Latoya actually has some nice songs. she doesn't have the greatest voice but neither does janet. the difference is janet has better producers and choreographers and i guess janet sings a bit better.

I guess it's the stupid things she did while married to her evil ex-husband that made her lose some credibility but it's a shame some people don't take Latoya seriously. she did great with the family on their variety show and she had some good songs in the 80's.

She was so absolutely beautiful! That record cover is lovely! I've only heard her sing "Home" and she does a have a sweet delicate voice. Although I cant say I'd buy her music.

Out of all La Toya's albums my favourites are "Startin Over" and her debut "La Toya Jackson"...but heres my take on all of them since I have heard them all..

200pxlatoyajackson.jpg

Her first album ("La Toya Jackson") was good if you are into disco and funk (like me :)...it sounded alot like what the Jacksons were producing in the late 80's...unfortunatley she released it a couple years after that music era was over so it never got picked up by the general public who were moving away from that sound..nonetheless it is a decent album and has good production with contributions by Michael and Janet. (Michael wrote, produced and sung background vocals for "Night Time Lover" and Janet sung background vocals and cowrote for "Lovely is She".)

Her 2nd album ("My special Love") was also fairly decent but still had that soul/funk/disco sound which ppl weren't listening too anymore. Randy and Janet make contributions to the album. Randy on "Giving you up" (which is duet with him) and Janet on "Camp Kuchi Kaiai" (background vocals)

Her 3rd album ("Heart don't lie") was also pretty good. She moved away from the disco sound and ventured into R&B, Reggae and mainstream pop. The best song on that album is probably "Heart don't lie". Marlon, Tito and Janet contributed to the album by helping to produce "Fustration".

Her 4th album ("Imagination") is ok but nothing spectacular. It has that typical 80's synth sound that people were using back then. It wasn't anything innovative like what Michael and Janet were doing at the time. If you like that typical 80's sound then you will like this album. "Baby Sister" actually did pretty well in Japan where she won an award for it.

Her 5th ("La Toya"), 6th ("Bad Girl") and 7th ("No Relations") albums are where her music started to go down hill in my opinion they had poor production and focused alot on her "sex image" (thanks to Jack Gordon who had taken over management from her 5th album onwards...he completley changed her image and sound---that abuser completley cheapened her IMO :(
There are a few good catchy tunes (like the ones listed below) but unless you like that cheesy 90's pop music sound you might not like these albums. I have come to appreciate that "cheesy pop sound" but on first listening it didn't sound so great...

Her next few releases ("Formidable"), ("From Nasville to you") and ("Stop in the name of Love") were also poorly produced (remixed in that cheesy 90's dance pop sound") and contained hardly any new material just covers of country songs ("From Nasville to you") and Motown songs ("Stop in the name of Love") . once again if you are into cheesy 90's pop you might appreciated these albums. The 90's was a period when Gordon took her away from her music and instead focused her on the gossip magazines/TV shows and tabloids ciruit (and we all know this is where she said some negative things about her family under duress and threat of violence from her husband). Luckily she was able to escape him in 1997.

And finally her "Startin Over" album that was announced back in 2002 and still is yet to be released! The album was leaked to the internet in 2006 so she has been forced to re record the album with new songs (hence the lengthy delay of its release.) She is no longer under the control of Jack Gordon on this album and it shows, she wrote and produced almost all of the tracks. She sounds alot more decent and the tracks are much better produced. She is still clearly not as good as Michael or Janet IMO but she is sure alot better than alot of songs that came out around 2002 when the album was first recorded. This is probably her best album to date. She is doing alot of her own song writing and the songs are very autobiographical and talk about domestic violence against women and the hell she went through with Gordon. And of course there is the song "Home" which she wrote for her entire family. Its nice to see La Toya alot stronger. The album is very pop/dance/R&B orientated. Some of the songs there might sound a bit "early 2000ish" because thats when they were recorded. My favourite songs are "Just Wanna Dance" "I don't play that", "Home", "No More Drama" and "Should've left you".

i like songs off of her first 3 albums and then after that when she was married tot hat dude he ruined her by trying to make her into a female MJ and making her look cheap. it was one bad thing after another.

I don't like her music...or even her at all....but I have to say she was one of the most beautiful women in the 80's. I remember when Micheal got his Grammy award she and Janet went up with him, and I couldn't take my eyes off La toya. She was just so stunning...

Gorgeous woman

She still looks good today though.

she almost looks like a COMPLETELY different person now...she was so beautiful before!!! she didnt need any plastic surgery! all the jackson women are beautiful!

still cant sing or act a lick tho :)

I think she's just as good a singer as Janet...Janet just has better production/studio tricks.

That's bullsh*t. Latoya worked with some good producers in the 80's. She was never a good singer to begin with.

and also there's no "studio tricks". Janet is a great singer PERIOD

I do like some of the songs off starting over and I love Home, but I do think Janet has a better voice than her. I think Janet sounds much better live when I saw Latoya on big brother singing wanna' be startin' somethin' it was (I hate to say it) cringe worthy.

Home would be my favourite Latoya song
Together Again or All for you would be my favourite Janet song.

If Janet toured I would probably buy tickets, but if Latoya toured I don't think I would, they are both great though I love them both, they are both beautiful women.

janet is an ok singer. latoya worked with some good producers while janet had some great procers and great videos. it makes a difference

janet is an ok singer.

 I disagree. She's an excellent singer that has weaknesses (just like any other singer) - her voice is meek and light in vocal weight. Songs like "Again","I Know the Truth","The Best Things in Life are Free" etc. prove she's more then an "okay" singer.

latoya worked with some good producers while janet had some great procers and great videos. it makes a difference

Bless your heart!

One doesn't become one of the best selling artist of all time just by having great producers. I will forever fail to see the logic behind this statement people love to leech on to when it comes to Janet. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis weren't on Quincy Jones status when they started working with Janet. They took a chance by working with her and the same can be said vice versa. And also what does having good videos have to do with anything? I honestly believe Latoya just doesn't have "it" reason why her career didn't take off like her other siblings. Hell! She was striving to reach Jermaine's success. Yet failed desperately and before anyone writes off that it was Jack Gordon's fault don't forget that he wasn't managing her before '88. It was Joe. And also Joe's not to blame since Janet had him as a manger too and she had much more success then Latoya at the time.

I agree Janet did have some good producers but you can tell she is talented when she sings live, Latoya sounds ok live but Janet sounds better.

yeah i agree janet. i like janet alot and she is better but she's not a great singer, her voice isn't memorable but her songs and videos are... cause they're catchy and innovative

Real Talk: rebbie shits all over her sisters sanging wise but Janet got hits under her belt as for Latoya she corny, played out washed up and wack sorry for going hard at her 100 people fan base on here but child please know damn well she GARABE the only song I like by her is her new single "home" to me that single sounds all janet Ya'll kill me each time trying to give LaFlopa life BLAH yes I bodied her corny ass>>>>>>>>>>>P.S she was pretty just don't understand why surgery ya self up for what when you already was a beautiful

Latoya's a great artist: just watch her Playboy videos. Amazing!

Yep . Vocally, Rebbie is by far the most talented of the sisters. I wish she had been more driven and focused on her music like Janet is. (But I understand that for her god and family is her lifes focus).

Janets vocie is also pretty good too and she deserves more credit than ppl on this board are giving her. Perhaps coz her vocals are not highlighted in the type of music she's been singing her focus has always been more on her dance than her vocie. Janet also a real knack for writing brilliant catchy songs and producing good vids.

La Toya's voice is ok, but not terrible like some ppl are making out. Vocally I've heard alot worse from ppl who are alot more popular than her. As for her music I've already explained what I think of that in my previous post where I reviewed her albums. Basically b4 Jack Gordon (her first few albums) and after she left Jack Gordon (Startin Over) her music is pretty good (still I don't feel it is innovative as what Michael and Janet have done but it is certainly not terrible). Its just her late 80's and 90's stuff that sounds cheesy to me.

I wonder if the ppl saying that she is terrible have actually listened to all her music to make and objective opinion? She does have some stinkers but there are quite a few that are really good.
