I think the record-label (Sony) has to request it.Great to see these new certifications. Is anybody know how it works, what is the cerftification process, who needs to "request" these?
In The UK, sales from 1994 are automatically updated. 1994 is when the UK's official chart company was established.Great to see these new certifications. Is anybody know how it works, what is the cerftification process, who needs to "request" these?
I still don’t understand how this work. Why particularly The Essential? Michael eventually got quite a few compilations to his name, so I would have believed that those would kind of counter-act each other, making neither a mainstay on the charts, or making a couple of them rare occurences toward the bottom. But instead we observe incredible performance from both Number Ones and, now, The Essential.
Can't help you with your question bc I've decided I don't really understand how charts work. Does my head in, lol. But I can say this; apart from Invincible, the two CD's I play the most are Number Ones and Essential. I love them both, I could probably manage just with those two and nothing else if I really had to.I still don’t understand how this work. Why particularly The Essential? I read somewhere that the record company nominates which greatest hits collections charts. I am most likely wrong but I have zero idea of how it actually works, tbh.I still don’t understand how this work. Why particularly The Essential? Actually, that kind of makes sense to me. I have only ever seen Number Ones, Essential and Scream on sale in the UK. If the record company can influence which compilation is eligible for charting maybe that in turn affects the buying decisions the record shop makes. Just speculating ...I read somewhere that the record company nominates which greatest hits collections charts. I am most likely wrong but I have zero idea of how it actually works, tbh.
I am annoyed that Number Ones no longer charts. It is the longest charting album released in the 21st century in the UK and I was hoping that it would get to 1000 weeks someday.Actually, that kind of makes sense to me. You posted this last August. I'd forgotten the number of weeks Number Ones achieved. Or was there a later figure? Can't remember. Anyway, I can see why you're frustrated.Top 10 most charted Michael's albums on the UK Top 100 Albums Charts:

2. Thriller: 259 weeks. Last charted in August 2016.
3. Off The Wall: 225 weeks. Last charted in March 2016.
4. Bad: 180 weeks. Last charted in August 2015.
5. Dangerous: 102 weeks. Last charted in September 2009.
6. History: 95 weeks. Last charted in August 2009.
7. The Essential: 89 weeks. Last charted in March 2019.
