This is the third time that I got a member sending me messages on twitter asking why they are banned from MJJC, when I check I realized that they are in spam accounts group. these are members that do not post much. is it the spam program we added that banned these members by marking them "spam accounts"? Is there a way to correct this?

I think that is already corected now by us switching to manual membership by email instead of auto
There is a spam filter that checks against email adresses , IP adresses etc that are reported for abuse on the Internet. sometimes it can be over sensitive. thats why we now have manual registration.
I just had a member sandhi contact memberservice to ask why. I think the reason she got caught in the spam filter is her email address was used for unsolicted email on other endevours she is related to outside the board .. I explained that to her and apologised for the incomveniance.... and changed her status back to Jr member.
She enrolled prior to our stopping auto enroll. New members are manually added now
and wont get caught up in the spam filter any more ... only Bots will now ..
If you know thier username. I can do a google search on the email address and or IP to see
what the prob was. Otherwise all we can do is change their status manually for them

I checked there are 4773 members in "spam accounts" category. I'm assuming the program automatically put everyone there with 0 or 1 post. The three that asked me why they were banned all had only 1 post.
So I wondered if we want to move those accounts from spam accounts to another category - junior member or moderated because the legit people in those accounts are getting banned notice if/when they try to login.

Its not automated its when you moderate the spammers on the board you have the ability to choose when banning either banned or spam accounts, I do believe however there might be a few proper members from when I set this up.
But no its not auto putting people in there when they sign up as no can sign up unless we create the accounts for them.

I dont know why I was thinking the filters were still in place. I guess I was thinking bots could still get though.
Yes these were from the past before we set up manual registration. Spam was coming in at 100's or more a day a day. So few legit may have been caught up in the frey and sent to spam. But not many .. 4 thousand seems reasonable based on the amount coming in from the bots. Remember our general forum alone was filled with pages of it daily.
Majority of the spam came from russia, China and africa _ As far as accounts with NO posts. ANY account that joined with MAN in their profile description Is a Spammer. That is a definate indicater- Bots use that description. No legit member uses that. Most spam accounts place a link to there website in there profile which i deleted many of them so they couldn't advertise through there profile.
We can can go though them manually as we have time and see if we can find any that may be legit accounts. ( change them to Jr member) then we can moderate untill they reach 10 posts. but to place all of spam into moderation or Jr membersip would be havock as we would get all the 1000s of bots posting again.
Ivy Was there anything unusual about these 3 accounts that would cause them to get placed in spam ? Name, email, profile entries. Of course any posts would have been hard deleted - so we cant see if what they initially posted caused it.

Qbee- I changed 2 people and another one is yet to return to me with their user name. The two I changed were legit members - one from USA , one from Canada, had hotmail or .ca emails, no MAN in their profile description and both had only 1 posts.
That's what made me think that one of the spam programs Gaz added automatically moved these low post members to spam category automatically.

Yes some may have got caught up automatically but not for low or no post count - that was not the criteria.
they would have been caught at the door by filters or manually in moderation for other reasons, so yes they would only have one or no posts. but I dont think they were sent to spam for having 1 or no posts. maybe just an over sensitive filter. After viewing the Spam account I think you are right Ivy

I see many havent even logged in in since the day they joined most over a year.
They have know MJ usesr names like 2000watts and Michaellover etc so they were
not placed their manually. But a lot are dead weight.. they have never even logged in
since the day they registered .. some for many yrs
I dont know why we dont delete some of these inactive accounts
But Anyway there are a few we could move back who were more recent but for the fact
in the prune/move option - Jr. Member selection is not available to move them to ..
and there are too many go into each account seperate to change them.
