Why did Michael Jackson chose to do an arena(s) for This Is It instead of a stadium(s)?

Randy Phillips

(April 2009)

Do you plan a World Tour after the concerts in London?

We do not want Michael to be under much pressure. That is why we have a four-year plan, divided the world into four zones each. London is the first step, because Michael was always very popular there. Then it goes with Europe. We are thinking about coming events in Germany - we are indeed the O2 World in Berlin and the Color Line Arena in Hamburg. Then came Asia, North America at the end. But it all depends on how it runs in London. Contractually identified is still nothing.

He also talks about Concerts in Paris:

Are you thinking about concerts in Paris?

A world tour is still valid. Michael loves France and the French. If he is OK to give more concerts in the world, Paris is number one on our list.

Kenny Ortega:

(October 30, 2009)

They were also set to tour the world with their idol.

"Michael talked to me about it a lot," Ortega said of the world tour.

"We would just be hanging out on a rest break and sitting in the dressing room and he would say 'Kenny, have you ever been to India?'.

"I would say 'No, I really want to go to India so badly. I haven't been'.

"He'd say 'You must. You must. When I take the show to India whatever you are doing you have to stop and come back and join the tour'.

"He'd say 'What about Japan?'

"I'd say 'Yes of course. I love Japan. I want to go to Japan'.

"He'd say 'What about Africa?'

"I'd say 'Yes, Africa'.

"I realised he wanted the world.

"He wanted to take this all over the world."

After his 50 concert run at O2 Arena, Jackson would have headed to Australia, Europe, India, China and Japan before then heading to his homeland of America.

"We felt London was the right place to start this comeback," Phillips said.

"Do I think the international marketplace is a little less judgmental than America can be? Yes. There was a calculated reason we did that.

"We figured we start over there and work our way back into America."

Michael Prince:

(2017)

“You’re already touring. And it wasn’t only going to be London. It was going to be all over the world.”

All of these people can’t be lying. There may have not been a signed contract as of June 2009, but it quite clearly was the plan. Other sources have mentioned this also, I can’t find the quotes right now.

oh please, like all of them were claiming nothing was wrong with Michael, he was in good health, rehearsals are going great.... oops hes dead.. oops court case oops what they were saying in public was very different to what was really going on.

no shit sherlock? What does that have to do with what I said?
The thread asked "Why did Michael Jackson chose to do an arena(s) for This Is It instead of a stadium(s)?"

I said "Can you imagine how crappy it would be for the people at the very back of Wembley stadium?!" It doesn't have anything to do with what you said.

You said "Not more than any other concert at Wembley?" I simply pointed out that it's always better to have a small venue because you're closer, and because they have more control over the quality. No point in trying to be deep.

Don't see why Michael Prince would just make up the fact that MJ was going to tour elsewhere.
He was 12. He doesn't know anything.

never once was there any talk of a tour, it was a residency.

There were plans at that time also for a 'This It It' World Tour, as revealed not only by AEG Live, but also by the singer's camp, by his family, and so on.

For instance, Jermaine Jackson also wrote in his book that his brother Michael Jackson was about to tour around the world (in selected cities) after the London residency concerts.

Jermaine Jackson also wrote that there were plans about Michael Jackson performing at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2011.

So, there was indeed talk of a tour at that time.

So, whether these people were telling the truth or not about that, their words prove that there was indeed talk of a tour at that time.
Again all lies.

Again those of us who experienced it in real time know different.

Jermaine was insanely jealous that Michael was yet again doing his own thing. The family tried to get Michael tied up into doing a family reunion concert yet again during the time he was preparing for the London concerts. They even got Frank Delio involved , to try to get Michael to do THEIR concert instead of doing his solo residency.

Jermaine and his work of fiction book is not to be trusted. As soon as Michael died the Jackson family went hard to create the fantasy image that so many after death fans fell hook line and sinker for.

When Jermaine's a primary source I think it tells you everything lol

ah yes Michaels backbone... the one and only, who in 2007 didnt know Michael had been in Japan and had flown into Heathrow and was in a hotel down the street, and now blocks fans on social media when we remind of him this. :coffee:🤣

There were plans also for a final family reunion concert at that time because Katherine Jackson wanted to see all the brothers on stage one last time in her lifetime, and Michael Jackson agreed on that:

"Michael had agreed to do one "final" concert with the brothers and that was because Mother wanted to see us all on stage one last time in her lifetime, not thinking that Michael would pass before her ... [Michael Jackson] made that promise to her, not us, and we hadn't really spoken about it. But that [family reunion] concert was included in the many plans he had for after This Is it, including spot-dates in China and a performance at the Super Bowl 2010" (Jermaine Jackson, MJJCommunity Interview)

oh just give it a rest, look its all on here in the MJJC archives, as we were all on here posting about it and experiencing it in real time. Just stop with the theories as using unreliable sources. You wont get anywhere, pushing these narratives. And you are just making everyone laugh.

Keep in mind that Michael Jackson also agreed (some years before) to do the MSG 2001 family reunion concerts for his mother who wanted to see all the brothers on stage performing.

oh you mean the concerts I was at? Yep both nights, Friday 7 September and Monday 10 September. BTW, look at my join date, almost 10 years before you. Keep trying, you are just providing great entertainment at this point.

It might be true. Hopefully we can get a quote from Randy Tarraborelli to confirm.
