Thriller 40th Anniversary

Wonder how fast the tracklist for CD2 will leak. Surely, can't be that long, seeing as the cd already has been announced for sale
Tracklist for Bad25 was revealed way after its single release (IJCSLY single). iirc tl was revealed in August.

The only problem is that I don't own a cd player & I haven't in about 10years thinking about it. So will mfd sound different digitally? 🤔 or what I'm confused as to why we're getting cds. Vinyl I understand but um...no. & why re-release the first 9 songs again instead of the short films in 4k. I really hope beat it & billie Jean have the original film prints to restore
Mobile Fidelity doesn't do download versions.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller has spent more than 500 weeks on the Billboard album chart and has sold over 100 million albums since its release on November 30, 1982. The first such activation is the first drop of new merchandise featuring the special Thriller 40 logo which is now available exclusively through the MichaelJackson.com webstore.

MORE ABOUT THRILLER:

Thriller
holds a modern-day record of 37 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard. It was the first album in history to spend each of its first 80 weeks in the album chart’s Top 10, a feat only reached by one other album in the nearly four decades since. During its 112th week on Billboard’s album chart, it became the first title ever to be certified RIAA 20X multi-Platinum (October 30, 1984) and became the first title ever to be certified more than RIAA 30X multi-Platinum in 2015 and since has been certified at 34x Multi-Platinum.

Worldwide, Thriller went to #1 in practically every country in the world, including the UK, France, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and apartheid South Africa and remains the biggest selling album of all time with sales in excess of 100 million. Seven tracks from the album became Top 10 singles, and three, “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller,” went No. 1.

The music on Thriller was so singular for the time it defied any definition of rock, pop or soul that had gone before. “Beat It” was a new kind of pop-rock hybrid and demolished the longstanding segregation between black and white music with Eddie Van Halen’s incendiary guitar. On “The Girl Is Mine,” two men, one white and one Black, banter about the same girl. On the same album were songs like the African-rooted “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” and the rhythm and blues-based “Billie Jean.”

Michael set out to revolutionize how to tell a story and entertain on a grand scale through film but faced roadblocks. Despite the luscious cinematography, dramatic narrative and spectacular choreography of “Billie Jean,” a fledgling MTV, which was programming white rock artists almost exclusively, refused to play it. Epic persisted. Once the wall came crashing down, MTV’s ratings soared and a door was opened for a generation of African American artists. “He was MTV’s Jackie Robinson,” said cultural critic Touré.

Next, came the unforgettable short film for “Beat It,” which featured Michael bringing two gangs together through the power of music and dance. And then there was “Thriller.” Premiered at the AVCO Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983, it sold out every night for three weeks. No other video before or since has generated such excitement and has such a hold on our attention, such that 40 years later we all share it as a collective memory and it remains the only music video to be inducted into the elite National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Music from Thriller and Michael’s other hit albums is featured in the hit Las Vegas show Michael Jackson ONE, at the Michael Jackson ONE Theater in Mandalay Bay Resorts and Casino and in the acclaimed Broadway musical MJ The Musical at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York, which was nominated for 10 Tony Awards last week. Michael has sold more than 1 billion records and remains one of the top streaming artists in the world.

this is the important part, so as I've assumed no post 1982 tracks will be on it. It'll be similar to Bad25 - so far minus its stupid remixes.

I am not 100 % sure but i think i heard that BJ was the only music video which was shot on tape not on film.
I read somewhere that instead of 35mm it was 16mm. Otw era is all tape... well the 3 from that album. Victory tour would be prefect for this as well as 4k

So off the wall 40 didn't mean anything neither did d25 but as always thriller gets all the attention. I love it but I feel like we should've had d25 at least....or d30. Lol I feel cheated

If it's true then 16mm would look good if scanned in HD or 4K

I also can't fathom how they skipped OTW 40, or did at least something worthy for D 25. But I just told myself to try and forget it, and really hope this disc 2 won't be a major disappointment.

They could try dig up some studio footage from Thriller era as well. Would've been nice.

Other than that, can't honestly say I'm too hyped. We have seen and heard it all 100 times regarding Thriller and it's not the first anniversary edition we are getting.

1) I'm pretty sure this is a film camera.

2) Notice the "lightning effect" on this frame. Probably caused when the original 16mm print was transferred to create the tape master.
Vision was the first release where it was fixed. Virtually all previous releases have this exact same effect on this exact same frame.

Great! :)

i hope the other projects will be

Thriller + Making Of (Blu-Ray) + Victory Tour Concert <-------- This is the perfect time. Did you hear me ESTATE?
0% chance for a Victory concert, even though it would be the absolute best idea, talk about "bringing him back to life". The family has to agree and collaborate on the project, and both The Estate and The Jackson family won't cooprate with each other for multiple reasons.

They should however, release a proper high quality Making of Thriller (or re-release the old one in higher quality).

Album songs
Demos
Making of Thriller (+ Behind the scenes type of stuff)
Thriller 3D?
Studio footage
Interviews with the people who worked on it all, could also release older interviews in higher quality or a combination
Thriller documentary?
Some high quality videos of Michael himself, doing or saying whatever Thriller related. The world misses more Michael in high quality footage

I'm sure there are other ideas that could work. But I am being way too naive to even begin to think they will include more than 20% of this

My wish is that The Estate releases every month or second one short film remastered to HD featuring a documentary how the song and video was created. But not like a documentary like Bad 25 rather than something like The Beatles: Get Back. Just put footage after another and let the documentary create itself.

I’m really itching to buy the MoFi LP, even though it’s expensive…

Wasn't Making of Thriller also remastered for the Venice Film Festival 2017? I read something that it was shown after Thriller 3D

Question is: was that a re-scan from the reels or the regular tape master?

Apart from the album + unreleased audio material, I think it's essencial that they release the music videos in 4K. There's no better opportunity.

I'm looking forward to it but actually have had enough thriller editions like 25th would have been better for dangerous30

Finally!! Excited there's a new MJ project coming, I wish it was something less obvious than Thriller, though it's understandable as it's the easiest MJ project to promote

I enjoyed Maxwell's performance, mainly because I think Maxwell is a great artist. His shout out to Mike at the end was wonderful. Nice to see Lady In My Life get a chance to shine

I hope we get some interesting things with disc 2, Behind The Mask demo, Buffalo Bill or Chicago 1945 would be wonderful. It would be a treat to hear some new stuff. I wouldn't blame them for releasing leaked material but hopefully that's not all

Hopefully the estate can come to an agreement with Quincy, the project would feel more rounded if they could release Q's work and not have to sidestep the issue

The font looks awful. I also don't doubt that the "never-released tracks" are gonna be songs that were already released or songs that already leaked, I really hope it's not the case because I want to hear songs like Victory and Rolling The Dice.

What about a CD release of "When You Wish Upon A Star/Follow the Yellow Brickroad/Ease On Down the Road" medley?
Copyright nightmare? Maybe? And I maybe it would fit better with Off The Wall than Thriller ?
