The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

I believe he also implied Man in Black had a lead scratch vox or something during the Paris seminar that he turned off, but I'm not sure I believe it.
There are no lead vocals on 'Man in Black'. However, there is a writer's demo by Loren with some mumbling.
Is "Fire" one of them? Or was that just fan hearsay from 20 years ago?
I've never heard that title before.

By the way, Michael sings on all of these except the 'Duet'. My favourites are 'Superfly Sister' and 'Call It Off'.

'The Choice' is the final version of 'Mind Is the Magic'. There is no difference.

There are also a few more Loren and Michael demos that aren't publicly known.
Superfly sister dangerous version is have lead vocals or just bg vocals?

According to one of the members here on MJJC, Loren told them that he wrote a song called "Deep in the Night" for Invincible, but it's pretty much unrelated to the 1990 song - that one was co-written by Skylark, according to Bill Bottrell.

I must add that “Homeless Bound” is a Brad Buxer backing track, as Brad Sundberg states here:

The leak sounds closer to other Buxer/MJ tracks - Stranger In Moscow, Will You Be There etc. in terms of mood, the piano & string sounds etc.

But then a Loren-produced tape with “Homeless” was discovered that storage unit. That may be a Loren-produced “Homeless Bound” different to what we’ve heard, or it’s a separate song. We won’t know without listening to the actual tapes, though.

It’s exactly the same version that has been released. There is no difference besides it being unmastered in my case.
So it's already possible for us to make a mock-up of the Dangerous configuration from 4/19/90 since we practically got every track from there. Are you able to describe how "Janet and MJ Duet" sounds like? Does it have any similarity with "Scream" or is it a different song altogether?

I wonder what made Michael rename Mind Is the Magic. Was he considering it for Dangerous? I guess we may never know.

The metallic screetches/samples in Homeless Bound sound like they may have been added on top of Brad Buxer's track, which makes me believe that the track was initially worked on by Brad and Loren later did additional overdubs/production. But the majority of it is definitely Brad's work.

If I'm not mistaken, the first snippet of Changes actually differs from the full version we got. The instruments are way louder in the full-length leak 👀

I wonder why it was called The Choice in the first place.
Much Too Soon would be cool. I doubt we'll ever see that MJ approved mix on an official release.
No chance. If you look and listen closely, you'll see that Korg specifically converted the file to 64 kbps. The rest of the stream was at 128 kbps. Most of these recent files are lossy anyway. Only a few people have the lossless files.
Also in the 4-19-90 Dangerous configuration, which version of Earth Song would be present? It seems there's a few.
It's probably the version for which you recently obtained the multitracks.

I'm wondering why people think Bryan would have worked on Homeless Bound.

Two real versions of Buffalo Bill exist; one with background vocals from The Jacksons, and the other being a Michael solo version. Both versions were recorded during 1983 in Victory sessions. Neither were revisited. The two versions were the same except in the soloist version (The Jacksons background vocals replaced by Michael background vocals), Michael recorded all of the vocal parts (including previously undiscovered low notes in the 2nd octave and flageolet/whistle register notes) and both versions had all the different vocal parts (both versions had the same number of all vocal parts and all these parts in both versions were identical), all the same productions, all the same introductions (orchestral symphonic (a string quartet and more)), and all the same arrangements. I hope both can be released, along with all of the previously unreleased songs (including all original forms) when the biopic comes!

The metallic sound could be anyone, not just specific to Bryan.
Michael always experimented with sounds like that, regardless if it was Bryan, Brad, Teddy or anyone. Even Bill Bottrell talked of similar metallic experiments on a “trash can” version of Dangerous that nobody’s heard yet. Everyone had a lot of samplers then with their own libraries etc. before digital audio workstations were common.

Bryan’s metallic sounds are a bit different to my ears - more like striking metal with a hammer than scraping. You hear it on “Work” and “Verdict”. The sound is sampled and sequenced part of the beat, that gives a mechanical vibe.

What's the source of that?

Michael sure worked on the song several times during Victory and Bad, but never truly finished it. There’s versions worked on by John Barnes, Matt Forger, Bill Bottrell, possibly Bruce Swedien etc. From sources I’ve read (Making Michael, Man in the Music, Bill’s tweets etc.)

Listening through again, I like “Much Too Soon” Mix #9 but I’m still drawn to the album version. The mixing is preferable in my opinion (sorry Bruce) and the production feels more complete. I also love the post-bridge instrumental section; it kinda feels incomplete without it after all these years.

Means the jacksons version and Michael solo version were never finished.
