The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Personally I dont care how much the movie makes in its first weekend. Doesn't matter if it makes $100 or $100 million, as long as it's a GOOD MOVIE (and not just 100% fluff)

My main concern is that Paris' prediction about the movie being nothing but fan-pandering propaganda is true. This movie (and especially the sequel, if there is one), above all else, has to be a good film that pleases critics/audeinces and not just die-hard fans like us. It needs to tell the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be for some of y'all.

Tons of critics automatically dismissed the Broadway show just on the grounds that it barely addressed the allegations. It was like the actual show itself didnt matter, it was just labelled MJ propaganda from the start. These films CAN'T repeat that.

Damn this one is actually crazy😮🔥

One thing I hope the film doesn’t do is “normalise” Michael’s early adulthood so that the general audience can relate to him more. In many people’s minds this would solidify the idea that Michael became ‘weird’ in the late ‘80s, though the truth was that he had been that way for many years.

They’re including Michael reading Peter Pan to Bubbles, but I wonder if the filmmakers will see conversations with mannequins as going a step too far… or perhaps Michael wandering the streets at night to find a friend

I forgot to add: I wonder which, if any, of the children in Michael’s life will appear here. Is it too risky to include any of them?

This period sees Michael write State of Shock with a young friend called Randy Hansen, whilst Emmanuel Lewis was famously by his side for much of 1984. Their absence would likewise place Michael’s ‘interest’ in children as something that developed in the late ‘80s, and not earlier

Did Michael ever say he talked to the mannequins? He said he didn't talk to them on the Shmuley tapes:

They really should show how Emmanuel Lewis's family took Michael in and cared for him after he was burned and went to a hotel instead of going home. It would show why Michael always needed those surrogate families.

I think you're confusing Emmanual with Dave Dave?

Director Antoine Fuqua joins Rich Eisen to discuss his upcoming Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ starring the Coleman Domingo, Myles Teller and newcomer Jaafar Jackson in the titular role.

Ah, maybe you’re right and he didn’t talk to them. Nevertheless, “I knew that something was wrong with me at that time” is quite a telling remark

I would agree, but I think they’re going to play it as safe as possible when it comes to kids. I’d be pleasantly surprised if Emmanuel shows up during the Grammy’s scene

That new poster of Bad era Jaafar looks insane! It's like someone plucked Michael right from the middle of the Bad tour lol. I hope we get a decent amount of Bad era stuff in part 1, I don't wanna have to wait until 2027-2028 to see more of Jaafar with this look.

Unfortunately neither the soundtrack nor the trailers point to a "decent" amount being covered. At all.

True, but I was thinking of more scenes from the Bad tour instead of just the song "Bad" being performed like the trailers have been showing, or even short scenes from outside of live performances like that scene with Michael hyping himself up as the Bad concert is about to begin. Might be too much to ask with the runtime being limited as is but I'm hoping for at least 5-10 minutes total of Bad era footage.

Why do you need to buy tickets now? That's ridiculous. Most movies offer that only 1 week in advance.
I had referred to the premiere, which would need some planning to arrange attendance from all over the world. And to the impression that was indicated in other posts, that there is better access to events from Germany than from other countries.
I don't want to react to unfriendly statements like this though, please rethink your choice of words in future.
My big respect to everyone who won tickets in different countries just now and are flexible enough to arrange their trip within this short time. 👌

Yet, they should also have included his first girlfriends Tatum and Brooke, who did not appear in the cast list. I suspect they leave out most of this private/personal stuff beyond career. It would be an interesting choice if they include his pet but not his girl- and children- friends..

Tbh the way that they both distanced themselves from Michael and their relationship with him I wouldn’t want them in the movie . Screw them!

If I understood right, Tatum O'neal was not his girlfriend; He was attracted to her. Her parents didn't want her to be in a relationship with him because he was Black. Apart from that, I totally agree with you.

Ohh I thought they were? I’m sure Michael himself said she was one of his first girlfriends, maybe not.

I remember the Bashir documentary where he described a time when she was trying to pull his trousers down at her house but he was too shy.

Will it be creative freedom to begin a show with 'Bad'? Since 'Bad' was never an opening song.

I would understand it from a movie perspective since 'WBSS' is not a track from the Bad era and that's what they might want to show, but on the otherhand; the real Bad opening sequence and costume are iconic in itself, and maybe even cooler

I think I mixed this up. Their relationship was not official at that time. Anyway, it didn't last long and as you said, they left him behind.

I have a secret desire for them to include APOM - with the right angles and montage it is by far one of his craziest dance performances... ever!!

So the movie must end with a reference to a part 2 right? Would be weird to just end it and only later promote a sequel
