The Jacksons and A.I. (right). It is believed the show will then tour the globe after the Tokyo dates
The Jacksons – brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Jermaine -- will perform on stage next October for a Michael Jackson tribute concert series that starts with two shows in Tokyo.
The announcement of the shows was made via a produced video during a special 10th anniversary performance of Japanese R&B star A.I.
A.I. will emcee the shows and sing with the brothers, her management told CNNGo. She will also be recording new tracks with The Jacksons in early 2011.
日本語の記事を読むためには、ここをクリックしてください。
The project came about after an exchange of letters between A.I. and Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine, following a documentary A.I. had made on Michael earlier in 2010 in which she met his family to discuss the legacy of the late performer.
“I was so excited meeting them and I tried to be calm, but once I got into it, they are so nice that they make you feel right,” A.I. told CNNGo ahead of her Monday Tokyo show at the prestigious Budokan.
“I’d been listening to their songs since I was little but once you start talking with them they make you feel like a friend.“
In her letter to A.I., exclusively revealed to CNNGo, Katherine says “Japan was one of Michael’s favorite places in the world. He loved visiting your beautiful country and always felt much love from his millions of fans.”
“By means of having Michael’s brothers headlining the Tokyo Tribute it would provide Michael Jackson’s followers with a true and complete perspective of Michael’s artistic career and life as a brother.”
The Jacksons, originally the Jackson 5, were one of the biggest music acts in the world in the 1970s and also helped launch the solo careers of Jermaine and Michael.
Following Michael’s death in June 2009, the remaining four brothers recorded vocals for the single, “This is it.” Rumors and speculation of a reunion and tribute show soon followed.
The Michael Jackson tribute shows have tentatively been scheduled for 14th and 15th of October 2011, and will feature a number of special guest performers filling Michael’s shoes in The Jacksons. Full details have yet to be released.
It is believed the show will then tour around the world with different guests in each city, though with A.I. likely at the helm for each.

Making new music

A.I.’s initial contact with the Jacksons had been for a Japanese TV documentary she hosted for Music On! TV, in which she interviewed each member of the family but was surprised to find them so welcoming and modest.
Katherine and Tito watched the show and wrote her a letter of thanks.
“I felt like I didn’t do anything, they had done it for me,” says A.I. “But she thanked me for making a nice show and I knew I had to write something back. I wanted to say ‘thank you, I love you, thank you.’ I was just happy to meet them and let the people know what Michael was like as a person and what is it like inside the family.
“After I did that I listened to more of the Jackson 5 from back in the day. I thought that would be great to sing and dance with the people who were around Michael, especially his family,” she says.
Following the emotional letter exchange, discussions to record songs together soon began with two tracks already on the cards.
“We haven’t talked about the kind of song yet, whether it will be for Michael, or about us but we think it will be nice to have one of the producers that Michael used to work with. We met with Teddy Riley, he’s been making music for a long time, but he also makes current music.”
Despite the aura around the Jackson family, A.I. is keen to let the audience know how the Jackson family really are and get across their true personalities in the shows.
“Every time I see them on TV shows they seem serious but they are actually so cute and I want to tell people that even though they are the Jacksons, everyone’s human and everyone’s got a heart. I think the show in October will be good for people to enjoy music from back in the day and discover the new songs.”

If the new tracks include MJ's vocals, the Jacksons are nothing but hypocrites IMO. They've bashed every MJ project that's come out since his death...saying it was only to make money....looks like they're about to do that themselves.

If they do it without any of Michael's vocals, no problem...but they damn well better not use his voice.

Good luck to them, I guess. but I am not interested.

I am not interested either, not at all. The Jackson 4 and Japanese Lady?? That would be disaster.. It would be better for them to do an album without that girl like 2300 Jackson Street, that wasn't so bad.

Too little, too late in my opinion. They are nothing without Michael anyway. People went to a Jacksons concert to see Michael, he stole the show every time. What now?

The Jacksons still refuse to accept this fact:
Michael Jackson is and was a "SOLO ACT",
AND I THANK GOD FOR THAT.

I'm sure this will go tits up like the other ventures the family have tried to do. In the end of the day they are nothing without Michael.

No really interested either. I guess they're taking advantage of the spotlight they're "enjoying" since last year, to re start their career. Good luck guys. But the Jacksons without Mike... seriously?

I have to agree.. not interested at all

Katherine is trying desperately to get her grown son's a chance to perform. She did it when Mike was here and she's doing it when he's gone.. She pressured Mike to do reunion shows to help out her other sons' now she's using him while dead to help out her sons.

I guess Randy won't be participating in this fiasco

I also wonder if Janet will allow her brother's to join her on her tour next year. Back in 2007-08 wasn't she saying she was willing to open for her brothers and she was having conference calls to get one brother ( Mike) to join but he refused because he wanted to do his own thing? so if she was willing to open for them then, why not now?

I'm sorry. But I just don't care about this. The only one who really mattered to me in the Jackson family was Michael. And he's gone forever when he should still be here. That's all I'm going to say.

Allow me to answer that question for you.
The answer is a big: NO,
Because what's Janet's is Janet's,
only Michael Jackson and his children are required to share
with the entire family.

that's the way it seems doesn't it? But if Janet was willing to 'open' for them 2 years ago, why not now? she should want to help out her brothers financially if she can right?

Actually I am not even sure these concerts will happen. Like a lot of their previously planned projects that were never realized.

I don't follow Janet's career, but did she even have a career two years ago? Of course, she was willing to open for MICHAEL, because he's always been big and that performance could have helped her career. But now she's everywhere, doing films, performing, giving interviews. Do you think she will agree to be an open act for some has-been band no one is interested in? Even if the band is her brothers.

well she should agree to it, because she knows how much they wanted to perform again and besides they could use the money.

I feel sorry for them. All the projects they announce are always D-list. It's like they got all this renewed interest in them, and these are the only projects they can get out of it?

Genevive (Randy's daughter ) is in Japan now and she has been tweeting about see A.I perform last night . I dont know who she is with but I was wondering who was A.I .

totally agree,, they are seriously on the D List. I've never even heard of AI.. I thought they were talking about American Idol honestly until I read further.

It's interesting that Randy never seems to be included in these ventures. I wonder why. The Jacksons keep forgetting that when people bought a Jackson 5/Jackson album they mainly heard Michael's voice, so whose voice are people going to listen for now?

Guys , as long as I remember , on LKL not long ago Larry asked Janet if she was goung to tour again and she answered " No ". And now she confirms her world tour and asks fans to name cities . It's too weird for me and reminds me Michael wnen he said he didn't like to tour and in front of the camera he sad quite the opposite.

2011 is going to be hot for the Jacksons I think.

You couldn't have been more right.........

The only time they really cared for Michael was the few minutes after he passed away.........which was when they were thinking to themselves, "How am I gonna pay my bills?....Who's gonna buy me dinner?"!!!!

For a split second I also thought they were talking about American Idol too. But we should know American Idol wouldn't be caught dead doing anything with the family, sad to say.

First off who is this A.I. ?? And what has she got to do with the Jacksons tour, I don't really see the point in her taking MJ's place but oh well...
how many tributes is Jermaine planning this is what the 3rd and the previous two were cancelled so I don't really see a lot of hope for this to be honest.

But I wish them all the best, I don't think I'll be attending this tour though, but who knows :)
