Probably true but why did it chart in years prior to 2019? Have they changed the rule in the past year? Is there now greater emphasis on radios?

They changed the rules for catalogue songs in 2019. Apparently old songs were allowed to chart if they were being actively promoted on the radio as a "current" single even though airplay is not factored in.
THRILLER went as high as #30 on the sales chart last year, that was enough for it to enter the top 40 singles chart.
But it seems that this year it will be allowed to chart again since it is #24 on the midweek chart

Thriller enters the UK singles chart at number 57 after not charting last year.

That rule is really unfair, but gladly, Thriller has charted this year. Hopefully it will also chart in the USA next week.

I don't see it charting this year.
Two days only will count, 30-31 October. (tracking week 30 october 5 Nov)
It will need to make the top 50 according to rules for catalogue songs in order to chart.

Also, as you are quite knowledge in charts and sales. Could you please let me know the sales of each MJ solo album in US and UK?

Thriller returns to hot 100 at #48, with only two days really counting (30 and 31 October) for the tracking week October 30 - 5 November. That is pretty incredible.

If this year, the week tracking was 28 Oct - 3 Nov, Thriller would have been a lot higher.

It’s has done really well in the UK this year. Better than last year. Number ones has been consistently in top 40/50 albums each week for the past few months. It has only started to decline now due to the Christmas albums.
