The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Such a strange crazy story i can't believe i've never heard anyone talk about this. Even got a Diddy cameo 😭😭

This also would date some refs for MJ as 1998 that were previously thought to be 99
Diddy do it?

Question, do we have any evidence or source stating Remember What I Told You/Just Remember was worked on in June 2009? If so, very eerie since the song sounds like a parting message.

AlwaysThere: Some information I've recently become privy to:

- "Boy No" is similar to "Days in Gloucestershire" and "Beautiful Girl," with touches of "Human Nature," in terms of production, with a great melody. Michael only ever recorded a verse and chorus, so the Estate would need to call in a second singer if they ever wanted to release it, but it's apparently quite beautiful.

- "Rocker" is allegedly the most finished post-trial songs: proper vocals all the way throughout (albeit with a somewhat incoherent lyrical narrative) w/ some screaming in the final leg, guitar solo, etc. Parallels have been drawn between it and "They Don't Care About Us."

- "H2O/Dark Lady" has been described as having comeback hit potential, had Michael lived to finish and release it. It's got a characteristically earworm bass riff (evidently comparable to Queen's "Under Pressure"), a wonderful melody with a quasi-Arabic chorus, and modern production with synth orchestra hits. The verses are half-baked but the chorus is releasable as-is, so it could be a strong vehicle for a rapper's album, similar to how Drake flipped "Don't Matter to Me."

- "Remember What I Told You" was recorded around June 19, 2009, and is the last song Michael ever put vocals to. It's reportedly similar to "Speechless" in terms of tone, and only has a short verse and multi-layered chorus. It can't be finished in the same way "Boy No" could, but perhaps (in the words of the wonderful individual who told me) it could be a great intro or interlude on an album." It was apparently recorded in a sound truck parked outside the Staples Center, at some point during between rehearsals. I'd absolutely LOVE to listen to it. There were some songs tracked at the Carolwood residence though -- to my understanding, "Water" (the real one, not the Cascio one) was done there.

- There's a song called "She Don't Want Me" that sounds a bit like a modernized "The Way You Make Me Feel." There's only a few lines recorded that presumably would've been the chorus, but the melody is catchy.

GENERAL NOTES & OBSERVATIONS
  • The exact number of unreleased MJ–Jerkins collaborations is unknown, though Fred Jerkins III stated that there were β€œa few,” including β€œEscape,” β€œGet Your Weight Off of Me” and β€œWe’ve Had Enough.”
  • MJ and Rodney Jerkins briefly reunited in 2006 to discuss a future collaboration, but no actual writing or recording took place.
  • At least three Neff-U pieces are sonically reminiscent of Dr. Dre’s β€œThe Watcher,” though their time together ultimately did not yield any releasable songs.
  • MJ met with Rod Temperton β€œa couple of times” ca. 2008 to obtain his input on several existing demos (listed below). If any work was conducted between the two, it likely wasn’t β€œanything noteworthy.”

Someone I spoke to who was dead on about β€œRocker” and β€œDark Lady.” It’s possible that the June 2009 date was the last day the song was worked on.
Sadly, thats not verifiable enough. I wanna use your information for research but with no confirmed evidence, I can't.

Would guess almost all of these 90s/00s songs are from the Buxer/Prince icloud hack I've heard about (there's also Bill Bottrell who said the GITM tape was stolen) but unsure where Neverland Landing is from given Buxer/Prince weren't around. Possibly the same place as Turnin Me Off and Don't Matter To Me given they're also 80s but all getting reworked later on with Buxer/Prince is possible too.

What a voice. You can hear some pitch correction, but there were a few noticeable out-of-tune moments. Incredible to hear it like that.
I don't think I've ever heard Michael unintentionally out of tune. He had perfect pitch.
If he was off key it was intentional and part of the song structure.

It really depends on how you define out of tune. A singer isn’t a keyboard or a fixed-pitch instrument. The voice is flexible by nature, and its pitch constantly fluctuates due to breath, vibrato and articulation.

Because of this, it’s completely normal for sung notes not to land exactly on a single, mathematically precise frequency.
The best singers will occasionally be a few cents sharp or flat without it being intentional or audible in a musical sense.

Also, having perfect (absolute) pitch doesn’t mean you never sing slightly off frequency. That’s a misconception. It just means you can identify pitches accurately. Michael had exceptional pitch control and intonation, but that doesn’t turn the voice into a mathematically precise instrument.
There’s also no concrete proof (that I’ve seen at least) that Michael had absolute pitch. He clearly had exceptional relative pitch and pitch memory, which are definitely far more important anyway.

If every tiny deviation were β€œintentional,” that would imply superhuman micro-control at all times, which isn’t how singing works. What is certainly true is that his pitch deviations were usually expressive.

If he was off key it was intentional and part of the song structure.
He’s definitely had pitchy moments, both in the studio and in concert. Every artist does! Even the best voices falter sometime; it’s not a diss.

If he was off key it was intentional and part of the song structure.
The very very last few refrains of the Hollywood Tonight demo are a little "off".

But its a demo so it doesn't matter at all!

(They also cut and paste a bit of him slightly slightly out of tune singing Human Nature in the TII movie. A clip released after his death was unedited and he was a small bit off. Again, rehearsal, first tour in 12 years so it doesn't count).
