I'm seeing conflicting dates. Some say it was recorded in 1999, others say 2000 and some even say it was one of the final tracks to be recorded in 2001. I can actually see it being one of the final tracks; makes more sense for MJ to single it out as his choice for the lead single if he had recently finished it.

MJ historians where you at

It was recorded, when RJ came up on the scene... So probably 1999-2000. I guess

So it was inspired by the 2000 movie Unbreakable starring Samuel Jackson after all lol

Definitely inspired by the Samuel L. Jackson movie then lol. Movie came out just one year prior and was so successful that it was even the top rented movie in 2001, on top of selling 2.3m on DVD.

I'm pretty sure that the reason they didn't just name the album "Unbreakable" was to avoid confusion. But nah, I still think they should have called it "Unbreakable"; I doubt anyone would have really been confused.

May 2001, during a final sprint-to-the-finish stint at Hit Factory Criteria in Miami. Alongside “Threatened,” it was one of a handful of last-minute additions.
Do you know the dates of each title of the album Invincible?

All I know is that "Break Of Dawn" would be from 1998. "You Rock My World" from 1999. And "Butterflies" from 2000.

Maybe there is a topic dedicated to the chronology of the titles?

But last-minute addition was only one song... You Are My Life... It replaced Shout song.. Other songs were recorded 1999-2000🤨

Maybe the song could have been renamed "Untouchable" to avoid confusion with the Unbreakable movie, so the album would be Untouchable.

You can't believe it, you can't conceive it
And you can't touch me, 'cause I'm untouchable
And I know you hate it, and you can't take it
You'll never break me, 'cause I'm unbreakable

Easy fix lol

Blue Gangsta 1999, Xscape 2000...?

"Blue Gangster" was recorded in 1998 in the same sessions as Break of Dawn and A Place with No Name. "Escape" was recorded in 1999, but further work on the song was made all the way to 2002. Same with "We've Had Enough".

"The Way You Love Me" and "Beautiful Girl" were recorded in 1998, but further work on those songs were made all the way to 2004. An early demo of "The Way You Love Me" from 2000 was actually leaked earlier this year:

Heaven Can Wait was 1999.

"Heaven Can Wait" was originally intended for Blackstreet's Finally album, which was recorded throughout 1998 and released in March 1999. MJ took the song while the album was still being recorded. Dr. Freeze is also featured on the vocals, so I'm pretty sure MJ's version was recorded around the same time he was working with Dr. Freeze in 1998.

No, I'm pretty sure It was recorded in 1999. @AlwaysThere am I right?

Wikipedia says 1999. That's probably from the Chris Cadman book For the Record. It doesn't matter so much but I'm sticking with that. The song outlasted that Blackstreet record and it's clearly a vocal take post 1998.

Cry is from 2000 as well. Butterflies, 2001. Speechless, 1999.

"Cry" is 1998 or 1999. R. Kelly was reported to have recorded ballads with MJ in 1998: https://web.archive.org/web/2002060...driver?MIval=Liste_News.html&TYP=ARCHIVE&id=3

And "Cry"'s existence was revealed in 1999: https://web.archive.org/web/2001042...iver?MIval=Liste_News.html&TYP=ARCHIVE&id=150

"Butterflies" is said to have been recorded in March 2000.

"Speechless" was first written by MJ in Germany during the History tour in 1997, iirc. I was sure that he recorded the song not too long after the tour concluded in 1997, so I would have thought it to be recorded in 1998. 1999 is when it was finished and sent to Mottola.

Are we talking recording dates or written dates. I'm going by recording dates, which may be different from conception dates.

Ah, according to that 1999 article, R. Kelly said he had proposed a song called "Cry" to MJ. I guess 2000 may have been when MJ actually recorded his vocals for it, but I've seen sources say it was one of the earliest songs completed for the album.
