluge on the phone. Rumors flowed like rain. One was that she was asking Michael Jackson to join her in Central Park that night. But Jackson, 24, was a continent away in his home near Los Angeles. Rumors notwithstanding, he was still there when his mentor took the stage in the evening.

This above piece from the blog refreshes my memory. I went to that Central Park concert (well, half way...it's a long story I've posted about on this board before) and I remember there were rumors that Michael would make a surprise appearance. Darn, it never happened.
