In 2019, several radio stations made the decision to remove MJ music from the radio. Have songs been added back? Can you let me know if you live in a country where the music was removed and it has been added back?

In Belgium he is played on the radio (his music was never banned to begin with) but officially the radio dj’s (of the biggest government funded stations) have the obligation to indicate to listeners something about the controversial nature that Michael was part of.
So they say something like this was billie jean which is a great song despite his wrongdoings. There were some phone calls of distraught listeners when MJ was played as well, in general his airplay dropped. Commercial radio stations don’t care and they still play him with pride.

I have absolutely no idea what difference this makes but this is how it goes here, kind of a buzzkill. Anyway Belgium is swinging out of bounds in this entire woke culture. They make one controversial decision after the other. They’re now banning tv shows left right and center that have scenes in it that don’t fit our current times. For example a scene depicting a gay or black person in a stereotypical way is now deemed offensive.
Apparently it is a group of 20 people deciding what is right for us to watch and what isn’t. I love it how we criticize everything russia or china does but we do exactly the same regarding content on tv. This borders on an early form of dictatorship to me.

PS to the young(er) people here I am very easygoing in nature, I’m not this whiny old fart. I say this before I get attacked for not agreeing with current times.
Based on how I hear radio programmers or tv people talk my take is that MJ is deemed guilty where I live and nobody questions it or dares to question it.

Thank you for your response. I get the sense that this is the case in some EU countries and I hope the estate & Sony takes steps to show them facts after the case appeals are sustained

I was just thinking about this today. There was a fuss a few years back when it appeared that (UK) BBC Radio 2 was no longer playing Michael's music. They always denied that they had banned his music but he had definitely dropped off the playlists. The BBC response was that music was chosen if it was relevant to the audience for that station. The demographic for R2 is people of Michael's own age. The people who grew up with his music. He could hardly be more relevant to the R2 audience. It was nonsense on a stick.

I was scooting around on the R2 website today and discovered that back in May 2022 Trevor Nelson played TWYMMF on his late night (10pm) Essential 7 slot. So it looks as if Michael is back on. Trevor Nelson specialises in soul / r&b and is always in late night slots.

I don't know if Michael is getting any daytime airplay. I'm going to start trying to pay attention to see what they do in the run up to T40. I can't listen to very much bc R2 bores the pants off me but I wanna try to find out if the situation has changed.
