Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael"/ Excerpt @pg151/New Interview Post 3743

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

Why did Frank put it in the book if he isn't 100% certain that Michael was using Propofol in 1999? Did he say that he was uncertain in the book or just the GMA interview? If he put it in the book as a fact when he wasn't sure I think that was unfair.

He says the first time he heard of Propofol was after MJ died. So obviously, he is just assuming, both in the book and interview, that this is what MJ *may have* used. And this garnered so many negative headlines that "MJ was using Propofol in 99", when he doesn't know that for a fact.

Honestly, if MJ didn't tell him that or he didn't see it, he shouldn't have put it in there, knowing that this is what the media will zero in. He spared the Jacksons by not mentioning their f***ry before the MSG shows, he should have extended the same courtesy to MJ and spared him this additional negative publicity. Why can't people be smart about this? I don't mind him making money, but for God's sake, at least try not to add to the tarnishing of his image. I guess this is too much to ask from family and friends.

I understand that his intention was to clear things up, but the result was the complete opposite. He played right into the media's hands. And after so many years around Michael, this is inexcusable.

Why can't people be smart about this?

Yes. :fear: This is very complicated issue when it comes to MJ. You can not expect perfection from some people about it. They go around talking, talking, talking and do not realize the way they are counting things and then everything turns what we are seeing: a complete mess.

Frank is on Dr. Drew right now!

Onion16.gif

No one told him it was propoful. he was saying he never heard of propoful untill Murray and then he thought back to that night and wondered if that what the Drs were doing that night to put MJ to sleep. he didnt realise it then but now he questions if that what they were doing. I think this has been stated many times in this thread. but I know its a looooooong thread. I would have questioned it too after learning MJ used it to sleep. It haunts him in a way to think about it. He did say MJ was in great pain after that fall and needed meds and he trusted the doctors then . but now he wonders ? I would too (Im thinking he may have seen MJ hooked up to saline bag and drs giving him meds) maybe thats why he questions that night. I dont know why he questions it but he does. It concerned him now that he knows what he knows about propoful. I hoped that helped LOL Im confusing myself

Well, it seems that he mentions propofol in the book, I read about it. Or maybe I'm going crazy and did not read right. :p

I think Frank is going to be on Dr. Drew in a few minutes. He just showed the pictures in Frank's book and said who was michael jackson? coming from an assistant. I think it's him.

Jesus lord, the very damn last person I hoped he would not let interview him. This is all gonna be about drugs, drugs and more drugs, Dr. Drew's favourite topic when it comes to Michael Jackson. I'm gonna pass on watching it, just tired of being upset these days.

That interview with Frank and Dr. Drew didn't go so well. I don't like Dr. Drew.

I expected that.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

Serendipity I agree with you. From the summaries it seem that Michael told Frank a number of things. Frank drew his own conclusions about what these meant and shared in his book. Additionally, he saw some things, which he interpreted one way when he was younger. Now that he heard certain information from people, he is interpreting what he saw in a different way to coincide with other people's stories. He admits he did not see certain things himself, but based on what others say or what he learned from the Muarry incident, he believes XYZ. This book should be called "What I think About My Friend Michael."

Marebare I am not surprised that you felt the interview did not go well. Remember this is Drew who always saw Michael as an addict. He will push his agenda no doubt and I do not know if Frank is prepared to deal with him.

No he wasn't prepared. He seemed frustrated that he was getting cut off or the things Dr. Drew was trying to imply about Michael.

And I say: Frank knows this for sure, what is he doing there? Frank will have a difficult time with this guy. I see that many people will do interviews about Michael and are completely unprepared, do not say anything clearly and how it should be said. The result: a complete disaster.

Ash this is what I do not understand. I thought when people went on a show they looked at some taped episodes by the interviewer to see the person's style and focus. Also, I thought people would prepare certain answers in their heads once they view the interviewer's style and focus, so they could deal with any questions coming their way. It seems a lot of these book authors have not been doing this, and get flustered when they go on these shows. They should know that Drew would interrupt because he wants his biased view to remain in the mind of the audience. These are typical tricks of these types of hosts. It is really a pity, because more people look at tv than will buy this book.

What puzzles me is why would Frank go on an addict show to promote his book. To me, this should be the last place he went to. What do you think?

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

I refuse to call Drew Pinsky doctor. This idiot said Michael's lung issues were caused by prolong period of propofol use. Utter bullshit. I really can't stand HLN.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

The point is to promote the book to get people to read it. The best way to do that is the highest and viewed shows. He want people to read the story for themselves. The publishers sets up these Interviews - But frank is not a celebrity or used to being interviewed. Hopefully after Dr Drew he will get more prepared. I just dont think he is cut out for these interviews. He is very shy.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

He did try to put in a good word for Michael but in the end Dr, Drew got exactly what he wanted. Maybe others who want to see it will think differently but for me sorry I didn't like the interview and glad it was not too long.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

Does he say he realizes now that he witnessed Propofol use or does he say he thinks that it was Propofol in 1999?

he realizes now.

I think when you read it it's like he sees a doctor to come in with 2 other doctors, setting up equipment to help Michael sleep. He realizes today and thinks that it was Propofol. Later an anesthologist also tells him that he's put Michael to sleep and ease him out of it. He now realizes that it was Propofol. I mean it's like description of how you give Propofol fits to what he has seen.

I'm curious, does Frank mention his appearance on Oprah (along with the rest of his family) in which they all denied ever knowing or witnessing there being an issue with drugs?

He says his family didn't know and didn't see it. He also says in 2007 when Michael stayed with them there was no issues and he didn't even drank alcohol.

Also, I am expecting that the penn comment is not for me since I have not been talking about penn today.

nope it was a general warning. I just didn't want to double post.

That interview with Frank and Dr. Drew didn't go so well. I don't like Dr. Drew.

Honestly he's not really good at interviews. He was stumbling on GMA as well. I suppose you are right he's not used to being under the spot light.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

I think tomorrow's Q&A will be a lot easier for him to do, it's a lot less pressure than going on TV. HLN's hosts tend to be on the pushy side for sure. -_-

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

I have to say that I felt bad for him. It seemed to me that whenever he tried to explain or discuss further it didn't matter to Dr. Drew. Dr. Drew comes off like he is right, you are wrong and then says see I told you I was right. He can never be wrong?

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

One can't go in clueless when you're dealing with people like this, gotta be prepared. But I don't see why Pinsky's show was so necessary anyway.

I'm sure it was'n,t but it was the MOST IMPORTANT to HIM and thats why Frank would'nt have stood a chance.

I know that people want to go on shows that have high ratings, but if a particular book will not be pushed appropriately on a show with high ratings, then what is the point in going on that show. Well let's hope this is a learning experience for him for the next interviews.

Those tweets there they go again with those vague claims that they are going to do something on another day to set every thing straight. Reminds me of Randy, Latoya, Jermaine also. Now I am waiting to see what that great event will be.

I always wonder this.

Re: Frank Cascio "My Friend Michael" book release date Nov 15 ,2011 / Excerpt posted at @pg151

well all I can say is that if Frank is not the interview type then he should not be doing them. A person needs to be on their toes when they are being interviewed by a person such as Drew,,,his motive is one thing,,,and that is to get everyone and anyone that he can get on his show to say that Michael was an addict, And if Frank was not aware that this is the way that Drew works,,,then he should of done his homework and found out just HOW Drew stood on the subject of MJ, Maybe he will learn from this and he will be better prepared for the next talking head that wants him to say somthing about Michael that he doest want to,,,otherwise,,,what good is him going on these shows if he cannot take a stand and CLEARLY stand by his opinion about Michael.

In general I don't know whether I should support those books written by his family/friend. It feels like invading MJ's privacy. However, I have to say this one is way better than Jermaine or LaToya's. The one thing I like about the book is that Frank didn't give you a fixed story. For the things he told you. He would wrote this is what MJ told him. This is what he thought at the time. This is what he thought now. This is what his parent thought. I think people would all have different opinion to the same thing and people see things in different way. The reader can make their own judgement for those stories. It's not like other MJ-related books always wrote the stories like it's what really happened like the writer put camera or bug on MJ. In general, I do like lots of stories shared by Frank. How MJ taught them homework, show them the beauty of nature etc. Although I don't all agreed with Frank's comment about MJ. But hey, it's his opinion and he actually know the man. He also did told u that it's his opinion. I think it's so far the best family/friend written MJ book since MJ passed away.

5.0 out of 5 stars MJ in NJ?! Surprisingly great glimpse into the personal life of a legend, November 16, 2011

By Ingrid - See all my reviews

This review is from: My Friend Michael: An Ordinary Friendship with an Extraordinary Man (Kindle Edition)

I started reading this book expecting to dislike Frank Cascio. I assumed he was just trying to make money off his supposed "friendship" with Michael Jackson. I almost decided against the book when I read newspaper articles about it. I'm glad I didn't. This book ended up being absolutely fascinating.

Can you imagine being a teenager and having Michael Jackson over to your house for dinner? Can you imagine going to school every day, listening to all of your friends talking about Michael Jackson, and knowing that he's actually sitting on the couch in your living room waiting for you to get home? Not quite sure how Frank managed to stay quiet all of these years. I can assure you that if Michael Jackson had been over to my house, the entire school would have known about it.

This book is filled with cute anecdotes and stories. Things like Frank and Michael feeding Starburst candies to the elephants at Neverland. Walking around Times Square late at night, with a disguised Michael, while a street performer did a Moonwalk before them. Late night stories about Madonna trying to seduce Michael. Stories like these seem to give insight into Michael as we've never seen him before. (Personally, I never would have guessed that Michael's shyness would be the source of so much of his behavior.)

The book talks a bit about the charges against Michael and some drug use, but that's definitely not the focus. This is a book about an unusual relationship. Why did the King of Pop feel most comfortable with a family in suburban New Jersey? This man seemingly had it all, yet it seems that the Cascios were able to provide with him with a sense of peace that he didn't feel anywhere else. When times were tough, they seemed to be first ones to have his back. To me, it seems like this book is Frank's attempt to continue protecting Michael just as he did when Michael was alive. He managed to let me, for a few hours, forget all about the media circus and remember the man that made me want to make the world a better place - and dance all over my parents' house.

This book is AMAZING!!! I found this book to be a beautiful story about humanity and friendship. It is very apparent that the author wrote this purely out of love for his friend. Any mention of his medication use is minimal and the true focus is on the lifelong friendship and reality of Michael's life. I highly recommend this book and found it very heartfelt and enlightening. A must read!

This is a book I was waiting for. Huge thank you Mr. Cascio for bearing the burden of writing this amazing book. A very honest, straighforward account of some dramatic events all through the eyes of a teenager, same age as most of Jackson`s fans were at the time when those events took place. No matter what the press says, no matter how some "fans" will try to undermine the author this book is the one that had to be written and had to be written the way it is. I am so thankful Mr. Cascio for writing this, now many people who just did not have the courage, strenght to mourn can do so, put the past behind them and move on with their lives. And for fans, this is a must read. I cannot think of a better book to show the "other Michael" the human being through some happy stories and some not so happy ones. As at the end of the day, we are all human.

P.s.There is however one particular topic, secret which I would have left out of the book - but at least now that one is also out, I hope it is not going to cause to much headache...

Here is a friend of Michael selling out his deceased friend in the name of money. If you are a fan of Michael, you wouldn't buy this tripe.

Cascio doesn't have many new things to add, and he focuses on Jackson's drug use rather than on his musical genius, charitable work or anything good.

I will return this book first thing tomorrow morning. Waste of time and money. This so-called friend would be better off selling Michael Jackson's corpse. With friends like him, who needs enemy. Reading the first few chapters, I kept wondering what would Michael Jackson think. Would he feel betrayed? overwhelming sadness? or plain numbed from yet another backstabber.

I think at this point, this would have been a deja vu. Just another leech using his ONCE close relationship to make a few bucks.

Extremely disappointed with this book.

I was hoping to find a revealing, warmly told story about the last 25 years of Michael's life and his friendship with the Cascio's. Instead this story is just wrought in constant angst and tragedy, and the end result just leaves you feeling bruised not quite understanding Michael at all.

The highlights are the talk of the allegations where Frank reveals his actual first hand insight into what really happened (nothing), and what Michael was like to the kids he was around (friend, mentor, father figure) and also the insight into Michael as a father.

The other stuff makes me just wonder how much he really knew about Michael and if he felt some kind of resentment about him in some way. Maybe all of the infighting with Michael's employees and Frank being cut out still stings him. Maybe the Cascio tracks fiasco still stings him (I do believe it is MJ on the songs).

Either way, the impression makes me wonder what the intent of writing this was.

I felt the title "friend" was almost ironic about half way into it, were you really a friend to him Frank? It didn't feel like that for a lot of the time.

Not a book for the fans and not one I will want to reread.

I recommend LaToya's original memoir "Growing Up In The Jacksons", Jermaine Jackson's biography, "You Are Not Alone", and Aphrodite Jones' "Conspiracy" about the allegations instead, if you want an insight into who Michael was.
