Michael Jackson artwork to be donated to L.A. Children's Hospital

Michael Jackson's mother and three children will present 13 pieces of art created by the late pop legend to Children's Hospital Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.

Artist Brett Livingstone-Strong, a close friend who Jackson once called a "modern-day Michelangelo," offered to donate the pieces to the hospital, hospital spokeswoman Lyndsay LaGree said. Some of the works are signed by Jackson.

The pieces will be unveiled by Katherine Jackson and the singer's three children –- Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket –- at a 2:30 p.m. ceremony at the hospital. Other members of the Jackson family will also be in attendance, along with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, hospital CEO Richard Cordova and trustee Mary Hart.

The artwork will be installed throughout the hospital after an art board determines where the pieces should be displayed, LaGree said.

A children's hospital? I think michael would adore this.

Oh Michael...I miss you

This is a nice idea, but it raises a few questions: will the hospital be able to sell these when it needs to raise funds? Will members of the public be able to see these artworks? (Aside from patients and visitors, hospitals are not usually very happy to welcome 'casual visitors' for security etc reasons....particularly in a children's hospital). I hope that the works will be well looked after..and sited in appropriate places eg protected from full sunlight so that they don't fade, protected from casual / deliberate damage and and fixed securely...they will surely tempt thieves..

This surprises me very much.
Is the owner-question already cleared then?
Can Livingstone-Strong give away something what maybe does not belong to him?
Has Mr. Branca already reacted?

Now this is something that Michael would approve of...and I am proud of Katherine for making this choice....kudos to her. The Childen at the hospital will love it,,:)

that's what I wonder as well but I'm not holding my breath for a response from Estate.

Wasnt there an issue with this artwork the other week and the estate trying to get it back? Call me synical but i smell a play to stop the estate reclaiming the stuff

This seems so strange. We just heard Livingston with a plan of his own in reference to the paintings, and now out of the blue this announcement. Who really owns those pieces Livingston or the heirs? Are they donating lesser quality pieces? I am glad that something is being given to the hospital, but it all seems very strange to me based on the fact that this guy said Michael gave his art to him. Well we will find out more soon.

Then as someone said what about theft. People steal from hospitals all the time, especially medication and supplies. They also steal the art in churches, so I hope there is a way to keep those secure.

@myosotis and @xthunderx2

of course, Michael would smile of this donation to a childrens-hospital!
(just I ask myself, why he himself never came on this idea and rather kept them....)

A hospital for children as a receiver makes every considering difficult: One stands there fast as an inhuman person.

My information is that doubts about the genuineness of this ominous letter from November, 2008 of Tohmé Tohmé existed.
Afterwards I have read nothing more of it. And I also don't know whether there is a statement of Mr. Branca.

Nevertheless, it is my opinion that Livingstone-Strong may not give away something if he is not unambiguously the owner.
Also not if it is a hospital for children.

It is really disagreeable to me to write so....

Personally i think its strong etc getting in first b4 the estate try to get the stuff back.and now the estate will look bad if they try. Hold a p.c put the kids out there.it puts the estate up against the wall

^^MnemeI agree with you. Something is odd, amiss, maybe it is my suspicious nature due to the things that happened to Michael's belongings and him in the past. Also, why are these young children making decisions about their assets/inheritance at such a young age. Are there cases where minors take their inheritance and give away before their reach adulthood. What if when they are older they want to do something differently, like auction some pieces and use the money to build a school? Or any other adult decision. Something is strange. Did I say strange.

The kids havnt made any decision re the artworks.thats p.r.imo If strong owns them legit he can do what he wants with them or if the kids ie the estate owns them they need to be handed over to the estate

How can they do all of this without the Estate? And how convenient to use underage children in this mess. This has been the strategy with the Jacksons and other crooks since day one.Throw the MJ kids in the mix for all dodgy schemes. we've seen this with Melissa Johnson and her fake HTWF. we've seen this with Howard Mann. what's next?

Wouldn't MJ have donated them himself? SMDH

Shouldn't they prove they actually own these pieces? I mean the hospital shouldn't accept these pieces without proof of ownership. They could be stolen arts for Christ's sake.

SMDH at the never ending mess

Very plausible.

And I'm not sure it would be a good idea, even if it was genuine and legal, for all the security reasons myosotis talked about.

Considering how Katherine's and co has used them to give try to credibility to a fake charity and Mann's schemes this actually seems very plausible.

remind me of Their fake heal the world foundation scheme

So hear we go again. Everytime we see/hear Katherine in a scheme with the children we have to say "oh no, not again." Why does everything have a sneaky motive attach to it!!!!! You guys are right: the belts, the charity, now the paintings. I am getting really tired of this.

I won't be surprised if the Estate claims those items back. This is theft. plain and simple. The children are being used as always. They have no idea of what is going on. It's their inheritance that is at stake here.

Aw, this really touches me because when I was only two I spent a week in the Los Angeles Children's Hospital, and I remember feeling so alone and afraid while there because no one I knew was there who loved me...only strangers all around me, poking at me, etc. It was so hard to understand. I not too long ago was thinking about how MJ would visit little ones in hospitals all over the world, and thought if he could have come to my hospital crib and picked me up and gave me one of his loving and kind smiles how it would have calmed me.

So how special that some of his artwork he owned may rest on the walls where children might, like me, so many, many years ago, feel alone and scared. Maybe it will bring some comfort to them and their visiting siblings, parents, relatives, and for that matter, the hospital staff who work so hard to heal and help children. :)

What this tells me is that when the estate asked for all Michael's possessions to be brought in after his death, a lot of people kept things claiming Michael gave it to them. Even Bush kept a jacket which he claimed Michael gave him. I think Michael gave him to use as a model for another jacket. Well they believed him.

They could contact the hospital quietly.

Michael already left 20% of his estate to charity. His art shouldn't be given away by people who have no say in his estate.

Last time I read it, MJ clearly stated the kids should be 18 before they can have a say & 30 & up before they can get control.

This is beyond pathetic.

I am not sure if stealing from MJ kids to donate to children hospitals is a good idea. These items belong to the Estate and should be returned to them. Some day the MJ kids will inherit them and so may choose to do as they please with them.

Hey, what happened to the MYSTERY BIDDER that we read about a few weeks ago?

This, of course, is a wonderful gesture, but I smell a rat!

Instead of trying to sell this collection a few weeks ago, why didn't the "donate 13 pieces to a children's hospital" go into effect in the very beginning.

If I recall correctly, there was a DOWNPAYMENT in place and the deal would be sealed once the letter from Thome-Thome was verified and the Estate of Michael Jackson signed off. (For those who don't know, Brett Strongstone claimed that he received a letter from Thome-Thome stating that Michael wanted Strongstone to have the collection.)

I wholeheartdly agree with those of you who are calling this MOVE into question.

AND if Strongstone is donating THIRTEEN PIECES to the children's hospital, where is the rest of the collection?

I trust NONE of them and unfortunately, that includes Mrs. Jackson!

^^That is what is having everyone questioning the move. Only a few weeks ago there was another plan. Did they guy get back his downpayment? I wonder if Katherine was aware of this other plan. It seems people can tell her anything and she goes with it. I wonder if Brett gave her some money?

LOL!

Since Katherine Jackson is about to be a part of ANOTHER press conference, maybe she will find the time to give an UPDATE regarding the "Tribute Concert" she recently endorsed.

Oh..I see now this is THAT art work..the one we heard so much about before....thank you for clarifying that....See I knew it was to good to be true....something GOOD happening in MJ's name for a change....so Katherine fails again and drags the children in the middle of it AGAIN. Blah,,,

Personally i think its strong etc getting in first b4 the estate try to get the stuff back.and now the estate will look bad if they try. Hold a p.c put the kids out there.it puts the estate up against the wall

I agree....but it is interesting (and positive) that the hospital has accepted these artworks. I hope there will be no controversy that the hospital has accepted these and will display them.... such controversy could create damaging p.r. and re-open old arguments.

They where trying to sell it and now want to give it to charity instead of giving it to the MJ estate? They would do anything to get a leg up on them it's seems? lol It's like if they can't have it then they won't either, that's the game The Jacksons like to play! And they really need to stop using the kids as if the kids came up with that idea...? I doubt it! It's more that they were just told by Grandma and they just go along with it because they love her.
