The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

He should just post a snippet at this point.

This, to me, is the holy grail of unreleased songs but it'll be disappointing if it doesn't live up to the hype. With it being an uptempo r&b track, with the lyrical content, I'm not sure where it would've fit on his albums outside of Victory
I guess 'Don't build your hopes to be let down' should be the slogan for this thread ;)

Assuming he still has the tape—is there anything stopping him from doing that, technically? We've seen instances of unheard MJ songs being leaked by people from MJ's team themselves (i.e. Brad Sundberg posting a video with a snippet of Family Thing playing in the background, Rodney Jerkins sharing snippets of writer's demos made for Michael, Michael Prince playing the intro of GYWOOM on the MJCast), even if he shares a very short snippet of MJ singing "Who shot Buffalo Bill?" I assume it's unlikely it'll get him into trouble with the Estate.
Firstly, Bill has gone on record saying that he never took any tapes home for the Bad sessions. Whatever works-in-progress he had, Brad Sundberg took those tapes from Hayvenhurst to Westlake instead for reference by the A-team... He maintains the demos were basically the same as the album cuts (at least from memory) but doesn't have the tapes to tell exact differences...

Quite likely for Make or Break he just was not fond of it when working on it.

At least for Dangerous he'd still have his tapes as he was a producer on that project. He kept the tapes in a locker so nobody could pinch them!

This led to the "shit that went down" at Larrabee... Competition between the different camps was high back then. Bottrell and his assistant found that Brad Sundberg set up a "bugging" device amongst the racks of DAT machines - allegedly at Michael's or Bruce Swedien's request... Who knows? Still, I could imagine how violating that would have felt. From Steve Knopper's book

Legally, no. As long as he doesn’t, say, upload a full song to Spotify/YouTube and start taking ad revenue, the estate couldn’t do anything.

If I were to guess, though, he wouldn’t do that out of respect to MJ. Which I understand fully.

But… come on. Just one song wouldn’t hurt.

It is for monetary reasons. If they can't make money from their creations, it's no use for them to release them. That is why they wait for the estate to decide to release them, because if they do it themselves they will not be able to monetize with it

The only time that snippets of MJ were legally shown on any platform were Faking Michael's snippets, but for research and authorization purposes of the producers, I think they aren't winning money of them. The GYWOOM snippet from the mjcast was already on yt too, so tecnically Prince wasn't playing anything (and anyway it's the same thing as FM snippets)

I don't think that every MJ collaborator is trying to leach on Michael's Legacy. Most of them don't even have those songs. And they don't want SONY to send them seize and desist letters.

IDK. Why this thread appeared on my feed now Feb 2, 2025. But I read through and just gotta thank the FAM and how you all get it.
Why did something or somebody show me this tonight?

I've been working on my book and deep in these things.

God, I’m excited for this book. Very interested to see what format it takes.

Hey man just wondering if you have any updates on pictures or additional information
Man I've been trying to find the pictures but it's not in my files. I've asked a few friends who were part of the group and they remember it but don't have pictures.

From what I recall, it was a deal started in 1981 for The Nightline brand. I remember they were bulky....let me do some more digging. Thanks for reminding me

Tapes with 7 (and likely more) of the songs from the Dangerous sessions that get descover last year (i'm not saying that it's the same tape) it's going in auction on Gotta Have Rock And Roll Site on Feb 19th until March 7th. These songs have already been up for auction several times, someone here should do a crowdfunding for these

(3rd time that Seven Digits is put on auction, bruh)

I don't think
Many copies are too similar, compare Shana's tape and the Seven Digits tape that was sold last year and likely came from Loren. They are the same

It definitely has to be from someone who is desperate to sell it
Tell me which tape has "Unreleased" written on it lol

2024 and that guy still wants to make money from Michael, he's really struggling financially

Anyway, Could anyone identify what year those tapes were manufactured? Maybe we could get an idea of what Era them could be

This is a cassette, lol. Shana's obessed with MJ, she could have made this copy for herself.
Sorry, I really forget the difference lol

Anyway, it doesn't really have to be Shana. I mean, any collector with that tapes could make that copy. Korgnex has more than 30 tapes from the Dangerous era, for example
I would not doubt that these tapes are in the hands of several collectors

Soooo.... Crowdfunding? 👀

Is Superfly Soul Sister a early version of Superfly Sister?
Do you think All the truth you need and Call it Off are duets?

What’s the exact origin of this supposed unreleased MJ song exactly?
These snippets seem fake, but “Revenge” is among a few unreleased titles seen on HIStory era cassette tapes. If I’m not mistaken, somebody credible once said that it’s little more than an instrumental.
