Fans at the show yesterday are saying that Machelle Obama was actually at the show, quite a few celebrities have been to see this tour.

^^^Michelle wasn't there... The 1st family have been in South America since Saturday

Reports are they came back early, I don't think its true, but a lot of people were tweeting about seeing her there, so who knows.

The Washington Post posted this review of Janet's show in DC:

In concert: Janet Jackson at DAR Constitution Hall

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/clic....9lkJB_blog.html

She didn’t have a dress made of raw meat, an army of pop-locking storm troopers, not even a trapeze. At DAR Constitution Hall on Tuesday night, Janet Jackson had something way better: A guy with a mop.

He dutifully squeegeed the stage during Jackson’s costume changes, soaking up the puddles of sweat that came splashing off the 44-year-old pop star during her 90-minutes on stage.

Go on, Janet. Let ‘em see you sweat. Because in a 21st century popscape where concerts are driven by spectacle, we need to know that beneath all of the sci-fi costumes, strobe lights and Auto-Tune, we’re still witnessing a performance by the living, breathing, profusely sweating human being whose name is stamped on the tickets we just emptied our wallets for.

On the road for the first time since 2008, Jackson’s “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal” tour made good on its title, with the singer delivering a panoply of chart-toppers for a cozy crowd of three-thousand. (She’ll perform at a sold-out Constitution Hall again on Thursday after taking Wednesday night off, presumably to catch her breath.)

Fans knew what they were in for - the hits! - but Jackson kicked things off Tuesday by making some of her sweetest tunes feel severe. Hits a quarter of a century old, including “Pleasure Principle” and “Control,” remain forever fresh, but she played them taut and tough, executing tightly-scripted choreography in a gunmetal bodysuit, her closely-cropped hair slicked back tight against her scalp.

As harsh as it looked, Jackson’s best songs were beams of melodic sunshine twisted into tight, springy coils. “Escapade” and “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”- the twin highlights from her 1989 pop masterpiece “Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814”- managed to keep their carefree charms, even as Jackson delivered them with clenched fists.

In fact, the more blissful the hook, the tighter she wrapped the song around her - somehow squeezing the breezy sensuality out of “That’s the Way Love Goes” without suffocating it. And she danced emphatically throughout.

Cue mop guy. Sweat was pouring off Jackson from the moment her stiletto boots click-clacked on stage. During the opening thump of “Nasty,” she flung her head back, sending a stream of perspiration toward her drummer’s kit. During pillowy ballads “Nothing”and “Let’s Wait A While,” it dripped off her elbows like a leaky faucet.

You couldn’t hear the droplets pitter-pattering onto the stage, but for one of pop’s surviving superstars, the concert still felt incredibly intimate. Last time Jackson was in Washington, she performed at the relatively cavernous (but not quite sold-out) Verizon Center. Since then, the concert industry has gone into a tailspin, with big name artists playing smaller venues on tighter budgets.

That felt evident on Tuesday. Jackson’s back-up dancers were few and not the best, and the outfits looked like a Black Eyed Peas Halloween costume set. (None of it malfunctioned.)

But if you paid to hear Jackson sing, you certainly got that. Not a single word appeared to be lip-synced. And even at its breathiest, that delicate voice hasn’t lost the laser-like precision that seems to be a part of the Jackson family DNA.

This is Jackson’s first tour since her brother Michael’s sudden death in the summer of 2009, but during her mostly banter-less set, she didn’t mention his name. Instead, portraits of big brother and kid sister appeared on large LED screen during the set-closing “Together Again.”

“Everywhere I go, every smile I see, I know you are there smilin’ back at me,” Jackson sang, now clad in white.

With so many people eagerly cashing in on the fallen pop star’s legacy - from the shoddy 2009 concert documentary “This is It,”, to the posthumous leftovers album, “Michael” - it was both a joy and a relief to see someone finally pay tribute to the king of pop with such quiet grace.

There, StacyJ..........;)

For scream Michael sings some of first verse on the screen and then Janet does her first verse while clips of Michael in the video are show. For the tribute during together again she flashes pictures of them on the screen, it's obvious she is singing to him because she looks up to the sky and blows a kiss as the first picture appears and at times she gets choked up it's very sweet. This is not supposed to be a big tribute, other artist do a great job paying tribute by singing an MJ song or mimicking his dance moves but this tour isn't about that, it's about focusing on Janet as a solo artist and her hits. The tribute is minimal but it's very heartfelt and at the show i attended many in the audience got very emotional, it reminds people that Michael Jackson was just her brother not an entertainment icon she is paying tribute for.

You can see the the clips for yourself :)

Janet Jackson gets up close and personal

http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/music/article_ffc2c550-27e1-5dc1-b3e1-db8686bf7fa6.html

Janet Jackson has always come off a little interview-shy, so it was no surprise when she would agree only to an email interview to talk about her tour.

• Why did you decide to do an "Up Close and Personal" tour for the first time, and why now?
I was doing a private date at Radio City Music Hall last year. It was so much fun. I could see everyone in the audience, and all I could think about during the show was this is what I wanted to do for my next tour.

• How does it compare to the arena tours your fan are used to?
The arena tours are fun, but this tour is not about pyrotechnics or other production elements that I have used in my arena tours. This is a much more intimate show. It's just about me and the audience. It is a thank-you for all the fans who have supported me all these years.

• Had you ever wanted to do this before?
Yes, I have. I had thought about it in the past, but I just didn't want to do it until now.

• How did the show change as it moved from overseas to the United States?
I am doing something a little different at all the shows. One of the bigger changes is that we made a few costume changes.

• Were any songs deleted or added?
I am only performing songs that have been No. 1's for me. I have made some changes, but that keeps me pretty set on the song choices.

• Is it true you deleted your classic segment where you seduce a man from the audience?
Is that classic? I guess you will have to come to the show and see.

• How did you go about deciding which No. 1's to include?
Well, I wish I could sing them all, but we would be there all night — not that I would mind. I try to tell a story in each section of the show, and that helps me decide what songs I put in.

• What's your favorite No. 1?
I really can't answer that question. It is kind of like asking which child is your favorite. They are so personal to me.

• Which No. 1 do you consider most personal?
When I create my music, it is inspired by what is going on in my life. Each song reminds me of a special moment that I have lived.

• How does it feel performing "Scream" in concert, and what do you remember most about recording the song/filming the video with your brother Michael?
I love singing "Scream." I remember that, no matter what, I always had my brother's back. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Mike. I miss him very much.

• How do you work (new songs) "Make Me" and "Nothing" into the show, and what went into the decision to include them?
They are my most recent No. 1 songs, so I couldn't imagine doing the show without them.

• Are you working on new music, and what direction do you see yourself heading?
I have never been great at multitasking. I am working on that now. I have had a lot of fun returning to my first love, acting. I wrote a book, "True You," that is a No. 1 New York Times best seller. Now I am on my tour. I am not sure when I will get back into the studio, but it will be later this year. I have some ideas about the direction but I will need to see what I am feeling when I am in the studio.

Very heartfelt :)

Washington Blade:

Janet Jackson brought her sold-out “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour” to D.C.’s DAR Constitution Hall this week for two shows packed with hits from her long career.

She dedicated the song “I Get Lonely” to D.C. and its video played before Jackson, clad in a futuristic cat suit, opened with a barrage of tracks from 1986’s “Control” before segueing into the more recent “Feedback.” The set was spare and the focus was on Jackson’s vocals and her iconic dance moves. The venue was more intimate than in previous tours and Jackson playfully engaged with the crowd throughout the show.

A set of ballads included “Nothing,” “Come Back to Me” and “Again,” and marked the only portion of the show when fans sat down. During one costume change, clips from Jackson’s TV and film roles played to audience cheers.

After the ballads, it was back to dance, with another string of No. 1 hits, including “All for You,” “Escapade” and “Love Will Never Do (Without You).” The crowd erupted again when Michael Jackson’s image appeared on screen and Janet launched into a raucous rendition of the 1995 hit duet “Scream.” She closed with a medley of “Diamonds,” “The Best Things in Life Are Free,” and “Make Me” before performing a poignant “Together Again,” complete with childhood photos of Janet and Michael on video screens.

At 44, Jackson shows no signs of slowing down. She has said she plans to record a new album later this year. The North American leg of the world tour wraps next month and then Jackson heads to Europe.

R&B singer Janet Jackson a welcome sight to fans Friday night at Atlantic City’s Borgata

Welcome back, Janet Jackson.

It's been a little while since Janet (Miss Jackson, as they say, if you're nasty) has embarked on a nationwide tour - and even longer since she's had a hit album equal to her successful run in the 1980s and '90s.

Still, as Jackson, 44, took to the stage Friday night, clad in a skin-tight black bodysuit with slicked back hair to sing her hit "Pleasure Principle," it was almost like no time had passed.

Jackson is in the midst of her 35-city "Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour," which included a two-night stop at Borgata's Event Center Friday and again tonight.

It's easy to forget just how many hits Jackson has - more than 30 global No. 1's - and it was a welcome change to watch an artist perform nothing but them. Jackson, who purposely chose more intimate venues for this tour, seemed to make an effort to keep the focus on the music. It showed, with her voice strong, and, more importantly, all-live (she has taken heat in the past for relying on backing tracks). The stage set was pared down, with just six backup dancers and nowhere near the amount of bells and whistles on her larger world tours of past years.

All of that did make for a bit of a weaker-than-expected opening, however, as the stage choreography - something Jackson is famous for - seemed to initially reflect a singer who has slowed down a bit. Dance sequences for "Control," "What Have You Done For Me Lately," "Feedback" and, yes, "Nasty," were well executed, but simple.

But Jackson delivered on the moves later on, and it was worth the wait.

As the opening guitar riffs of Jackson's '90s hit "If" filled the arena, the energy seemed to instantly change. Jackson performed the classic choreography from the iconic music video - S&M-type moves and all - whipping the crowd into a frenzy. She kept up the pace through classic dance hits such as "Rhythm Nation" and "Scream," the duet recorded with her late brother, Michael.

Slow ballads are often a chance for a bathroom break, but Jackson's classic love songs were well paced and sounded fresh. Her voice sounded surprisingly strong for her hits "Come Back to Me," "Let's Wait a While" and "Again" - which got one of the bigger responses from the crowd.

Considering Jackson's catalog of hits, the show was relatively short - just one hour and 25 minutes - beginning about 50 minutes after the scheduled 8 p.m. start time and ending at 10:15 p.m. But she kept the audience banter to a minimum - just a few shouts to the crowd of "A.C.!" and "Do you want more?" - and took only two brief breaks. Fans were reminded of her acting chops during the first break, as clips from her hit television shows, "Good Times" and "Diff'rent Strokes" played, as well as scenes from past movies "Poetic Justice" and "For Colored Girls."

Jackson ended her show with a moving tribute to her brother Michael, wearing an all-white jumpsuit and singing her hit "Together Again" as family photos of the two of them flashed across the screen. As one particular childhood photo showed Michael and Janet, side by side and smiling, Jackson paused and looked up, eyes closed, seeming emotional.

"I'm not ashamed to tell the world, A.C., I miss you!" Jackson shouted to the cheering crowd.

For this show, it's safe to say the feeling was mutual.

Oh and I forgot to mention Janet will be on BET Monday, and there will be a special announcement. They have not specified that this is a Janet related announcement, but while they were at the at the NYC show they invited Janet fans to appear on the show, and of course Janet herself will be on the show so it could have something to do with her, or nothing at all I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Here's some previews of Janet's interview, backstage in NYC:

Got my tickets for the show in London on 3rd July, in the circle. I'll be there for the 2nd and 3rd July date now
If anyone wants to get tickets for the shows, its pretty much only restricted view for all three shows, but I looked at the photo previews from the Royal Albert Hall for the restricted view area and they all looked fine to me, my tickets for the 3rd show are meant to be restricted viewing, but they look fine :)
