Hi folks,
Don't worry I have gone completely mad
but as anyone else heard the recycled 'OHHHH' in Michaels You Rock My World video?
I haven't just relised to be honest was meaning to making a thread about this before.
It seems very similar to the 'OHHHH's that were in Ghost short film.
It might just be me but I thought i'd mention it :)

Cool, I never noticed that before. It defiantly sounds like MJ has been recycling the OHHH's from Ghosts lol.
 
That makes sooo much sense! It goes along with my theory about YRMW...and u found another clever addition to it. (Well it's not really my theory ...it's actually what MJ was going for when he made YRMW lol). Heres the post i made a while ago about YRMW and its analysis. I found a "directors cut" version of YRMW on utube, where the extra dialogue made EVERYTHING make sense :lol: And MJ is very clever, this is a very underrated video. (the video got removed from Youtube due to copywrite issues):

Ok I'm suffering from a serious disorder. It's called MRS. I dunno if you guys have heard of it but i got it bad. It's Michaelmania Resurgance Syndrom. It's where you've been on hiatus as far as MJ goes for a LONG time and then you go on Youtube and see all those videos you used to love but haven't seen in a LONG time. So I apologize for this NEXT topic about ANOTHER video (last one was Black or White)...and now it's YOU ROCK MY WORLD.

Ok I've seen this vid a thousand times. But now I'm looking at it again, and it's like I'm watching it for the first time. Cuz some stuff that Chris and Mike be sayin', I don't even REMEMBER. I'm like "wait a sec, is this a rare version???" LOL But it's hilarious. And at first i didn't get the POINT of most of that stuff in the video, and wasn't quite sure about the plot either, but i had a "DUUUUURRRRR" moment just now.

At the beginning, I sure don't remember MJ being so (i've used this word 2 many times tonight on this board but i'll say it again) "giddy" about the girl...but its sooo cute! And noticing those lines makes me get the point of the WHOLE video. A lot of peeps said it was same ol' same ol' and I thought so too, but me being the true "Invincible era" defender that I am, I remember MJ saying something like it was like that because it was a marking of that being the last of 'that type' of video he will ever do. But now i REALLY see it, Michael is straight up parodying himself in the video. I mean in this beginning lines (that I didn't notice)...every little thing is a remark on either the media crap or his carreer. Haha maybe I'm reading too much into stuff (I usually do since i'm in school now and thats pretty much ALL I do as an English major)...but the line where Chris is like "see thats why i don't eat with black people, cuz when the bill comes they start trippin"...very funny line. But it could also be a remark to haters, obviously saying "YES I'M BLACK" for the freakin last time :lol:

Then when the girl comes...the series of lines are just too well scripted. Puns on both Mike and Chris' parts...

Whaa? maybe there is different versions :blink:

Ok just checked the videos again and the first one i saw DID have all these extra lines. Where MJ and Chris come out and MJ says "That girl is MINE! She is MINE!" very enthusiastically...but in another version he said "That's the pretty girl I've seen all day". In the other version I watched Chris said "hey girl, u need a ride???" LMAO

HUH! Well...

...anyways...

So in the "new??" version i watched, they're in the chinese place and the lines go something like:
Chris: "MM! PRETTY young thang!"
MJ: (getting up) Ooooo that's MINE that girl is Miiiiinne!
Chris: No she ain't man
MJ: Chris, no u sit down...(lol)

So they're out there and Chris says, "Heaarrtbreak hotel,"
MJ:Ohhh my god...she looks so...Chris that's MINE!
Chris: I can't take no more!
MJ: HEY! (TYWMMF-ish)
Chris: You need a ride??

So yeah anyways, as u can see...BACK TO BACK references of MJ's old stuff. Not by coincidence. And so they go to the joint...and in this it's clearly obvious this girl is alligned with the 'gansters'....see, I didn't get that the MILLION times I watched it (i'm so slow lol). Cuz I always asked "geez y that girl look so serious???" ...well it all makes sense now. :lol: She likes MJ but she's with those other guys and THAT'S why peeps are fightin and ish :lol:. But ANYWAYS...

In the joint of course Chris says the whole "she's bad, she's dangerous, shamon!" stuff. THEN this other chick comes up to Chris once MJ leaves (Chris: "Girl u lost?") and keeps Chris "occupied" for the time being, the chick is one of the gang peeps.

So basically the rest of the video, such as the themes and REALLY sutle details like the extra enhanced sound effects during the dance sequence (remember the bad video??), or the spin before going up the stairs (billie Jean), RANDOM breaking of glass (Black or white, well in that vid it wasn't random but in YRMW it is lol), the random girl in the basement doing the signature MJ moves reminds me a lot of artists today that chase after his style, and the whole Bad/Beat It-esque fight scene/confrontation. The 'orchestra' of sounds from whatever's around...reminds me of Ghosts. I mean there's tons.

So, at first what I thought was an ok video by MJ's standards...actually became a really CLEVER and brilliant one. THAT was my point in all of this :lol:

Meh maybe i'm crazy but this isn't the version i saw when it premiered. lol But I like this version, it makes everything a bit more obvious lol Especially the throw back references.

So basically it makes sense that he'd use clips from Ghosts, cuz the whole video is a collage of MJ's videos. Didn't notice that one.
 
This makes no sense. MJ is incapable of opening his mouth and making a "Ohhh" sound that he has to redubbed old vocals?
 
^^ well if the whole video is a collage of his old videos, with (lemme reiterate) VERY SUBTLE nods to his old videos....then it makes sense. Cuz u can even hear the echo that was in the Ghosts video.

I remember back when it first came out the fans thought up of over 50 or 60 references in the video.

Seriously, you people have to much time on your hands or not enough MJ material to keep you busy. All the Chris Tucker jokes are just that, jokes. Theres nothing mysterious about that. Everything that was mentioned like orchestra or MJ spinning or glass breaking. THATS MICHAEL JACKSON'S STYLE! He's used it multiple times in different short films. Doesnt mean he's poking fun at himself. MJ has used glass in Smooth Criminal, BoW, Scream, Stranger In Moscow. MJ has used orchestra in Moonwalker, TWYMMF live. And MJ spins in just about all of his dance tracks and short films. Chris saying ""see thats why i don't eat with black people, cuz when the bill comes they start trippin" is just joke. Nothing more. It was just something funny. There doesnt have to be a meaning behind everything and I dont see how there was. Look, I didn't just make that list up. That list was compiled by FANS when the video came out AFTER MJ said himself that the video was a "summary" of his works to mark the 'end' of that kind of video making for him.

And again, as stated before, the directors cut that got yanked from youtube makes that EXTRA clear. And Chris' references is not the only thing. How about the 'gangster' theme? The sound effects? Each of which are exclusive to specific videos (Ghosts drumming sequence--thats what i meant by 'orchestra'. The "STOMP"-esque drumming, grunts and stuff of Bad video, etc). The "girl chase" of TWYMMF, the silhouetted kiss/hug...the "recycled" routine from the Dangerous sequence (flipping the guy over). The "spin" and the way it was SHOT, the angle it was SHOT, the way it was DONE was EXACTLY and exclusively like the Billie Jean video. There are just toooo many for it to be just MJ doing his style. If it was just that, u would be coming up with that many for ANY MJ video. All of the above was deliberate. There are like TONS lol. From beginning to end lol MJ doesnt just "usually" have all that stuff wrapped up in one video.

No I'm not BORED...this wasn't even thought up NOW, this was thought up during the Invincible era in full force...people were not BORED lol. How many times i gotta say that? LOL

Ive seen the full version of YRMW. In fact I have in on VHS. Might go back and have a look. I know the video pretty well but I wanna see what I can find in terms references to past short films. The only thing that was obvious to me was the comments from Chris.

Ive never heard of this before though so I guess I should be more open minded. But its not uncommon for MJ to recycle routines etc.
 
no, its not :lol: I told u it got snatched off of youtube cuz peeps wasnt supposed to have it. It had all the cut out scenes and dialogue mentioned in post 3 and some. It is NOT available for public, period. The long version is NOT what I'm talking about.

And not i don't know where u can find it. Maybe in an old archive of the KOP Board? I mean we can recreate it here u want lol

And the 'end' means, the same old same old videos. He was looking to create something even MORE innovative than ur regular run of the mill short film. I think he just did that to push himself to push the envelope even more.

How about the other observations i've noted besides the CT stuff? When u first watched the video didn't u think, like many others that, "man, MJ is BITTING himself!" lol That EVERYTHING seemed recycled? Right down to the storyline, right down to the dialogue? You didn't notice that? Does any other MJ video seem that way? Not really.

Ooo interesting topic. I know YRMW intertextually linked to his other short-films for example the Smooth criminal flip and fall down so Michael walks over him, the lines "guess we should just beat it!"-or something like that and the choreography similarities to the Bad shortfilm. I didn't pick up on the other similarities that other fans picked up. Thanks for sharing. I'd also be interested to see the full version. I've seen the version on the Number Ones DVD and the video used on music channels with the credits at the end but they always seem to cut out the bits at the start before Michael and Chris get to the club, so if anyone has it or has found it could you please share the link.

I couldnt find the topic @ KOP board unfortuantly. Wish I could see a list to know what you're talking about. Plus what did you mean this is the last time MJ will film a short film like this again?

The video "is no longer available" so I'm still searching for it.
Hopefully someone will have downloaded or will find those parts of YRMW which we have been forbidden from seeing. Everyone keep your eyes peeled at all times lol

Hi, nah i aint got too much time on my hands in fact I aint even had time to post a reply to this thread for two days, i'm a full time University student studying two degrees, working part time at Debenhams and in between I have to find time to read acedemic books for universty and essays plus try and find some free time for myself and doing that in a week isnt easy to be honest with you, but I suppose people don't need to know what I get up to, mind you I suppose they do cuz otherwise I might get accused of being bored and got nothing to do... anyways back subject...

In the thread intro I said that I've been meaning to bring this up before now but again i've never had time. It's undoubtly a 'Ohh' from Ghost, gotta be! lol
But I can see where J5Master is coming from about the connections, but don't really agree when it comes to the statement about Black people not paying for their bills, I personally thought that was just a joke to go with the video to be honest, don't feel any connection there.

Well i wrote it down in one of my old journals but they're alll the way back home. Ur best bet is seeing if KOP Board have any archives from 2001
