I'd go with OTW every time. More variety, more soul, more energy.

Definitely OTW. Most underrated songs on the album are imo Get on the Floor & It's the Falling in Love.

Quality-wise, Invincible is only comparable, if at all, to Dangerous and History.

As an artist, MJ was best when he was young and hungry.

The age doesn't matter. Michael's recorded fantastic stuff that didn't make Dangerous, HIStory or Invincible. All three of these albums suffer from an unbiased producer.

Especially Dangerous & Invincible were overexposed to Teddy tracks or respectively Jerkins songs. Those sessions would have hugely benefited from someone like Q - just supervising and having the final call for song selection & sequencing.

Off the Wall is the album I play when I really want some joy. It's very enjoyable and it's so great that it finishes too quickly.
I love Invincible but sometimes it's veeeeery long.

That's not an easy question, because MJ recorded each of these albums with completely different experiences. With Off the Wall, he was hungry, as has already been said. With Invincible, he felt he'd seen enough and was fed up with the media attention. OTW was more of a passion project, while Invincible was more of a job. But you can't really know for sure. I think Unbreakable is also a song that really expresses what was going on inside him.

Off the Wall is overrated to the point where I roll my eyes whenever I see it mentioned. It’s a good album, but it does not represent MJ at his best nor is it an album where I hear absolute brilliance. It is the better of the two albums in terms of consistency, but I haven’t listened to it in years. It’s a great disco album. No more, no less.

Invincible is not without its flaws, but there are moments on that album that nobody but MJ could’ve pulled off. It has variety, it has mostly great production, and it swings for the fences (even if it doesn’t quite make it there). I’ll die on the hill that it’s the more interesting, diverse listening experience.

Off the wall was undoubtedly the better album, but I love invincible as well. OTW just has better quality songs.

Off The Wall easily. It is a great album that is a very enjoyable listen from start to finish.

Invincible is a solid album, too, but too long to listen to in one sitting, and it doesn't quite reach the heights that Off The Wall reached.

MJ clearly got lazier after he entered his 30s.

None of it was as good as the stuff he made with Quincy.
100% agree with you, imo he have lost his touch since Bad, Off the Wall is vastly superior to Invincible, there are no comparaison.

Bad wasn't as good as Off the Wall or Thriller, but I appreciate that MJ wrote most of the songs by himself. He definitely worked hard on the album even though there was a lot of filler. If he kept writing his own songs, he could've put out a great album again, but he relied too much on other producers and songwriters after Bad.

By Invincible, he was phoning it in. Even his voice was strained on a lot of songs.
