These are the test prints in the different colours making up the British Virgin Islands stamps, which were cancelled, but many were sold as collectors items on the open market. (The printing company closed down and the stamps were bought by another company, which sold them. You can still find most of the stamps in this thread on ebay.)

Michael Jackson Approved For U.S.A. Postage Stamps

Singer Michael Jackson, activist Harvey Milk, holiday chestnut Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, actor Charlton Heston and visionary Steve Jobs may soon be available at the local postal office.

According to a document created by the U.S. Postal Service's Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee that was obtained by the Washington Post, the late Apple co-founder and a slew of other notables may land on a U.S. Postage stamp starting as early as this year and through 2016.

Other proposed subjects include iconic host of "The Tonight Show" Johnny Carson, R&B singer James Brown and the crew from the comic strip Peanuts.

Noting the plethora of pop culture sports, music, film and TV subjects, it's no secret that this broad appeal push is a definite attempt to increase revenue for the troubled postal service. USPS spokesman Roy Betts told CNN that it creates excitement.

"The postal service is looking to bring more timely, relevant, contemporary subjects to stamps," he told the news agency. The spokesperson said that while the list of pop-culture subjects appealing to younger audiences is extensive and fairly current (dated Jam 7.), it can change.

Possible stamp subjects centering on music icons include Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Both are currently in the design development stage. For 2015, look for Elvis Presley and James Brown. For 2016 (but not yet in development) the lineup includes Jim Morrison, Sam Cooke, Freddie Fender, Michael Jackson and John Lennon. Roy Orbison has already been approved and a Sarah Vaughn stamp is currently in development.

The extensive list of proposed stamp subjects and their stages of development are below:
