anyone live in /around budapest

going on a short break there in a month.anyone have any tips/advice or places i should check out that are off the typical tourist routes

i live in Budapest
Well, how much time will you have to discover the city?
First of all i would suggest you to visite the Castle Hill, (Royal Palace), Heroes Square, Parlament (also inside if you have time - there are guided tours which last 1 hour), Gellért-hill - beautiful view from it on the city), the shopping pedestrian street Váci street

im gonna be there for 5 nights

oh yeah i forgot about that. was it filmed in a place you can go to or was it a studio? i like doing mj releated things when im away. had a wander upto the hotel he stayed in in florence a couple of years back when i was there last year. couldnt resist lol

Yeah, you can go to the places where he has filmed, it was not a studio it was in different public - famous places in the city: Royal Castle, Heroes Square, Chain Bridge.
And the hotel where he stayed is called H. Kempinski.
And he was walking/running on the Váci street quite a long way with fans around him

cool thanks for that. im gonna have to think of mj when im up at those places. and have a wander to that hotel as im staying pretty near to it.love going to places i know mj has been to and knowing hes seen the same things that your seeing lol. i take it thats heroes square in the teaser where u can see all the statues in that square with the semi circle of wall around them?

btw do u know what area/square it was that was used during the filming. the one that in the making of the video u can see mj and lisa sat together and the crew getting things ready.theres quite afew pictures taken from it with mj in his outfit and lisa with those big sunglasses on

Actually it was edited or there were some big curtains, there are no walls around them. There are some statues of the most important persons (kings, heroes) from our history.

you mean the 56-osok tere? (square?) well since it is next to the Heroes` Square you will see it anyway, it is a very long square, walking around it is not that worth, but u will see it

Castle Hill: well he went there also for sightseeing, to have dinner with Lisa in the Hilton Hotel, and he filmed at the Royal Palace (for example where you can see a big white banner with his eye...that is hanging there.

well when i write Castle Hill i also mean Royal Palace...coz they are on a hill..it is also called Castle District.

also take a picture of the eagle it is also there

you can also go up there by a funicular (which goes from the Chain bridge which is also in the teaser )

it is cool that fans usually visite here these places and are thinking of the teaser i remember sevaral
years ago i visited all these places with a fan from Portugal, he took so many photos everywhere :lol:

the Palace is on the Castle Hill
and the Eagle is also there...a funicular goes up to the Castle Hill from the Chain Bridghe and the eagle is at the station.

the fountain - statue is also at the Royal Palace. But this whole place is not that big, you will find there everything in 10 minute i am sure You can see the Royal Palace even from the other part (Pest) and from all over Budapest (Danube promenade..)
for example here..u can also see the Eagle (right side) and the Palace

ah right. thats why im abit confused cause i didint realise it was called the same thing because in my tour books its basically acts as if its 2 totally seperate places so the pic i posted what end would you say it is at?nearer to the funicular or nearer to the palace?.even though the palace is further down on my map can you easily walk from the top when u get off the funicular (what id call castle hill) down to the palace?

ya if you are planning to to go by the funicular up there the fountain is just 1-2 minute from there: when you arrive, turn left and there will be some stairs going down and then you will see it.

thanks for the info thats great. i know exactly where iam now. looks like my MJ photo spots are gonna be the highlight of my trip. parents willthink im rather strange wanting all these photos of obscure buildings and eagels lol

another MJ sighting place : (well i write about it because i am sure you will walk around there anyway, actually it is not a big thing..just interesting for fans ) so at the Vörösmarty square there will be a Casino and Michael has been there and had "dinner" (well mainly just hot chocolate and cookies) with 100 lucky children who were drawn randomly in September 1996.
(i took also part in the contest, age limit was 16. but was not lucky.lol)

ya sure, it is in Szentendre! Totally forgot to write you to see it also coz i think you will also visite Szentendre, it is a nice little town!
Unfortunatelly the original one was replaced. It was made for the big History album release party here in Budapest and it was the silver one the statue, (inside white chocolate, outside marzipan) and was totally cool! I will try to find a picture of it. And once when i went there few years ago i saw this red...uff i did not like it that much. The man who made it was there and i asked where is the old one? and he told me this is it he just "renewed" it a little :lol: aaaa i was like damn..that one was much better
But it is cool tourist all the time are there like "wow" etc....the museum is full of cool marzipan figures and buildings etc, but tourists like this the most

im coming on the 18th hopefully weather will be good. i was talking to a couple from budapest at work last night bit of a coincidence they were in leeds at a meeting reagarding DNA think they were lawyers. so we had a chat about the city. i was working in our big townhall and they were doing the tourist thing coming for a look

how was the trip?))

hey. im came back friday night 23rd. i had a great time although i hurt my neck pretty bad on tuesday night so i was in alot of pain on wednesday though i still got about to see things. firstly i gotta ask u agnes u werent on the underground on thursday with a mj t.shirt on where you? strange i know but i saw a girl/lady with an mj t shirt with a bad tour picture on it at the station where you get the train to Szentendre,i thought of you straight away lol also i guess u know about them but gotta love all the russian dolls of mj that they sell in the market hall and shops lol

anyway i went to castle hill and took so many pictures where that fountain is where mj was stood in the pics and the big eagle it was so cool being in the same spot as MJ and where it was filmed. castle hill is such a gorgeous area with the cobbled streets loved it. and yes i went to the marizpan museum and took a picture with the MJ figure lol Szentendre is a gorgeous place. when looking for a a restaurant i ended up outside the hotel he stayed at so i took a few pics aswell lol. budapest is really lovely especially down by the river and the chain bridge. heros square was great aswell more pictures taken there. but i couldnt work out where that long bit of road is that u said was next to heros square where some of the teaser was filmed. the road with the park just behind it. i walked onto the bridge where it looks like the river has dried up and has been concreted over but couldnt really recognise the place from the photos u linked to at the begining of the thread..

aswell as the mj things we went all over the place. castle hill onto margarets island then the tram to the top end of the city park. walked through to heros square and back into the centre. that was just one day lol went on a crusie on the river and went in the churches and synogogue to the big market hall and gellerts hill ate lots of ice cream lol one thing though im really surprised at how big the city is. its massive i though it might be quite small in the centre.the public transport and trams are great though. we went down to the parliment but didnt go in. went into the gorgeous liberation square behind the back of the parliment with the russian monument. the buildings are gorgeous. although i couldnt find the post office savings building that looks like its gold. guess its in one of the side streets? st stephens church is amazing inside aswell. so we basically went everywhere as u can see lol thanks for all the advice
