I just listened to the latest episode of the MJcast. A 'roundtable' about the teaser for Michael. I've unfollowed the podcast after that. For me, being a fan of Michael is all about the joy I find in his music and performances. I enjoy the things he made, even decades later I am still mesmerized by many things he did. I went to a Brad Sundberg session recently, and man, I enjoyed hearing him talk about working with Michael, and learning new details about the recording sessions. That was great. I am looking forward to the biopic as well. I know the movie will be fictionalized, and not everything will be factually correct, but hey, this is not a documentary. It's a movie that will draw in millions of people who will enjoy the music of Michael again, and that's great. I don't care he is wearing the wrong T-shirt or whatever ... as long as people are rediscovering his music and art! And it seems like the teaser is already doing that ... it's setting records! Ain't that great news?

No one has to agree with me, but I am just curious what you think. I really got fed up with the constant negative approach by the MJcast. These people drown all positive anticipation in endless complaints. This Charles Thomson character, who appears to think he can only portray himself as a serious journalist by being overly cynical and cultivating a vocal fry, even managed to say the teaser didn't reveal anything of the story of the biopic. Whereas I think the story of part one is pretty clear from the first sentence of the teaser: the voice telling Michael "I know you have been waiting a long time for this, the tracks are ready, the songs are made". It's all about Michaels journey to get his own music and ideas out. For years, especially during the Motown years, he wasn't able to create his own stuff ... that was his struggle. It changed when he started working on Off The Wall and Thriller, culminating in Bad (the album he wrote the most on) and the Bad Tour (his first solo world tour). How is that not a story? The teaser literally says what the story is.

I am a bit fed up by it, I am sorry for ventilating that frustration here. Hope to hear some encouraging words from you!

I value The MJ Cast for the work they put in to give MJ’s collaborators a platform to share their experiences and memories, but I personally don’t care for the podcast itself. I don’t find them to be good interviewers and anything outside of the actual collaborators speaking doesn’t interest me.

I think that group is predisposed to hating anything the estate does. I fully understand the skepticism towards the biopic and don’t think blind praise is productive, but criticizing a teaser trailer for not revealing much about the plot is a textbook example of “I’m gonna complain about anything and everything because f**k Branca!”

Ultimately I can’t hate them too much because, again, they’re a net positive for the community. But I wouldn’t call myself a fan.

I like the interviews with people who worked with Michael as well. These episodes are great. But when they're not interviewing someone ... they bring such a cynical vibe.

I agree, but I definitely think that the person being interviewed makes it worth listening to. The questions they ask are usually very surface level.

A first teaser almost never gives any hint about story or plot points.
It’s a first introduction to the tone.
The premise of the story is mostly given in the final trailer.
Criticizing that shows only that CT knows little about movie trailers.

I fully understand the sentiment about the overly negative and pretentious attitude of CT.. But like already stated above, overall the MJCast is a net positive & important to have.

Yeah, like you said, I appreciate everything positive they do and have done for the community, but I find it hard to listen to them talk about stuff unless there's a guest on. I'm not the biggest fan of the estate at all but it does get a bit much.
