Yippppppee that's awesome news! Here's hoping Michael has toppled Britney from the top spot in the next update :)

Number 4 on Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs and it still didn't chart on Billboard Hot 100? Why?

It does seem a bit strange to me. As I don't follow this chart usually, is it normal for this to happen?

I presume that DJs are playing this song so much because the crowd are enjoying it, not because they have some personal need to play it. If that's the case, why aren't those people loving the song in clubs buying it??? Or perhaps they are buying it but the club scene is too small in the US for the sales it generates to impact the mainstream chart?? Sounds unlikely.

US radio never really picked up on this single and so maybe you need BOTH club and radio play to generate enough sales. I'm thinking out loud here, but now the song is doing well on the club charts, wouldn't US radio start to play it??? Doesn't the club chart success show there is an audience for this song???

Does anybody have access to airplay data for this song?

I'm not sure HT was released on iTunes in the US, except for the album version. Sony is really not doing any promotion for these singles, it's a shame. They could've at least premiered the video on some of those "Most watched" shows to generate buzz and sales. Even the hottest artists are doing this, because it's great promotion and it sends their singles in the top 10 or even at #1 on iTunes right away. Sony are not putting even the slightest effort......

Only - it's a little weird this good position doesn't affect the sales of the album Michael.

I don't understand if it's popular in the clubs then they should play it on the radio. Give it a chance.

Sony did not release the digital single (2 tracks) or digital EP (4 tracks) on iTunes in the US.

Ok, so now I understand.
The album version was issued to radio and is available on itunes to buy. BUT it's the remix that is getting lots of spins on the club circuit and I guess the most likely to generate sales from this point on, so why don't Sony now issue the club mix?? They could also reissue the video with the club mix - that would be quick and easy (and therefore CHEAP) for somebody to do.
Surely in this age of digital releases it is VERY cheap (or FREE) to add the club mix to itunes. With that in mind, I can't think of a single reason why Sony wouldn't want to capitalise on this club chart success. Sure, itunes must take a cut, but even if they only sold 100 copies they'd still make a profit wouldn't they??

^See if they were smart that's exactly what they should do -- release the remix on iTunes and re-issue the video with the remix (get it played on some of those popular shows). Everybody and their mama are releasing remixes lately (Britney, Rihanna etc.) to get some additional sales, so why is Sony sleeping on this remix and its success in the clubs? I understand that they are planning on releasing BTM as the official US single, but why not get some additional sales and buzz with this remix? Oh well.....

I agree. Personally, I think that Sony needs to reconsider their position on this. Why couldn't they release both singles worldwide? It would still have been great if they release the HT remix in the US as a b-side with the BTM single. They could get more money than what they spent back if the release was a success here also. I can't deny that I'm disappointed.

Number 2!! That is amazing! Hope for Number One next week.. I wish we could help somehow.. 2 bad that the song is not available on itunes in US. Maybe requesting the song on the radio can help..

Yes, it's an acknowledged chart, it's Billboard after all.

This is taken from their website:
"Dance/Club Play Songs: The week's most popular songs played in dance clubs, compiled from reports from a national sample of club DJs."

HT really is the 2nd most played song in US clubs!

That's great! :punk:
