Why would my friend say this to me?

Last night i was out with a few of my friends, one of which Ive been friends with since i was about 9 or 10. We've grown up together and she knows how much i love Michael, way back to when i was covering my school books in MJ pics and jumping at every opportunity to make an essay or presentation somehow related to Michael hehe.

Early on in the evening and i bought MJ up in a conversation, as you do (we could be talking about what we had for dinner and id manage to get MJ into that topic!) Then my friend went on to tell me how she was drunk when she found out he had passed and that when she got told she said "oh...cool" then in the morning, when she was sober, she didnt feel any different then either.

Obviously this really shocked and hurt me, why would you say such a thing? And why did she stand there and say it to me Im so confused and i was really upset for the rest of the night. I dont know how to be around her anymore, Im so sad

Oooh I'm so sorry this happened to you.Don't be sad.I don't know why she said that because it's strange when somebody dies to say "cool".Things like that happened to me and with time i stopped hurting from other people's comments.Can't you ask her why she thinks other people death is cool?Or maybe she was just joking with you... like she was so drunk that she didn't understand what they told her?It's strange joke for her knowing you are fan but still... maybe she didn't want to hurt you.You better talk with her.I'm sure everything is going to be ok.God bless you *hugs*

sometimes people dont think before they speak...I dont know the age of your friend....sometimes young people lack the social grace to spear the feelings of their fellow friends...however is this friend is older..then she is just ignorant...I am sorry she said that and hurt your feelings like she did...Obviously she was not a big MJ fan....maybe in time you will be able to forgive her for being such a big mouth...if not...then kick her to the curb..sorry I dont know any other way to put it except to be blunt...hugs to you.:hug:

Alot of people who aren't fans don't realise just how much he meant to us and don't know the impact he had on most of our lives. Maybe just talk to her and tell her how you feel down because of what she said and that you'd rather she didn't say comments like that when you're around. A friend will always respect your wishes and how you feel. :huggy:

Some people are just very insensitive to peoples feelings!

My friends and family dont get my feelings for Mike. I love the man, not just the music! People never seem to understand how i can feel like that about someone ive never met! But everything he's ever sang or said, speaks to me and has taught me! She probably just dosent understand your feelings for him!
People are just like that sometimes! I dont understand how anyone can feel like that if anyone has died, but some people just dont think about others enough! Ive had friends tell me horrible jokes about him, when they no how i feel!
Just tell your friend how it has made you feel, if shes a good friend she should apologise!

Thanks everyone for your messages and advice. I havent spoken to her yet I havent really had the courage. Her Dad passed away when she was about 10 and i get the impression that she gets annoyed with me for being so upset about MJ because I didnt personally know him like she knew her Dad. I think, she thinks i have no right to be upset about MJ because of this. Im not sure if this is making much sense?

So i dont think i will say anything about what happened the other night to her although it has been on my mind since she said it
