Michael - The Great Album Debate

I just don't think it is possible for Michael to sound that bad and that out of tune. Even in the Oprah interview or in Living With MJ when Michael randomly sang it was perfect. It is hard to believe Michael would sing out of tune, especially if it was being recorded.
How do we know that these songs were not just for fun and he never took it serious ?

Are you trying to compare the sales to Thriller or something it just released
No one here is delusional enough to compare a posthumous album to the best selling album of all time. KingMikeJ compared it to albums released last year, such as Take That's Progress. Michael was not a success when compared to Michael Jackson's albums. However, if you look at it from another perspective, it did manage to be one of Sony's best selling album in Sony's FY 2011. But still, the album faded away from spotlight fast. The music videos on YT fail to grab any substantial attention. Even when compared to other albums released thesedays, the album can hardly considered a success.

Last time I checked Latoya Jackson said Invincible sold 17 Million from 01 - 11

And we were comparing Invincible sales from its first year to Michael's sales.

We are not talking about sales spread over 10 years nor about what Latoya said.

Did yu read what Jesta said? In the fisrt year of Invincible.

@ Jesta, However I think it was 7 million, not 13 million Jesta.
And one more thing "Michael" was not promoted well either and it's a posthumous album you can't expect the sales to equal those now for Invincible MJ did 2 concerts in NYC to promote it

That is my point. I don't think it is possible for Michael to sing out of tune unless he is trying to (which would be very strange and unlikely in my opinion). Michael randomly singing Smile in LWMJ was for fun and not serious at all, and it was just as beautiful as it was on the record.

There was not a single commercial during MSG concert to promote invincible on TV. Invincible's promotion was extremely weak, but that does not surprise me from SONY.

The only song that was sung during MSG concert was You rock my world and it was limited to the American audience.

Okay but look at it then
Invincible sales first year 7 million units
"Michael" sales first year 2-5 million units

I can't listen to them right now but from what I remember, Fall In Love is an out of tune mess that doesn't sound anything like Michael. Ready To Win... I don't know where to start with this one. It reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-7taGcm8lg - An impersonator singing over the Keep The Faith instrumental with new lyrics (in this case, to create a tribute song). Are we supposed to believe Michael played the On The Line instrumental and started singing new lyrics to create a new song? I can't remember the rest of them right now I'll post my opinion of them later.

Do you think it is Michael's voice? If so, do you find anything strange about it?

KingMikeJ - you said before those leaks a few weeks ago that you thought Burn2Nite wasn't Mj but the others were. Where do you stand on that now? Not going to debate with you just curious, :)

Can I point out that Michael is selling for £2 on Amazon right now and it isn't even a year old. Compare it to any other Michael Jackson album or even any album that came out around the same time as Michael such as Take That's progress or Rihanna's Loud. The Michael album was not a success.

A couple of months ago I posted a link to an ebay seller who was selling off 75 returned copies from an HMV shop. Says it all.

Thanks for the clarification, Bumper! But the point still stands, FAR better than MICHAEL.

Here another example when MJ sings, he doesn't sing out of tune despite the fact that he sings outdoor:

The point is that usually artists sell more when they die, cuz it is unfortunately the best promotion they can get and on which SONY probably counted.

But no, the Cascio songs were IMO so damaging that they just wasted the first posthumous release.

What's the point with invincible selling 17 million units in ten years? There is no connection nor correlation with the album Michael.
I'm trying to say "Michael" could have sold anywhere from 2 - 5 million units in 1 year on year 10 what do you think the sales will be ?
Please don't say 5.1 million

So wait, on camera he sounded the same, but he sounds out of tune and lacks his accent on much more sophisticated recording devices? OK...

Let's just blow this all out of the water:

*Melodyne is not an excuse - used in I Like The Way and didn't change his voice.
*Poor quality isn't an excuse - Hollywood was recorded as a one-take song in a hotel with non-optimal equipment. I Like The Way's phone message sounded just like the song, even though it's a voicemail.
*Not taking it seriously isn't an excuse - Oprah interview, Living with MJ shows he sings completely in tune during impromptu moments.

Any other excuses? We've heard 'em all.

I don't know how many it will sell in ten years, but I know how many it sold in one year = a few copies when compared to all other MJ's releases.
