Michael's mom reported missing /Grandma's Home/TJ appointed Co/Guardian with Katherine

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

Hm. I'm not convinced with this. I mean, what exactly is strange about being worried about a will? It's usually something you look into right away (among with insurance). And didn't Michael remove Branca as his lawyer just a little before he died?

Can't BAD25 be released without all these distractions. It seems that everytime there is a Michael Jackson music release there is a major distracting controversy....I used to look forward to the missing masters being found and released, but now I don't know.

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

Sony is Michael Jackson's long time recording company, and Sony is one of the few record companies still making money.
So, no, it is not "wierd" that the MJ Estate is doing business with Sony.

Why worry about the Will if the Lawyer on retainment off and on for more than 25 years has told you that it is in his office and he will make it available as soon as he is back in the USA and he has told you when he will be back. An no Michael did not remove him just before he died.

Because it's Michael Jackson's will and he had some very shady people around him :(

Supposedly he was rehired 7 days before he passed- does anyone have a copy of the rehire letter?

He did have very shady people around him & he tried to get rid of them.

I do not believe Branca was fired in 2006 - he was bought out.

Branca was fired in 1990 according to this & came back in 1993 after the allegations for 5% of the catalog:
http://www.mail-archive.com/medianew.../msg09701.html

Branca structured the ATV acquisition and continued to represent Jackson,
negotiating sponsorship deals that were then some of the richest in
history. But in 1990 Jackson cut his ties to the attorney at the urging of
other advisors. Jackson dismissed Branca by passing a note to an associate
that said, "Tell John Branca and Karen a paralegal I'm sorry and I love them."

Within three years, Jackson was in a downward spiral. In 1993, around the
time he publicly sought treatment for addiction, Jackson offered Branca 5%
of his future projects if he would again represent him. Branca began
increasing ATV's holdings by acquiring the copyrights of Elvis Presley
songs and such tunes as "Great Balls of Fire," "When a Man Loves a Woman"
and "Love Train."

Branca was fired in 2003, he came back in 2004 with Malnik & Koppelman to help MJ refinance

Branca firing in 2003:
Jackson Fires Longtime Lawyer, Adviser

Jackson Fires Longtime Lawyer, Advisers
There is chaos in the world of Michael Jackson. On Monday he fired his longtime adviser and attorney John Branca. By fax, of all things.
For Branca, the sudden news came just as Jackson's manager, Trudy Green, left the singer. Last week, Jackson also fired his longtime accountant, Barry Siegel, as well. (All parties declined to comment.)

Branca was there at that meeting in 2004 - he was working with Koppelman & Malnik to get a refinancing on atv cat with Goldman Sachs which would include some sale of sony cat:
http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB1118...bHuGca2Fm4.html

The list with the names of people conspiring against MJ having to do with the Sony atv catalog that was announced by Carol Angela Davis was on April 4, 2005. list: John Branca, Al Malnik, Trudy Green, Howard Kaufman, Charles Koppelman, Tommy Motolla, Brett Ratner. In the thread Filmaking states that except for Motolla they are close to Konitzer & Wiesner. Not sure if that is accurate. Since Branca was on the list in April 2005, he must have been out of Mj circle by then.

http://www.mjj2005.com/kopboard/index.php?...0green&st=0
on other boards too, but this was a good thread

The names came up again in Aug. 2006 as Bain made the announcement of people conspiring against MJ to make him bankrupt.

http://www.mjj2005.com/kopboard/index.php?...green&st=40

As far as I can tell Branca was only involved with MJ in 2006 to sell the 5% interest Branca had back to MJ. I think I recall in Joes filing Branca rec'd $15 million plus. In this article it says it was as much as 20 million:

http://www.johnbranca.com/pdf/john_b...s_sony_atv.pdf

Another beneficiary of the agreements is Los Angeles music attorney John Branca, who has been alternately embraced and spurned by the mercuial
Jackson throughout much of the singers career. Branca helped structure Jackson's purchase of the Beatles and others copyrights in 1985 for $47.5 million.
Today, those assets are worth more than 10 times that, and sources say Branca, who owned 2.5% of the Sony/ATV venture, has aleady pocketed as much as $20 million when Jackson bought out his share as part of Thurday's refinancing agreement.

links:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,201294,00.html

There is also a $25 million lien against it held by Fortress Investments, created so Jackson could buy out his former attorney, John Branca, from a five percent interest in Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Branca was no friend of MJ - the PI Branca hired via Wolf was Paul Barresi, he told us in his 3 part series with DD which is on MJEOL.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,58153,00.html
When Schaffel was "rubbing people the wrong way" last fall, Branca called Brian Wolf at that firm, and Wolf sicced a private eye on Schaffel to get the goods. When the P.I. turned up the news that Schaffel made adult videos, another firm stepped in. That was the one run by Zia Modabber, another celebrity defender.

Everyone in the chain has a purpose. The only one not always in lockstep, unfortunately, is Michael Jackson.

again probate documents aren't available on the online court system plus multiple redaction and sealing is in place in the probate. So "anyone" wouldn't have it unless they made in person requests for it. The media also hasn't posted it.

But Branca is being rehired is actually a fact that can be seen from Joe Jackson's objection for Executors

it says "on July 6, 2009 Branca presented this court a 2 page business plan Michael Jackson signed on June 17, 2009 one week before his death where Michael Jackson purportedly hired Branca as his attorney".

Thanks Ivy, I should go review that. Do you have a link? I do agree with Joe, Branca did not get rehired - someone forged Michael's signature. Roger Friedman, not a great source I know, said that his signature had been forged before.

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

I think it has been said that Michael did not knowingly give Branca the 5% interest, it was hidden in a contract- I have not seen proof.

Branca is shady as well as the rest of them.

JB was re-hired a week before MJ died.

JB single handily built MJ empire over the past 30 years. This is what he's done for MJ.

He negotiated the highest royalty rates (25%) for MJ, making MJ the best paid musician on the planet.
He negotiated the purchase of ATV for 49.5m in 1985.
He negotiated the purchase of Neverland in 1989.
He renegotiated MJ contact with Sony in 1991 to a tune of $1B, convering music, merchandising, and movies.
He negotiated the merger of Sony with ATV in 1995, with MJ pocketing 95m to create SONY/ATV as the 3rd largest music publisher.
Just recently he negotiated the acquisition of EMI publishing, with MJ having a stake in the publisher through SONY/ATV. This makes SONY/ATV the largest music publisher in the world. This also makes MJ Estate the largest private publisher on the planet.
he renegotiated MJ debt in 2009 to extremely low interest rates, allowing the Estate to save on interest.
He's now co-running the Estate as co-executor and is on track to clear MJ debt and bring the Estate to absolute profitability.
He's busy fighting the leeches that are Melissa Johnson(fake heal the word foundation), Howard Mann, and Tohme Tohme, ensuring that MJ assets don't end in the wrong hands and therefore go towards their rightful owners ie MJ3.

This is the kind of person I would kill to have in my company any day. JB is a prolific business man/attorney who's highly respected in show business. His track record speaks for itself.

What have Randy, Janet, Rebbie and Co done for MJ? Just give me one example.

Janet and co are wasting their time. for Janet, it's about making sure her jobless siblings don't come knowing at her door for free handout. so she's redirecting them to the Estate.
Randy wants to remove the executor by invalidating the will. why? so he or any family member can be named as executor. This way he gets control of MJ money. and by the time MJ3 become adults, there won't be anything left for them due to poor management.

This how the Jack$ons operate. they feel this irrational sense of entitlement towards MJ money.

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

Supposedly he was rehired 7 days before he passed- does anyone have a copy of the rehire letter?

That's almost insulting really. why would JB give anyone his contract?

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

Michael's estate is worth a billion? And we are suppose to believe their actions are not about the money? The executors deal with money, the guardians deal with money so any which way you look at it money is involved. If they have real evidence then take it to court. Otherwise i wish they would shut up already. Sorry if I come across rude but I am tired of hearing about this. The courts already looked at the concerns that they mention now and still said the will was valid.

Joe challenged it with the same concerns and told he had no legal standing and the will is valid. What makes them think they can do what Joe couldn't? Because she is janet Jackson or what? I am just guessing her reasons to be in this. Not wanting to pay for the family the way Michael did, her love for Randy, or maybe she believes it's fake. Who knows but they have to stop because they are alienating the kids with this. They come across as greedy not loving siblings. I can be open minded but I need to see the proof. The world needs to see the proof of why the will is fake and why the executors are fraud. Otherwise enough already.

If katherine and TJ have the final say who comes to the house well then why don't they change the list already? Katherine and the kids live very comfortably. Don't have to worry about anything and the estate is almost out of debt in just 3 years. How is the estate doing a bad job with that? If something isn't right the kids and Katherine can go to the courts and complain and they haven't done that.

I want to look forward to Bad 25. Maybe that sounds selfish of me but this I have had enough of and look forward to something positive.

John Branca never publicly supported him in 93 that I recall nor in 2005. After he died, he never said he believed Michael Jackson was an innocent man. If he did I missed it. He did not ever pay his respects after he passed.

He had numerous conflicts of interest when he worked for Michael in regards to Sony. Michael did not hire John Branca back.

John McClain also has conflicts of interest:

Ivy, I have a question. When Prince turns 18 isn't he then allowed a more say so in the estate and its executors? If true maybe that is why they are moving so fast because in 3 short years Prince will be 18 and they won't be able to say a thing!

I think it has been said that Michael did not knowingly give Branca the 5% interest, it was hidden in a contract- I have not seen proof.

Branca is shady as well as the rest of them.

You'll see that in Joe Jackson's document it will say " Michael Jackson signed various attorney retainer agreements with Branca in 1993 through 1998" . When you look to the documents in Exhibit E, you'll see multiple documents that reference the 5% fee. It's obvious that Branca got 5% for every thing he brought in (just like his Executor position) and for the services he provided.

So unless the claim is Michael was an idiot and he didn't understand what he signed for years, he knew that he was paying Branca 5% for his work.

Plus this 5% fee is very common place in the business. Michael's old managers Demann, Tohme and Bain all showed agreements with higher percentages.

Oh and a tidbit:

Just because Oxman - who is disbarred for many reasons including lying on court documents as well as mishandling an estate - claim unethical conduct and conflict of interest it doesn't mean it's true.

For example given the fact that Branca had 5% share in Sony/ATV, with his decisions related to sony/atv he couldn't hurt Michael without hurting himself as well, similarly he couldn't bring benefit to himself without bringing benefit to Michael. Conflict of interest happens when you have well "conflicting" interests. If one person's benefit or loss is tied to the another, it's not really a conflict.

To answer your question : People get percentage of the deal they bring in. That's why Bain and Tohme had asked for millions of dollars on TII as they claimed to be an important part of that deal. Everyone knows that Branca was the one that did the Sony/ATV deal. There's nothing surprising that he got 5% on it.

I feel the same way about Michael's family. I recall few of them speaking out in his defense. Showing up in court was one thing, but some of them were pitching a reality TV series about their support of Mike in 2005 during jury deliberations, so I'm not sure how selfless that was. I can't remember Janet saying anything publicly and I remember one interview with Rebbie where she only wanted to defend herself/talk about how she had been affected.
^Randy jackson not randy phillips.

@ivy - it was a matter of hours between trying to hijack the estate and branca coming round for a pre-arranged meeting to read the will??! Good grief. What with rummaging around carolwood looking for cash and getting all lawyered up to take over mj's estate and joe advertising his new record company which would doubtless release all those mj tracks in the vault, the jacksons were sure busy in those few days after 25 june. i guess it was their way of channelling their grief. As janet did say at bet, 'to you he was an icon, to us he was family'.

I remember all the stories about rummaging around for cash seeming just like another media BS thing back when I heard them, but now I'm curious. Can anyone post the stories from back then about the family looking for this money?

Re: Michael's mom reported missing /TJ temp Guardianship/Grandma's Home

Since this event started people asking "why, what is the motive?" and here's a take about it

so then why? Well a negative PR campaign can also be a tactic of bullying and blackmail and extortion. ( As Katherine's disappearance perfectly lines with the first letter, I tend to believe that it was all planned to leak - by Jacksons). Similar to how Michael's insurance settled with Chandlers to make them go away, this could all be a play to get Executors say "what do you want? okay here it is. now go away".

I really doubt this will work for Janet and co. so far the backlash has been so bad that the other siblings threw in the towel while Janet and co only felt compelled to do some damage control, hence the latest press release. and in spite of the latter, the public isn't buying into her words. it's too obvious what they are trying to do. The executors don't have much to worry unless Janet and Co can find some real dirt to blackmail them with.

On the other hands, Janet has put herself in a corner by burning bridges with people (Branca & Mclain) with strong and powerful connections in the industry. yes, she's a millionaire. but at 46, her career is almost dead as we speak and it will take substantially more than press releases to revive it.

I can't remember Janet saying anything publicly and I remember one interview with Rebbie where she only wanted to defend herself/talk about how she had been affected.

I remember all the stories about rummaging around for cash seeming just like another media BS thing back when I heard them, but now I'm curious. Can anyone post the stories from back then about the family looking for this money?

Michael had so many so-called friends screaming for media attention and creating chaos in the days and weeks after his death it was hard to know what was true. Grace had said in an interview that some family members were yelling at her and demanding to know where the money and jewelry were that should have been in the house. They were also demanding to know which computer had the masters he was working on during the last year or so. The sisters supposedly cleared out the house the night of his death, but I thought that was odd because I thought the police needed to be there, but at that time his death was not considered a criminal investigation. I also remember LaToya insisting in interviews that she did not keep the computer with the Masters on it, but didn't know where it was. By the way, most of the articles Roger Friedman wrote about Michael's finances from 2005-2009 were not the least bit accurate, only time he was close to accurate was with nasty gossip about personal information that was sold to him.
