Hello everyone. I'm curious to know which Michael Jackson's songs have ever been sped up or pitched, as this has always fascinated me. I feel as though all of Jackson's "Triumph" album and most of his "Bad" album were altered. But I wonder if any songs off "Off The Wall" or "Thriller" were altered as well!

I would really appreciate it if someone could make a list of all his sped-up or pitched-up songs.

Here are some other examples:

The original keys of 'Tabloid Junkie' and 'Shout' were also lower, but they sped these songs up slightly on the official releases.

The original keys of 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'' and 'Beat It' were also lower, but they also sped these songs up slightly on the official releases (in certain concerts, Michael Jackson sings these songs live in their original, lower keys).

Thank you. I always suspected "Tabloid Junkie" was sped up, so this makes a lot more sense. I never knew Wanna Be Starting Something and Beat It was, though; that's new to me.

If I recall rightly, in one of Brad Sundberg's 7 Songs videos, he mentioned "You Are Not Alone" as one... they had to get in several harmonizers to pitch up the whole end part up by one key on the multitrack. Changing the pitch without changing the speed.

michael didn’t need to pitch up his vocals. they were naturally high. even his vocal coach seth riggs confirmed he trained it to go even higher than originally was.

if michael’s voice was pitched up on ‘thriller’ & ‘triumph’, what about ‘say say say’, ‘sunset driver’, ‘save me’ and countless other non album recordings from those same eras? what about live vocals such as ‘upside down’ at the diana ross concert?

michael can be heard singing along to the playback during the making of ‘beat it

LOL so this is the new LIE MJ haters are pushing to undermine Michael's legacy and talent.

And the usual suspects are in here.

@kelley just comes here to make bitter comments about certain members and then disappears again.
You're right i'm bitter because "fans" on this site are spreading misinformation about Michael, and it's already hard enough defending him from the haters without "fans" making it worse.

Can you just shut the **** up? This is intended to be an interesting discussion about a subject that doesn't harm Michael's legacy in any way. But you think that way and try to blindly defend him against something that's innofensive. Get a life, loser. And why are the mods allowing this kind of dumb behaviour over here?

So pushing a narrative that Michael's vocals on his iconic songs were "pitched" and edited doesn't harm his legacy?

There are already people out who claim he couldn't sing, now I guess you guys want people to start saying his vocals weren't real too.

This thread has nothing to do with his vocals abilities. Some songs in his catalog were sped up. Compare the single version of „Another Part Of Me“ and the album version and you‘ll get what this is about.

You don’t have be to THIS defensive because nobody is diminishing his talent or anything. It’s not about edited vocals or questioning his vocal range.

Yep, bro's acting as if this is something bad when in reality it was pretty common back then, MJ just liked speeding up stuff because he thought some songs sounder better faster, no other reason
+ the speed difference in the Thriller era tracks and prior is actually a by-product of the million tape copies made for the million masters back then, i'd say MJ only started speeding up stuff intentionally during the Bad album.

It’s called stylistic choice. It’s not as if he was editing his vocals to sound good in the first place. FACEPALM

No, songs in particular on Bad have been confirmed to have been sped up (at least one reason given was to make them "dancier"), The Way You Make Me Feel is meant to be in-between two keys as a result. There is no doubt that this would not have happened without Michael's knowledge/approval.

Nobody is accusing Michael of modifying his songs or vocals to make them sound better. From memory Michael had a post-it note or something that said no Melodyne or something that showed that he was aware of that and/or autotune and did not want to use it.
