Prince Appreciation Thread - For Fans

I find party Prince a bit irritating and a bit boring, tbh. Don't like the sound, don't like the clothes, don't like his hair. But then he'll tie his hair back into a scruffy pony tail, sit down at the piano and do some sublime jazzy / bluesy thing and all is forgiven.
I never listened to that side of Prince, I think I don’t like his voice enough for such intimate or stripped performances but I wanna give it a shot If I know where to look.

I never listened to that side of Prince,
Funnily enough, I was just popping on to post this. Not sure if you will like it. Prince being Christian and gospell-y. It's a traditional spiritual and I prefer Aretha Franklin's beautiful version from 1972. That said, I do like this.

I think I don’t like his voice enough for such intimate or stripped performances but I wanna give it a shot If I know where to look.
I get it. I don't 100% love Prince's voice - as in, the sound of it - and I don't always like how he uses it. So I can relate to this.

Anyway, here's Prince in 1983 doing 'Mary, Don't You Weep'. He's changed the lyrics as far as I can tell.

When I said I love Prince at the piano being jazzy and bluesy, it was really this sort of thing I meant. No vocals, just him on piano, rehearsing with his band. When Prince is performing I'm not so keen. When he's rehearsing, I'm mesmerised.

I liked this refreshing speech.

This here, [would assume, a repost ] it is unfortunately a bit long, but if people can stick with it ,i found it to be - not insightful.. cause you don't get P's side of things. and personally, I certainly wouldn't have agreed to take the item from his property, even though it was meant to be thrown away because to me, that could have been a set up on trust. .... But it is a thought provoking account of this guy's time working for P.
Cool video ~ P being my boss , welp ~ that would worked perfectly for me. That would have been a perfect job for me because i wasn't a supporter in 1995, so would have not have had any urge or temptation. Just be there to do good honest work.
And would have absolutely kept out of his way , And obviously busy buying tickets for M's History concerts on lunchbreaks. Perfect! :ROFLMAO:

Here are some time stamps if anyone is interested in what this guy had to say. [Although it is 7 years old. So people will have seen it]

37:00 - 39:03- An actual person. Laughter, and Basketball.
45:06 - 47:29 - b briefed - "Avoid Prince at all costs."
48:34 - 50:43 -On the stairs, there.
51:06-51:37- Spike Lee
52:19- 53:48 - Glad to be a part of..
56:03 -57:08 One for the lace lovers
58:38 - 100:59 -Handwritten Notes ~Property of Prince.
1:14:31 -1:14:32 - Kind Words 2 his hero.

Really enjoyed this documentary. This is how i remember docs to be , when the star in question doesn't talk & it was all very separate to someone who is not in that game.i agree with what they say. I can see what they mean, and also the ending was great on this again , poignant i think , would be the word. Oh , and there is 'the' song again. [ 1 of the best , if not , arguably, the best piece of art P. ever made.]
Many thanx

Edit- This is a good re- watch. Some new scenes with P in Camden with Ron Wood 9:13 & 10 :36 Mica Paris is always going to be cool

and also 5:09 P. [with his fab ponytail bow] at the dressing room/chair. A nice extra take on the dox which we all liked previously. Thanks for it zin.

Not a great article, imo, but it has some interesting bits of info in it:

"The artist formerly known as Prince was an icon, a revolution, a symbol of being exactly who you want to be. His image was painted in 2018 on the back of the Electric Ballroom – across the loading doors where his gear would’ve been shipped in for his performances there. It’s a beautiful image by artist, Mr Cenz, which includes O(+>’s love symbol entwined in his hair. So part of him will always remain in Camden’s history and heart."

BET stuff. Interview and performance footage.

Adn this one I wasn't going to watch this but then i gave it a shot and the stripped down performance of Cream is astounding.
I like P on guitar. Very gifted at guitar . i have to say that.

@filmandmusic in your own time, perhaps give that BET video a go too. 6:47 - 14:25 ~if you are into acoustic guitar. I found it good.

I learnt.:
1]He had a difficult childhood,
2]The cloud guitar, possibly the coolest and most ‘flowey’ guitar ever made.
3]and he knew what he was doing.
4]Just a few months later, he set up two gigs at the Roundhouse as a part of his ‘Hit and Run’ tour. Fans were given 48 hour’s notice, but tickets had sold out within four minutes.
5]Tom Petty’s daughter is campaigning against the use of the drug [Unfortunately P. was taking painkillers laced with Fentanyl] and to share the dangerous effects it can have, since her father died of the same cause in 2017.
6]The artist formerly known as Prince was an icon, a revolution, a symbol of being exactly who you want to be.

So, It is a decent article i thought @zinniabooklover The picture is eye-catching. Seems great that P. had a big connection to Camden.

The information is OK. The writing is sloppy, imo. But I didn't hate it, that's why I posted it. It's really nice to see an article celebrating Prince's connection to Camden. Actually, there were quite a few online but this one seemed to be the best of the bunch. Having read all of them I'm confused as to how many times he played Camden Palace. I thought he'd played there several times but I might have got that wrong. Otoh, I didn't know he played at the Electric Ballroom. Or else I'd forgotten. I was quite pleased about that. EB was always one of my fave venues. Good rock / punk vibes there so a great place for Prince, I would say. I can't remember the capacity for the Electric Ballroom but, iirc, it was about 1,000 or perhaps 1, 500. Definitely no bigger.
