Was "We've Had Enough" completed before Invincible came out

According to "All The Songs..." - It was recorded in 1999/2000 at Sony Studios, New York and Darkchild Studio's New Jersey. It's likely it was mixed or tweaked again before it was included on The Ultimate Collection.

I think so, because it seems that the song comes from the first writing session between him and Rodney Jerkins, which took place at Carole Bayer Sager's house.

I'm not sure if this is confirmed, i think it is not. But since Carole Bayer is listed as a songwriter, it could be. It's possible that Michael has freshened up the song for the Ultimate Collection, similar to what was done for BOTDF.

'Michael Jackson – All The Songs, The Story Behind Every Track' by Richard Lecocq and François Allard says the song was recorded from 1999 to 2000, during the Invincible sessions.

It is well known that Michael wasn't very involved in The Ultimate Collection. He gave it his approval, but as far as I know he didn't improve on any of the songs. (I am still a bit shocked he put In The Back out with mumble lyrics.)

Years ago, your didn't get to hear artists mumble-demos. So hearing one, or hearing a very unfinished track, could be a whole experience,.

'Stop The War' was the song's initial title.

An early mix of 'Stop The War' was completed in 1999, but Michael Jackson was not satisfied with certain of its lyrics, and thus the song was shelved.

After the release of the 'Invincible' album, Michael Jackson reworked certain of its lyrics, a new mix was recorded, and eventually the song (now as 'We've Had Enough') was included on the 'The Ultimate Collection' 2004 box set.

It was rather buried in the box set.

I don't think it was ever confirmed that the song was originally called "Stop the War". Carole Baye Sager never actually says it was when she's asked about it in 2016: https://web.archive.org/web/20200810045245/https://mjbackstage.be/mjbv2/carole-bayer-sager/

If that was the original title, though, then I guess the chorus originally went, "we've gotta stop the war!" instead of "we've already had enough!". So, then, the song itself was completed; it just had different lyrics and a different mix?

I guess "we've gotta stop the war" doesn't sound as good as "we've already had enough", but it definitely sounds better than, "if we all cry at the same time tonight" lol. I still would have put it on Invincible over "Cry".

I am talking about the original version of 'We've Had Enough' that, according to rumours, was meant as a duet with Janet Jackson and it originally had a lyrical theme (mistreatment of the Jackson family by the media) which was very similar to the 'Scream' duet song.
