Prince Appreciation Thread - For Fans

"I'll be home for Christmas"

Youve done some damage.
Fuz surely has. My brain is a mere pulp even all these hours later.

I am up here at..... half p[ast midnight scrattin' around like a rat watching this dox all over again
No idea how you could do that. 9 minutes and I was destroyed, lol.

What r you doing to us @Fuzball and and ... and screen shots ....to be figured out.
I saw that. How do you do that? Rhetorical question but, still ... HOW do you do that?

(haven't had my porridge yet. See? My routine is blown to pieces!)

haha i can't cope this is not 1991 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111111
I can't cope with any of it.

My new name is '8m 51s'. I'm writing it on my face. :ROFLMAO:

I can't process this just now. It will have to wait.

All of this. ❤️

Non-stop. All the time. Everywhere.

You either love this guy or hate him. Well.. :ROFLMAO:
Couldn't disagree with Eric Clapton more. Loads of people are indifferent to Prince including myself. Not when it comes to this doc, clearly. I lost my freakin' mind over a mere 9 minutes of footage. :ROFLMAO: And there are some songs I really love. But I could list loads of things Prince does that leave me coldly indifferent. So that's nonsense on a stick. But when Prince is good, he is a flaming miracle.

Later today I'm going to type out a couple of paragraphs from the Sonic Boom book about when Warner's signed Prince. Y'know, as a little celebration of Fuz finding this doc. How did Fuz do that? How did you do those screen shots? How did you find 8m 51s on Pin?

Rhetorical questions.

<goes to lie down>

I'm sure Prince fans know this story well but it's new to me and I love it. Prince acing his 'audition' before signing to Warner's.

Excerpt from Sonic Boom: the impossible rise of Warner Bros. Records from Hendrix to Fleetwood Mac to Madonna to Prince by Peter Ames Carlin. P.215 - 216.

"Thyret, who had been listening to Warner's bands and their demos for years, could hear how special Nelson's three-song tape was, and quickly handed it off to Waronker. The A&R chief could hear the magic, too. The songs weren't just funky but also pop-friendly and cleanly produced. The instrumentation was just as striking ... Every other set of ears in the A&R offices heard it, too, so from that point, signing Nelson became the company's top priority. So, when Nelson and Husney demanded that Nelson be allowed to produce his own records, and that the company be required to release at least three of his albums regardless of how well their predecessors sold, Waronker took the offer to David Berman, who had already heard the intensity of the A&R team's excitement ... and accepted the terms with few questions.

The only holdup came from Waronker, who wanted to make sure the teenager was as capable of producing sessions in a professional studio as he was in the smaller setup he'd used to record his demo tape. He booked some time at a nearby studio, told Husney and Nelson what he wanted to see, and corralled a few other A&R executives to listen in. Russ Titelman consulted briefly on the drum sound, then joined the others in the control room to see what would happen next - which was that the leonine young musician laid down a perfect drum part in one take. Leaving his sticks on the floor, he picked up the bass, called for the tape to roll, and once it did, he locked in with his drum track to form a tight one-man rhythm section. When he got to the end, he picked up a guitar to play that part, but Waronker hit the Talk button in the control room and called him off. 'Okay, okay, I've seen enough,' he said. 'You're the producer.' The entire session had taken less than fifteen minutes."

Re-posting.

@wendijane - you knew this would happen, right?

This is why we do it zin .lol reposts are everything

Fuz surely has. My brain is a mere pulp even all these hours later.

The dox admittedly piqued-my interest again :ROFLMAO:so went searching for more! that'l be it lol

I actually had fun on Pin and was a tiny bit impressed when i realised he too, had been one of Herb Ritts models.......and then it came to me like a bolt out of the blue~the reason why some photography that had been posted on this thread was really making me scroll back.
See? My routine is blown to pieces!)
I can't cope with any of it.

Couldn't disagree with Eric Clapton more.
oh , yeah EC has a bad mouth in any case babe i only have 2 google it to see how wrong that one is.
Loads of people are indifferent
thats the word i knew so well
to Prince including myself. Not when it comes to this doc, clearly. I lost my freakin' mind over a mere 9 minutes of footage. :ROFLMAO:
These types of things only come around once in a blue moon though plus the dox was 'my ' time, the time line i seek , well, that i am starting with - so i especially was 'drawn' 2 Fuz's documentary . . ⛓️...for all of two mins. ✨:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:no no ,no !!! lol ive been obscenely 2 cold on this man for far too long lol So , im letting his artistry seep into my mind slowly...it's like electricity for the soul & His Tora Tora vision is youth elixir⛓️⚡✨ straight away for the mind -i cannot explain but i can now appreciate certain elements of why this man was on the telly so much.
And there are some songs I really love. But I could list loads of things Prince does that leave me coldly indifferent. So that's nonsense on a stick. But when Prince is good,
Yep - i get that u know. I have to really, really really, put my energy into this one because my attentiveness in what he is 'telling me', is not consistent with him. ...yet.
he is a flaming miracle.
I am actually listening to P's CD the' B Sides 'and i had to rewind 1 song because i was like , i .- That is kind of genius. The arrangement of the piano and maybe the melody. Quite infectious.
Later today I'm going to type out a couple of paragraphs from the Sonic Boom book about when Warner's signed Prince.
aw i appreciate when you do that 🤩
Y'know, as a little celebration of Fuz finding this doc. How did Fuz do that?
i want him to do more and impress us lol Fuz @Fuzball bestowe upon us ..................the P Power again lol
How did you do those screen shots?
Well U see. ..You press the power of Chrome and u add that to the Power of the Prince * click* ten fold - and it just happens LOL
How did you find 8m 51s on Pin?
very easily darling very easily lol i have a ton lol - i went 2 town and painted it red , well not red- maybe black ...a bit. it was late- i couldn;t stay out for too long. :ROFLMAO:
Rhetorical questions.
Which i love !
<goes to lie down>
:ROFLMAO:
Actually the 8m 51s did shock me when i did Screen shot it babe , It was 1 of the part i had in mind too. It is very cool i have to say. All the PP at the bottom. I just thought the credits were a fab touch to that photo. Also the Camden SS are some kind of wonderful . i love all that i was able to ss.

I'm sure Prince fans know this story well but it's new to me and I love it.
TY @zinniabooklover That is an exciting piece to absorb. it shows the pure dedication P had to his high voltage artistry.

Appreciated . TY
When he got to the end, he picked up a guitar to play that part,
Yes. It is what i have recently discovered He had a magnitude of energy..and could conduct it all into his endless artistry but i don't think P was as straight forward as that. And that's the part i like.
but Waronker hit the Talk button in the control room and called him off. 'Okay, okay, I've seen enough,' he said.
I can picture this scene in my minds eye.
'You're the producer.' The entire session had taken less than fifteen minutes."
That Waron guy had ears almighty (y)

How are we doing now babe ?:ROFLMAO:
Much better now. After yesterday's shenanigans I've calmed down a lot. I've been self-soothing by running Camila Cabello's voice in my head all day. I'm in Quiet Mode now.

:ROFLMAO:Did U have your porridge in the end ?
No, in the end I had soup for breakfast. Very soothing, lol. It's all about calming myself down today. :D

Naturally - fuz started it though i blame that bloody fuz lol
He did start it but I can't really blame him. I've been looking for that bloody thing for years and never found it. I don't know how he found it but I'm glad he did. It's a treasure.

I can't wait for the result lol I've still got mine to come -it's brewing- it;s manifesting within the dark depths of my soul
This is why I'm in Quiet Mode. This whole thing needs time and space and calmness to just evolve into ... who knows what?

oh , yeah EC has a bad mouth in any case babe
Tell me about it. Or, rather, don't. Not gonna get into that, don't wanna spoil my mood. But I know exactly what you're talking about.

i only have 2 google it to see how wrong that one is.
EC is a bar-steward all right.

Actually the 8m 51s
My new name! :D

I've watched 14 mins of the longer vid, now I'm on a mini-break. But I keep on revisiting the screenshots you did. So helpful. So amazing. It's like having a little exhibition. Apart from 8m 51s, which is my fave, this is probably the one I love the most. Directing his band. I love that.

Well. That is great 2 read there zin. I have just come back from that video you posted, which triggered me to actually listening to that whole album. I mean there is Eve in there.. Gwen .....We have Chuck D in there. The album is really tight, especially track 2 . Undisputed. I think.
No, in the end I had soup for breakfast. Very soothing, lol.
oh my god :ROFLMAO: i bet
It's all about calming myself down today. :D
You've got the best idea hun. i am 50/60 on that lol and This might change if freaky fuz drops another bomb on my soul LOL
He did start it but I can't really blame him.
Wait- he posted the papa video right ?.,to begin ? it was that track that sold me..to this ...this ...i don't know what is happening lol .and so one of you guys tagged me here to listen to Papa and it was from there which got me intrigued, leading me to buy that whole album from 1993 and enjoying it very much actually. ive dipped out n in of this danger thread for ...since 2008 , and early this year, and maybe a bit of the end months of last because i recall you posted some vital piano video , which are cool ..
I've been looking for that bloody thing for years and never found it. I don't know how he found it but I'm glad he did. It's a treasure.
Yes it is a glorious piece of footage and is 1 of my fave of this guy
This is why I'm in Quiet Mode.
For now babe For now lol
This whole thing needs time and space and calmness to just evolve into
I am standing at the precipice of no return here. I tried so hard for years to not jump into this persons pit
... who knows what?
Yeah c this is a dangerous territory now. Point of zero oh no! return now 34 years avoidance :ROFLMAO:- u know maybe even a bit more ...i hate how i am so proud of that fact lol
Tell me about it.
:cautious:it needs a smack from all mankind that one lol

Honestly you have got to keep this. it is perfect. I squealed when i read that today! Absolute , immediate luv luv luv
I've watched 14 mins of the longer vid, now I'm on a mini-break. But I keep on revisiting the screenshots you did.
If you want more of anything. Anything at all. I'll do my best 2 find that. Yes i have found the blasted concert full concert of this ...bloody 'blue ' album [Rave Un2 the joy fantastic ]so will be watching that next.
So helpful. So amazing. It's like having a little exhibition.
Anything at all. it is so easy to do and i really like doing it. !
Apart from 8m 51s, which is my fave, this is probably the one I love the most.
Camden ! yes !
Directing his band. I love that.
YES. See the heart bracelet he wears? ...well i am assuming it is ... That part of the dox is so cool gotta say. I like when this guy is in the moment of his artistry. he gets really involved and it is good to watch especially when he plays guitar in that dox
I also like that part yes .....yeah ..there is a SS i posted here last night where he is on the keyboard i think...but it is of the upper back of him, he has a pony tail but he has a huge ribbon in it.it's like this immaculate bow ............... 😌
he loved and cared about details to me ..it looks so cool

The full concert [which i am watching now] from the album - Rave Un2 the Joy fantastic from 1999/ 2000

Wait- he posted the papa video right ?.,to begin ? it was that track that sold me..to this ...this ...i don't know what is happening lol .and so one of you guys tagged me here to listen to Papa and it was from there which got me intrigued,
Oh, that's so interesting, that it was Papa that got you going. Although, tbf, you were in the thread back in the spring of this year, iirc, so it's been evolving, I would say. idk if Fuz posted anything for Papa, can't remember. I listened to it and posted a comment here but didn't post the song bc it's way too bleak. I love it. It's even more of a masterpiece than SOTT, imo, but I def wouldn't post it bc it's so full on. Iirc, Fuz popped up with a question. Maybe that's when he tagged you.

leading me to buy that whole album from 1993 and enjoying it very much actually. ive dipped out n in of this danger thread for
oh, there you go ...

...since 2008
goodness me! I hadn't even noticed the thread had been going that long. 😲

I jumped in last autumn after I came across the footage of Prince onstage with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood etc. Which is quite funny to me bc I don't rate him hugely as a guitarist. I mean, he's really, really good but I prefer him at the piano, maybe bc he tends to get very jazzy and bluesy at the piano. Anyway, that video popped up - I like Tom Petty and love Jeff Lynne so that's probably why - and it blew me away. Prince, I mean. His performance, his outfit, his little face (he looks so stoked to be there). The whole thing is pure gold.

, and early this year, and maybe a bit of the end months of last because i recall you posted some vital piano video , which are cool ..
I did find some lovely short piano clips (I love a short video, lol). Very jazzy, very bluesy. ❤️

I am standing at the precipice of no return here. I tried so hard for years to not jump into this persons pit
I'm the complete opposite. I was always open-minded about him and would pay attention but he never did enough to hold my attention. I quite liked Partyman back in the day but that was more about Candy Dulfer. Yes, we did try to see him at Camden Palace but that was more of an 'in the moment' thing. We'd already been at 2 gigs that night, he was late showing up, we buggered off, we were a tiny bit frustrated but we didn't really care. Although Camden Palace would be a great venue for a Prince gig. He must have liked it a lot, he played there quite a few times, iirc.

I also like that part yes .....yeah ..there is a SS i posted here last night where he is on the keyboard i think...but it is of the upper back of him, he has a pony tail but he has a huge ribbon in it.it's like this immaculate bow
I love the pony tail. It seems to be a 'rehearsal / sound check' thing. It looks great. Really, really pretty. I'm not mad keen on his outfits or his style but the pony tail rocks!

he loved and cared about details
He did and we like that.

..it looks so cool
❤️

Here's a lovely photo.

Act of God

3m 13s

See this is the thing. This is from the album 2010. And this is a really cool album to me it's the thirty-fifth studio album so it is fairly recent. 9 tracks on that i like them albeit say 3 didn't care for. But it was one album that I was really enjoying. And i was listening to the second CD from the....3 CD from Emancipation. 1996. That didn't go too well. I'm yet to listen to the rest of the 38 tracks....I might give it another go. i remember Curious Child . I like those lyrics. way he sing it. I know what i like with this man instantly and it's not too much.
P is very diverse & he's very intense.
Oh, that's so interesting, that it was Papa that got you going.
it has to be everything you see. then that was when he striked for me.
Although, tbf, you were in the thread back in the spring of this year, iirc, so it's been evolving, I would say.
:ROFLMAO:Yeah i was thinking i had been popping in before last year , I certainly liked the video you posted in the summertime or something like that. it's all piano which made me open this thread.
idk if Fuz posted anything for Papa, can't remember.
he posted the vid and i bought the CD the next day. I welcomed P into my mind on account of that album. He's not been in my ears yet thats to come lol
I listened to it and posted a comment here but didn't post the song bc it's way too bleak.
ill have a snout back
I love it.
me too zin. My very first P album. it is a harsh and vigorous experience. And the front and back of the cover rocks.
It's even more of a masterpiece than SOTT,
Don't like SOTT ...ah, i don't know . i am procrastinating with that album.
imo, but I def wouldn't post it bc it's so full on.
Alot of his early 90s art is so demanding i find. Although I think the NPG & D&P era/ years are youth in a bottle.
Iirc, Fuz popped up with a question. Maybe that's when he tagged you.
that bugger did yes he really did lol :ROFLMAO:
oh, there you go ...
:ninja:im here now but i will not immerse myself fully lol
goodness me! I hadn't even noticed the thread had been going that long. 😲
yep was here in full swing when i signed up - although alot of posts got deleted it was more than 30 odd pages
I jumped in last autumn after I came across the footage of Prince onstage with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood etc.
Yeah see he has got a sound for everyone who wants to listen , that is. So elements of him will appeal to many ears. It is cool that we are on this journey together zin actually
Which is quite funny to me bc I don't rate him hugely as a guitarist. I mean, he's really, really good but I prefer him at
I got to check him out more with that ...he does the violin too [i think] and the drums ...the bloke could play alot of instruments
the piano,
This babe yes This.
maybe bc he tends to get very jazzy and bluesy at the piano.
He gets lost in the music and i love that element of any artist 'of mine'.
Anyway, that video popped up - I like Tom Petty and love Jeff Lynne so that's probably why - and it blew me away. Prince, I mean. His performance, his outfit, his little face (he looks so stoked to be there). The whole thing is pure gold.
He looks so stoked to be at the concert i watched last night too. Yeah i get that I think he really was married to his ....creativity. Because he is the epitome of that word. He had lots of that , to me. even the unpronounceable 'Love-symbol' might have been too limiting for him..in his mind. i mean.
I did find some lovely short piano clips (I love a short video, lol). Very jazzy, very bluesy. ❤️
youll hate my offerings then lol its over an hour babe - i'll do better haha
I'm the complete opposite. I was always open-minded about him and would pay attention but he never did enough to hold my attention. I quite liked Partyman back in the day but that was more about Candy Dulfer.
Partyman  i checked that out couple days back- That's from that Batdance 89 thing. The video of PM didn't really hold my attention although the song sounded more listenable [2 me] than the Batdance 89 thing.
Yes, we did try to see him at Camden Palace but that was more of an 'in the moment' thing.
That is so cool , really loved to read that
We'd already been at 2 gigs that night, he was late showing up,
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
we buggered off,
This sounds like me at the WMA in 2006 and I tried to get to the Hemple but everything went tits up lol
we were a tiny bit frustrated but we didn't really care.
i get it aww mate i'm so sorry lol :ROFLMAO:
Although Camden Palace would be a great venue for a Prince gig. He must have liked it a lot, he played there quite a few times, iirc.
Dunno babe, but that piece of footage that he has in CP is really cool & quite unexpected to be honest. it was 1990 , and you expect these people to be in america far , far away - not up the bloody road :ROFLMAO:
I love the pony tail.
Very cool. Did you know his purple preference has a place in the pantone colour chart? I did not know that at all and was pleased to see it.
It seems to be a 'rehearsal / sound check' thing. It looks great. Really, really pretty.
Yeah. that is um another reason why i did like Thieves in the Temple back then but then stopped cold.
I'm not mad keen on his outfits or his style but the pony tail rocks!
He did the knitwear thing , and made that work , as well as the shiny show clothes.
He did and we like that.
That's true. I was quite impressed when i realised that tiny detail about his preference and his art work which he carried this preference immaculately throughout his career. I mean even in 2016 he was wearing these really cool pieces, he appreciated clothes and fashion , and he wore much of his stuff well i think. ..I think the album 2010 cover is so creative and it appealed to me more than say the purple rain clothes.
Girl if you had shown me that one this time last year id have said get that away now lol but it's a strong look ...i would point that at 1999? 2000?
I have to say that the video that you posted here last night - TGRES. That was impressive. He looked very young in 2000 and last night i posted a video of his full concert from that year. It was the very last body suit , blackish [i saw it this really deep plum ... I would put that bodysuit as Tyrian purple, ] with a sheen of this gold , and this say, Tyrian purple bandanna . he was looking good at that concert !

here is a decent photo. I am kind of between that deep and dangerous point now ...and i am sensing this gorgeous Italian blood in him with a deep love for Elvis, im gonna say that i see a lot of Presley reflected in his work/artistry style actually, i don't know if that's me, maybe i am projecting here. I probably am.

I think there are some more videos on this thread since i last posted so gonna check those out in a min.

Another cool book 2017 ...

Picturing Prince: An Intimate Portrait - Steve Parke

PICTURING PRINCE sees the late icon's former art director, STEVE PARKE, revealing stunning intimate photographs of the singer from his time working at Paisley Park. At least half of the images in the book are exclusively published here for the first time; most other images in the book are rare to the public eye.

Alongside these remarkable images are fifty engaging, poignant and often funny written vignettes by Parke, which reveal the very human man behind the reclusive superstar: from shooting hoops to renting out movie theatres at 4am; from midnight requests for camels to meaningful conversations that shed light on Prince as a man and artist.

STEVE PARKE started working with Prince in 1988, after a mutual friend showed Prince some of Steve's photorealistic paintings. He designed everything from album covers and merchandise to sets for Prince's tours and videos. Somewhere in all of this, he became Paisley Park's official art director. He began photographing Prince at the request of the star himself, and continued to do so for the next several years. The images in this book are the arresting result of this collaboration.

I'm getting it ! because i like the back page

The essential gift for lovers of Prince, Dickens and everyone in between!

In Nick Hornby's completely joyous and original new book two great figures share the stage. Charles Dickens and Prince. Two wildly different artists who caught fire and lit up the world in ways no others could. Where did their magic come from? How did they work so hard and produce so much? How did they manage or give in to the restlessness and intensity of their creativity? How did they use it, and did it kill them?

With wit, curiosity and deep admiration Nick Hornby traces their extraordinary lives - from their difficult beginnings to the women they fell for to their limitless energy for work, to their money and the movies - and brilliantly illuminates their very particular kind of genius.

'I love this. It's smart and funny and elegantly persuasive' Robert Douglas-Fairhurst, author of Becoming Dickens

Curious of this one.
