Ozzy Osbourne was known for swearing but he didn’t…

… actually swear much in his songs, with Black Sabbath or as a solo singer. His songs dealt with dark topics but the words actually used in the lyrics - very little profanity. This is surprisingly in contrast with his mainstream TV Reality star, who swore a lot on The Osbournes TV Show.

Did anyone actually knew about this? Until listening to Ozzy’s catalogue, I had believed he swore like a sailor on his songs. He only swore in mainstream media, it seems.

It’s also like saying Prince, the singer known for raunchy songs, didn’t really swear a lot in his catalogue, instead using “everyday” words from the dictionary to describe risqué situations.

It wasn't all that common to use profanity in music until maybe gangsta rap and 2 Live Crew era sex rap. The songs wouldn't get played on the radio, and if they were, the words would be bleeped out. There were some exceptions like 1930s blues singer Lucille Bogan. Like before the 1970s, there was little, if any, cursing in movies.
