The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

The Xscape version is from 1998 or very early 99 iirc. The leak I believe is from March 6, 1999, and yes, it is more developed and fleshed out than the release. Such a shame that they didn't release the leak instead, maybe they had it but didn't include it as to make it seem like BG wasn't a fully finished song as to make the remix more justified?
Could you please share this version of the song? I listened to it recently and couldn't hear any difference from the official release. Maybe I was listening to the wrong version?

I had the same thought! It is very likely

No, it leaked on August 8, 2002 according to a korgnex post from decades ago
dude… Blue Gangsta, not Xscape. and no, Blue Gangsta did not leak in 2002. The first time the song has been heard publicly was in the remix „Gangsta (No Friend Of Mine)“ which was made in 2007

I’m talking about Xscape dude, Blue Gangsta leaked in 2010

Just to correct what’s been posted here: the estate officially released two demo versions of “Blue Gangsta,” along with the Timbaland remix.

The early, more rudimentary demo appeared on Xscape, while the presumed final MJ version—featuring additional percussion, Western-style samples, and horns—was given an official music video on YouTube.
