There was an interesting snippet about Michael's art in this press release about the LA City Gala 2016 following the Grammys:

-----------------------------------------------------------
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 18, 2016

City Gala 2016 featured Sean “Diddy” Combs as host for its fundraiser following The 58th GRAMMYs® on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles. Sir Richard Branson (founder, Virgin Group) was the keynote speaker in a moderated discussion by Jane Seymour. Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and American businessman and philanthropist John Paul DeJoria (co-founder, Paul Mitchell, The Patron Spirits Company) were honored at the event, with Jeff Timmons, of the Grammy-nominated pop group 98 Degrees, as the emcee for the night. Live performances included DJ Paul Oakenfold, Robert “Kool” Bell of Kool & the Gang, Chanel West Coast, The Stafford Brothers and DJ Sarah Robertson. Event proceeds benefit Community Inspiring Today’s Youth (CITY), a non-profit organization that supports and mentors underserved teens and young adults in developing their own start-up businesses in Los Angeles. .................................................

........................The City Gala 2016 benefits CITY and its non-profit programs for LA youth, as well From the Heart Productions, Fire Life Foundation, The Scheer Foundation and Supporting Our Servicemen (SOS).

The event also featured the first public exhibit endorsed by the Michael Jackson Estate of art painted by Michael Jackson. Four pieces from the collection, which is appraised at $480 million, and now owned by Michael Jackson’s friend and mentor, artist Brett Livingstone Strong, were on display.

This is another deceitful tactic by BLS. why would the estate of MJ endorse something it does not own?
if BLS is the legitimate sole owner as he claims, surely he does not need the endorsement of the MJ estate. the reason he is doing this of course, is to plant in the mind of the public the idea that he's the full owner of the artworks while this is obviously being disputed.

I'm not sure that saying this event is the 'first public exhibit (of this art) to be endorsed by the Estate' is a way of 'planting the idea that BLS is the full owner'. As you say, if he was the full owner, he would not need the endorsement of the Estate.

:wild: Oh, this is quite heart warming information. I'm surprised and happy to read this.
Thank you, for sharing.

How do we even know if it was really endorsed by MJ Estate? This is not something coming from the Estate, it's a random press release. We have seen a lot of people who claimed to be official and/or approved by MJ Estate. Also what's happening with the value of the art? Didn't BLS claimed it was appraised at $900 Million?

We've also seen prints of Michael's art being given to the LA Childrens' hospital, which was presumably endorsed in some way by the Estate? The LA City Gala seems to have been entirely in aid of charity, and I don't understand why the Estate would necessarily be against displaying some of Michael's art for charitable purposes. The art is otherwise spending its time in a warehouse where no-one can appreciate or enjoy it.

Clearly the ownership of the art is in dispute, which may take years to resolve. Is it better that no-one sees the art during this time?

^^

Totally irrelevant answer to what I wrote. I asked how do even know this was even approved by Estate and it wasn't just a baseless claim or a mistake. You replied by making another assumption.

That LA Children's hospital event was also fishy. Forget all the who owns what, who approved it or not aspect, he donated them prints. Basically posters. In my opinion that was something I wouldn't really call a valuable donation as you can do as many prints/ posters as you want. So I think that was more about publicity for BLS.

This latest event also interesting because there is no mention of MJ's art in their website. It is just mentioned at a random pr release. I find that odd. Yes it's a charity event but at playboy mansion, with poker and invitation only need to pay rich people/celebrities kinda of event. In my opinion it doesn't fit with how MJ Estate wants to position MJ but feel free to disagree.

Finally there isn't any lawsuit about the art specifically. It was mentioned at Tohme lawsuit and if they succeed in that they can perhaps pursue the art.

As mentioned before on this thread, I get how some people want this art and couldn't care less about the ownership issues or any other legalities. Personally for me how BLS became the "owner" of this art has left a bad taste in my mouth. And nothing will change that. Estate may lose whatever dispute they have, Estate might choose to work with BLS and so on. None of that would make me change how I feel about Tohme "gifting" MJ's art.

^ Since the Estate does not discuss its legal and business issues with fans, I fail to see how it is possible to have much discussion about Michael's art (or indeed about many of the topics that are discussed on this Board) without making assumptions.

I'm also well aware of the Tohme legal case and its relationship to the question of ownership of Michael's art.

I hope that Michael's art will eventually come under ownership of the Estate. I can't assume that it will. I'm glad that BLS will at least try to exhibit the art in the meantime. If the exhibits are posters / prints then that is even better, as it means that the originals will hopefully be kept safely somewhere.

Edit: as to:

Well yes, (thank you for your very kind permission) I do 'feel free' to disagree with that assumption.
I don't think that the Estate would have located the only long-term permanent MJ tribute show (Cirque MJ One) in the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas, if they had any qualms about associating MJ with poker and rich celebrities. A quick look at the Mandalay Bay website indicates that this resort has 1700 slot machines, plus blackjack, poker, other table games, casinos, casino hosts and an environment not exactly dissimilar to the LA City Gala 2016 event at the Playboy Mansion (which I understand Michael visited in his younger days.)

It doesn't have to come under the ownership of Estate. This was an alliance - meaning 50-50 ownership. I would be happy with that. I'm not denying BLS's share in this. I'm just not happy that MJ's share is given away. And for me it's not an issue of Estate approval/endorsement. That doesn't make me forget the questionable "gifting" of the art. That's all.

Ohhhhh I really do hope that we could get an English version of that book. I would adore having something with his amazing artwork in it. He was an incredible artist. There really wasn't anything that he couldn't do ^.^
