I stumbled across the video again of Michael singing heal the world in the Bahamas. I was wondering anyone on here knows of any details about that performance, like how much of the song did he sing and if there's any better footage of it around. I really love heal the world and it would be amazing to watch him sing the full song with live vocals.

It seems that there is only report footage of this performance. It's a damn shame that footage of the full performance may not exist (if it does not) as this is probably the only time Michael sings this song live. As far as singing the song, I think he sung the whole song live. But that might not be true as I have seen a picture where he points his microphpone to one of the kids to sing, it could very well just be the encore of the song though. I'm not exactly sure, but this is one of those secret unprecendented performances that usually never air anywhere.

Here's that photo I mentioned:

The second tape of rehearsal footage from DWT has him singing the full song live and he actually puts effort into it. It's pretty awesome that footage exists along with the rest of the tape that includes Man in the Mirror, Bad and Black or White fully live with actually decent and sometimes amazing vocals.

Bad: 1:03
Black Or White: 9:26
Heal The World: 14:17
Man In The Mirror: 23:36

This is one of the performances I want the most in full… unfortunately I do not think the performance exists in full.

This and rehearsals for One Night Only - where I also assume he sings live.
OR HIStory rehearsals if he sings live.

That Bahamas event took place on December 11th (1998).

MJ was one of the special guests at the grand opening of the Royal Towers (Atlantis Hotel & Casino).

At one point, MJ was given a handheld microphone & was asked to start singing the ‘Heal The World’ song.

He started singing live, but not really with zeal because he was unprepared & also unsure about the correct lyrics of the song.

It was a short impromptu live performance of that song. He did not sing the entire song live, but some parts of it.

As far as I know, there is no better footage of it around.

News footage only right? Probably the one who taped it have it, but I doubt there is a chance that it will be released. Probably got lost somewhere.

Is that Di Caprio?

Yes, Leonardo DiCaprio was also there.

But, the Bahamas footage was not lost somewhere.

The whole glamorous Bahamas event (including MJ’s ‘Heal The World’ short live performance) exists.

It is safely kept due to film rights, so it cannot freely circulate (apart from those few news snippets).

And oh boy does he sound beautiful!

Clearly he felt obligated to sing despite his protests. Very kind.

Agree, he sounds nervous but great at the same time. Would love to see in full!

I always think his live vocal performances have that little bit more colour and soul to them. For me, they really bring the original songs to life.

Yes! I was about to comment that he sounds good here. One of the dyas that he is in good condition to sing despite the impromptu performance. :)

He sounds great, but I don't like how he was put on the spot like that.

It's a shame that Michael never sang Heal The World live, so I'm thankful for this Bahamas video and also the Dangerous Tour rehearsals, because he sounds amazing. It's just a shame that Michael lost faith in his ability as a live vocalist in the 90s.

OMG! No, I just can't... his live vocals in 1998. So amazing! Hate it when people tell me about Jackson's demise after Dangerous, the guy was still amazing even in 1998 and even 2009

Yes that's the beauty of live performances. Even if the artist does a great rendition of the song, the live performance adds something that is NOT on the single/album. With live shows the perfection comes from those imperfect moments where the vocals don't quite match the recorded version. A point I feel MJ missed completely in his latter years.

Oh so much!

It pains me that for the majority of Michael's work after Thriller there are no known live performances.
