I dunno, it very well could be. This is the first lead weā€™ve had on that title in almost 20 years, and it coincidentally is linked to someone MJ was actively working with. At the very least I think itā€™s possible it was a demo MJ wanted to consider.

The Neyo track posted here is from years before they met and Neyo started working on music for him. Unless by happenstance Neyo selected a random unreleased track from years prior and chose to reuse it to then give it to MJ. isnā€™t impossible but feels like a reach given the only ā€œevidenceā€ is the titles are similar (different spellings). Just a reminder thereā€™s 2 totally different reference tracks done by totally separate teams for MJ both in 2005, both with nearly the same runtime only off by 2 seconds, and both called Friday Night lol

False. Cocoa Butta was released in 2010. A time very close to his work with Mike.
The chorus harmonies of the song can also be a great clue since it's very close to what M was seeking during his final years.
The verse lyrics are probably a later work.

On top of what NetflexKing wrote, I think ā€œFriday Nightā€ being a title for multiple songs is much more probable than ā€œCocoa Butterā€ lmao. As for the spelling, itā€™s not like MJ was the strongest speller there ever was. Itā€™s furthermore possible Ne-Yo switched up the spelling of ā€œbutterā€ for his own artistic reasons.

Obviously Iā€™m not saying the songs ARE the same, but I donā€™t see any reason to explicitly rule it out.

Which part are you saying is false? Did you look into the song at all aside from just clicking the link and seeing "uploaded in 2010"? The album its on is all music from the early years of his career before getting signed onto Def Jam and writing hits for other artists which began in 2005 lol. So the song is pre 2005.

Yeah its not impossible as I said, I agree with you. There's just no reason to think it is really

It's totally possible as plenty of song writers will dust off an old song and present it to a singer. Hell, Michael dusted off Fly Away and presented it to Rebbie. It's not far fetched at all especially given the title of the track. Not many people are naming their songs Cocoa Butter....Michael never got around to it and Ne-Yo released it himself.

Source that the songs are pre-2005? There is no available info that indicates the song being "Unreleased" nor an available recording date.
 
I still think "Coco Butter" and "Butter Funk" are the same song and the latter is confirmed to be a Brad Buxer song, so I don't believe it myself that this "Cocoa Butta" song is a MJ writer's demo. Plus Ne-Yo has talked a lot about the songs he's written for MJ, if he had put out one of the songs he would definitely mention it at one point.
 
So Schaffel's shopping around for an apparently finished 3-part 'reality show', episode 3 of which is about WMCIG
Interesting, if the track or particularly the footage is owned by Schaffel, this might actually happen.

I just want to see proceeds going to charity...

I knew that the Teddy Riley team had worked for a while during History. But they also apparently worked for a month during the creation of Blood On The Dancefloor.
There were early attempts at new songs, before they ultimately reworked some older ones.
 

Here's the alleged "What You Do To Me" snippet without any vocals on top. Would be good if someone could ask Damien about this snippet.
