What Are You Listening To?

I have listened to so much that it gets very overwhelming lol [that is probably because of how i'm doing this ]
I feel like this is the reason the main proposition when the question of "how to get into his music" comes towards Prince fans is to go chronologically, as it gives a better insight on how everything evolved and what-not– Either way I would say you have been doing pretty good work to catch up with a lot of his stuff. Even if it feels overwhelming a lot of this is pretty easy to gloss over (somewhat) if you don't have a deeper interest in the man so kudos to you.
I listened to 3 more of p's albums today ,,,Chaos & Disorder. I found that is quite a rock / guitar one actually
Yes! I love that album even if I don't listen to it much now, it has awesome rock compositions (I really like I Rock Therefore I Am) and the last half or so is fantastic, Dig U Better Dead and (specially) Had U are my favs from the album by far.
then Parade , the art work is cool right ? I was impressed because i didn't like the front cover of it to begin with .but that booklet inside made it right - it is a nice album and i LOVE Christopher Tracy's parade. and Venus de Milo is beautiful .......
and of course , Mountains .
Parade has to be one of my favorite albums simply due to its replayability, the sound identity is so strong due to how perfectly the production fits each song and the songs themselves all stick out, honestly it is pretty impressive by itself but I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this was during his late 80s run after all.
Christopher Tracy's Parade reminds me of Raspberry Barette but I still consider it cute. Venus de Milo goes into my "favorite piano P songs" category. My favs though have to be Kiss, I Wonder U and Under The Cherry Moon.
Then Controversy.... i like Controversy..annie christian ? i like that , that sticks out , and the title track - and the front cover.
Controversy always was in this sort of middle-ground between his usual early 80s stuff and Dirty Mind, so it kind of goes out of my memory at times just due to being sandwiched between those two things. "Controversy" is a really nice groove though, so is Annie Christian.
do you like 1993 album come ? that would be my favourite album so far. Hearing / discovering /giving Papa a chance~ got me into all this.
I actually haven't heard that one aside from Pheremone and another one I think? The length of the tracks always were an off-putter to the point where I still haven't thought of giving it much of a chance, even if I like the style the tracks are presented in and the album itself. Plus, I really like what I heard and consider it something special, so I will listen to it in due time.
I have got one called earth planet or something , An album i mean ..it is in a cardboard sleeve and is more 'recent' he is in a red shirt and the planet is the main focus on the cover art. pin it around 2010 11? maybe ..idk
Planet Earth, '07. I actually like this one, didn't listen to it a lot but it released the year after 3121 and it's a nice follow up. Future Baby Mama and Chelsea Rogers are the highlights to me. Again, definitely a nice pick.

Overall, great stuff. Again, some of this is easy to miss without genuine enthusiasm for his work and you definitely seem to have a lot of it. I would say you are going at a pretty good pace as a new listener for so much of the man's music.

Also, yes, he did tour and do shows a lot, at pretty much every corner of his career and then some. I haven't found much that I was as invested in as Lovesexy '88 but there's still so much you don't have to worry about it. So yes, it doesn't surprise me at all if a lot of the events you can think of he was there doing his thing.

On another note, I've been listening to this a lot lately– so serene. This album is actually very good for what it's all worth.

m is like "lights lights gotta do something about those lights ok?" oh god i miss him soooooo much :(

I feel like this is the reason the main proposition when the question of "how to get into his music" comes towards Prince fans is to go chronologically,
Hi my new P friend. :)I have asked you that before i think :ROFLMAO:lol 🥹🤭 But you know what? That link that you shared over on his thread really helps .So thanx again for that one. Appreciated.
as it gives a better insight on how everything evolved and what-not– Either way I would say you have been doing pretty good work to catch up with a lot of his stuff. Even if it feels overwhelming a lot of this is pretty easy to gloss over (somewhat) if you don't have a deeper interest in the man
mm i think it is overwhelming because i am first and foremost appreciating/trying to find my way around / his art and then trying to ...learn more about the man who created this mass amount of art and study his mindset. His mindset mostly , since i find art- appreciating yet intelligent folk are the most worthwhile /inspiring / fun artists to support.
so kudos to you.
🖤@N.I.O.47 ah well....kudos to all of us really, my lovely , because we are all on this journey ! and it is nice to do this on Michael's forum because although i feel i am with ' my people' Michael is always gonna be first and foremost for me. That's my childhood i can't change that , & wouldn't dream of it , but it is healthy 4 me to discover other artists too with a bevy of beautiful people~people are lovely here. @N.I.O.47
Yes! I love that album even if I don't listen to it much now,
It is elegant yet devastatingly .....thought provoking . alot of regret and anger i think ? . I mean, i only have to check the inlay and the front cover and see that it is dark, gritty and rock . And that is the part which has caused me to dip my toe cautiously, in his water, so to speak , So, at this stage... i'm 'drawn' but 'we' have many , many, many boxes to tick. before this ~ the artist ~ could 'cross my line/mind!' & maybe eventually find a third place in my heart. I am not easy to please, so it's gonna be some tough times ahead. I can feel the rocky road already..sorry, that's a terrible, awful joke ! :ROFLMAO:
it has awesome rock compositions
Mn yeah, See, This is major to me. and i think this is what draws me the most to P. Being a rock supporter anyway [ I was a rock supporter [gnr] before i became a supporter of Michael's [ Rock is in my blood already, i'd like to think ~and so when P. gives us that rock aspect. I'm there.
In my discovery and opinion, he was a bloody good guitarist. Like , so... the videos which i have watched so far , he does that electrifying riff and gets involved in his art so naturally, and i love when artists can let us in on that..because playing . really playing is such a personal thing and so ,. The more i listen to his guitar work, well the more i think he was a master of that really punishing , hard, devastating solo & as i mentioned, the intoxicating riff.
And , i feel, he was dexterous at piano & guitar. Well just the Fact he played piano also. Which again, already i love the piano , I loved dearly when m played it to us! and Axl Rose...well./..i..yeah ~ ..just adore a guy playing piano! 🖤 So, when i visited his thread earlier this year n last, lots of P. piano vids were being posted , So, P's skill at piano alone, had been brewing to the point of amplifying in my head for quarter of a year anyway:ROFLMAO:, I was like - Hang on a bloody minute,:ROFLMAO::unsure: this guy who they all seem to love on here n i absolutely bloomin well cannot stand, seems , ...well, not too bad on his piano actually ! ~An epiphany was rising! Ding! lol
Plus when you showed me what BatDance was actually originally supposed 2 B ... ahh, the ... dance with the devil i think it was , i was shocked at how good /up my street it was .. i was gutted it never was to be because i loved that ~everything about it~ - immediately :(
...Then, days later i thought , nah, that was just a fluke that's me seriously projecting !~.then, few day back - i saw the outtakes of GB and those scenes confirmed my inkling , and so ,...well, i was so pleased with the intensity - and then that was another tick off the very extensive list. I am really, really picky with artistry , i don't like too many but those little who i do like , i do try to appreciate best of my abilities and it is imperative that i have valid , solid reasons for doing so.
(I really like I Rock Therefore I Am) and the last half or so is fantastic,
I like that too. Yeah can get wit that one for sure.! 🖤!!
Dig U Better Dead and (specially)
Great rock album babe💯
Had U are my favs from the album by far.
That is the final track on the album isn't it? It looks pretty in the booklet the way P. wrote two words. and fitted that story telling that he could do.
Parade has to be one of my favorite albums simply due to its replayability, the sound identity is so strong due to how perfectly the production fits each song and the songs themselves all stick out, honestly it is pretty impressive by itself but I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this was during his late 80s run after all.
Christopher Tracy's Parade reminds me of
I do love the fact he could act. I saw a few mins clips in New girl ..or something. He could act lol
Raspberry Barette
Now this song here. It starts good , but i can't stand the chorus , But In some ways I see that one as two songs.
"Seems that I was busy doing something close to nothing
But different than the day before"
That is clever to me . I like when he goes clever with lyrics

Edit no! sorry , so sorry ..no
OMG i am so dumb. This is the wrong song .... I am thinking of little red car .pink? .no, i dont know something with colour , it is a witty [!] fabulous start , really catchy..

"I guess I must be dumb
'Cause you had a pocket full of horses
Trojan and some of them used
But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right,,,"
I think that is genius writing right there...
but then the song chorus weakens it for me. We can't have it all !So many of P. supporters seem to love this one.💯🫶♥️
but I still consider it cute. Venus de Milo goes into my "favorite piano P songs" category.
A wonderful discovery and all round yes for me too.
Dirty Mind,
Gosh Yeah ...this , well i am yet to try this one. But i have heard one song from it & it was catchy.
I actually haven't heard that one aside from Pheremone and another one I think?

Here is the album for you. For me , i bonded with it straight off , in my opinion it is one of the most important albums since he 1958- 1993- so, 'Prince' was no longer ~ It was the final album So , i think this album is imperative in ones collection. There are 10 tracks and if in your own time maybe have a little snout and see if you like any of the art there.
It was the first CD i ever bought from this guy because this looked something, everything great to me , Quite gothic and dark ~ Admittedly , The last song is a bit graphic ~a bit 'typical' of P. but he had an attractive voice. & i am not actually listening to what he is saying, don't care about the content either~i am listening to the smooth liquid flow of his accent. [i am English so a certain american voice /tone is fab to me] I have friends from Minneapolis and the accent to me is very liquid , molten honey dew, silky ~ and i noticed when he started speaking on this album alone, it wasn't so 'noisy' and that i really noticed his accent tonality cause it too, is mid western. So that aspect is a plus when listening to interviews or , i mean i put graffiti bridge on the other night [this might just be a staple of mine] and P.'s voice is pretty mellow as it is calming . i look for that in artistry. Gosh- i look for many elements in one's artistry.
So, with this aspect , it becomes a bit of AMSR i suppose.
The length of the tracks always were an off-putter to the point where I still haven't thought of giving it much of a chance, even if I like the style the tracks are presented in and the album itself.
I think that is one of his best album covers/ presentations and he had alot of ideas and imagery, and deep detail .
1 thing i noticed was, P. was intelligent to keep reinventing himself. I found that cool
There is a track on the Love Symbol 1992 ....augh...i keep meaning to play that album . it just sits for some reason. [I call it the 'yellow ' album . Controversy is the 'aubergine ' album ..GB is the 'ocean blue ' :rolleyes:album and so on :ROFLMAO:]Anyway , the track on Love Symbol is called 'The sacrifice of Victor' I need to check it out, because i believe it ties in with Papa from the Come album . And with that , what many of us people want [i think ] well i do certainly , is , that very sought after book ~ by Terry Gydesen.
Prince Presents: The Sacrifice of Victor. Paisley Park Enterprises. 1994. It was taken during the 1993 New Power Generation tour through Europe.
The Photography is a win there 4 me, because it is all black and white , and his aloof writing on a single page stuff like , *Sticks and stones will bug my phones and say that i mislead * for me , that looks like one interesting book to me and would be worth it if my journey goes well.
Plus, I really like what I heard and consider it something special, so I will listen to it in due time.
!!🖤 Enjoy when you do
Planet Earth, '07. I actually like this one, didn't listen to it a lot but it released the year after
It is a pretty CD in itself . I still have not listened to all of it. Because there is so much more coming and also on You Tube it's mass hysteria there...there are so many videos .One song which goes into my top three is hands down, Money Don't Matter Tonight. And also the cover art of the CD single is humble and holographic and just the whole package of the song, the message, the feel, the two videos and the overall presentation .It is just all there for me in that one song. Someone said to me , 'well, you only like it because that song is like michael's i laughed [i was on my lunch break] i said , nah, P. is nothing , nothing , nothing like m ! trust me! lol
This one , We don't see his face on this one do we? On the album art work cover i mean. I have not got this one yet. it looks too 'normal' for me... 🫤saying that, I most likely will check it out eventually. I said that about Sign of the Times and a good couple week later, here i am waiting on Sign of the times. Vinyl ~Exciting times ! so we will see about it 🤭
and it's a nice follow up. Future Baby Mama and Chelsea Rogers are the highlights to me. Again, definitely a nice pick.
Lovely , darling thanks i will get back to you on it sometime Thanks much!

Yep it is def. a genuine need to find out more and see what i have been like, missing- and avoiding all these decades, and so many michael supporters love him, & obviously first n foremost , it is the abilities and driven skill the guy had, but also i am doing it for my own personal needs/piece of mind too , billions of reasons
enthusiasm for his work
Yeah I think it is hard not to be , once you 'get into ' his line of fiery vision cause he had so much artistry~ sound to offer, and a zest for love. Which is always goin to be great to get immersed in , in combating [somewhat] the stresses of life , and maybe room for inspiration there too. etc

On another note, I've been listening to this a lot lately– so serene. This album is actually very good for what it's all worth.
Oh , Thank you for the link , think  I have this coming too. this Hit n run phase 2 something ? Made in 2015/16 ? But i know this was his last album before he passed right? Oh yeah, I managed to find 21 nights the big book and CD. which i was very curious about.. i hope it comes soon. Anyway
.. 🖤 I appreciate the chat. C U on our P. thread later
