What were the planned singles to Invincible?

From Carole's book "There're playing our song":

One night I got a call from John McClain , Michael's manager at the time , saying they were missing one last key song and they wanted me to write it with Babyface . We only had three days to write and record it . And we did it . Our " three - day ” song , " You Are My Life , " joined the same album with songs that had taken more than two years to complete ( not to mention all of the unused partly finished tracks and vocals scattered in recording studios across the country )

I don’t get it - so Michael himself asked Babyface to write him a song in just three days? Does that mean Michael can be considered a co-writer? After all, it was his request to write something on short notice. Maybe the idea for the song to be about his kids was his too?

They were credited as being one of the co-writers, so it's safe to say that, yes, they did, in fact, co-write the song.
Do we know what Michael’s actual contribution to this song was?

For example, with YAML, we know for a fact he got a co-writing credit just because he changed the title from You Are My World to You Are My Life at the last minute. I wonder if it was a similar story with Shout?

Maybe the song was originally called Shoot, and Michael just swapped an O for a U and then they decided to make him a co-writer

What benefit would that be for him though?
More money.

Don't Stop Til U Get Enough had Greg Phillinganes as a songwriter until he was removed and credited as an arranger. Since Michael is now the sole songwriter, he gets 100%

Behind the Mask is another example where Michael requested a bigger percentage and YMO refused.

Stranger is Moscow is another one. Buxer helped write the song and received no credit for his song writing. Sundberg spoke about it and said "He (Buxer) is very candid about it, and admits that he (Buxer) should have made a stronger stand about songwriting on Moscow. To use his exact words, "Michael was a very shrewd businessman", and he took full credit for that song."

Whatever Happens is another one where Michael is credited top billing on a demo that was already complete. He should've received arranging credits for the additional instruments he added

I never knew anyone else was involved with DSTYGU, that's very interesting. I thought MJ had written SIM alone, I didn't know Brad had anything to do with it. I'd be so angry if I was those creators!

Don't want to derail the thread but in short, Greg created the bridge in Don't Stop and was credited as songwriter on the single pressings but by the time Off the Wall released, he was removed and credited as an arranger instead. Greg and Michael agreed that he will be credited as songwriter but when Greg was getting ready to sign the papers, Michaels manager told him he [Michael] changed his mind. Greg was asked about it and said, "I could have been one of those guys to go, “Hell no.” I could have gotten a lawyer and I could have gone at him because this was, by this point, pretty late in the game and the first pressing of the single was already done. I didn’t. I was deeply heartbroken and I let it go. I don’t know what you would have done in that situation, but that’s what I did. I was young and it was Michael Jackson and I thought: I don’t have a chance. I ate it. I was very heartbroken, like I said, and that’s what happened. Now, Quincy didn’t realize – he thought that I was in, he thought that the deal was done and he was thrilled for me and didn’t realize until after the fact. He was upset, too, but it’s nothing he could do either."

Maybe it wasn't Michael who did it, but someone else. As we know, Michael was often surrounded by people who manipulated him... unfortunately.

Karen Faye, John Branca, all sorts of managers. I remember how a musician in the early 2000s wanted to work with Michael and sent him a demo.
He was rejected, but it later turned out that Michael hadn't even heard the demo and, on the contrary, would have loved to work with him...

Also, I read somewhere that someone from Michael's inner circle turned him against Mottola... Michael was manipulated a lot and forced to do things he would never have done.

I truly believe he would never have done that to Greg

It was Michael and that's one thing I've always been open about as a fan. A lot of fans sometimes coddle him but he would do shady things.

There would be no reason for someone to manipulate him in regard to songwriting. Even looking at Centipede, which was cowritten by John Barnes. Look at the credits and it's solely credited to Michael. Barnes spoke about some of those things as well.

The older Michael became, the more he acted "Joseph-ish" on everything music & music business related - ruthless and stubborn.

From C. B.-S. memoir:

Poor Rodney had no idea what was in store for him . Even I didn't . Month after month making track after track ; Michael stopping by the studio, liking one or two tracks but still wanting him to go further . " Dig deeper , Rodney . Give me more , ” he said in his famously breathy voice . As much as I was Michael's friend , I started to feel guilty about what I saw happening to Rodney . He was giving all his time , all of his creativity to Michael , who probably left the best tracks months behind him , and Rodney was going to blow his time as the top R & B producer in America . I had seen it happen to other producers with Michael ( Teddy Riley , Jimmy Jam , and Terry Lewis ) . Michael was exacting and elusive and mysterious in both his work and his life . He never told me anything straight out . Who else was working on the record ? Who was he getting counsel from ? He amassed so many more songs than he needed to complete this record neither of the two songs I wrote with Rodney made it on — but at least Rodney had written many of the songs when the album finally came out.

Michael wasn't manipulated to turn against Mottola, Mottola was belligerent towards him during the Dangerous sessions for the album taking too long, as well as some other undisclosed reasons. Also, what does Karen Faye have to do with anything?

She’s a backstabbing snake and a shady character. I saw a video where she was doing Michael’s makeup, and he was clearly uncomfortable - he even seemed to push her away. Plus, right after he died, she rushed to sell off his belongings.

Honestly, we can "thank" her for making Michael’s nose look like Pinocchio’s, when in reality, his nose was perfectly fine

Show me the video. I don't think she made his nose look worse? That's more on the numerous plastic surgeries.

He only had three plastic surgeries. His nose became very thin because of the nose contouring done by Karen Faye

I think you are deluded. Be objective. I actually seem to recall someone saying that he was determined to make his nose look as thin as possible, I think it was on the night of his performance for Elizabeth Taylor where he apparenltly contoured dark make up himself down either side of his nose. I can't remember where I read it lol, but if you look at photos from that night you can see it.
