Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

I'm religious and I'm anti-abortion although that is not strictly connected with religion. I agree that it is a very complex matter now, as it was back in 1986. But I don't think that he sings from his point of view in Abortion Papers. And I don't think we'll find out his opinion about the matter in this song.

With that being said I'm not impressed with the snippet, the vocals are amazing as always. It clearly sounds like a demo and less finished than some other songs. But of course we'll have to wait for the full song to come out to judge.

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

You can either agree or disagree on Michael's stand in the song. No biggie. I don't know why people get so worked up over these sort of things. Freedom of speech and they ain't forcing you to think their way. It's just one opinion. Me... I'll just be listening to hear if it's good or not. I'd be pissed off if we never got to hear it because it was deemed "too controversial". Put it out and let the people decide whether they want to listen or not. Some will, some wont. Simple. I'm for women's rights to have abortions, but I won't let that affect my opinion on the song.

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

WOW !!!

Sounds great.

Re: BAD 25 MJ Demo's unreleased and unheard studio songs [Discussion thread]

I'm listening the new snippets the whole day, but nothing can beat Al Capone. That chorus is so catchy it won't come out of my head. Price of Fame & I'm So Blue are great too.

0.14-0.29 from Al Capone reminds me of 1.32-1.53 from Chaka Khan's 'Aint nobody'.

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

I love Free, MJ's voice is heavenly. Reminds me abit of Best Of Joy which is another favourite of mine. Abortion Papers & So Blue sound great too

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

Did someone got the lyrics of the Abortion Papers snippet? I can't fully understand what he's saying.

I'm not surprised that Michael was against abortion, indeed I would be kinda shocked if he wasn't against. But I can understand why he didn't released this song, this subject remains controversial to this day.

If when they decide to release the Live album as a stand alone release they'll make it 2 Discs with the full show

In my opinion all the new songs could have been on Michael!

Al Capone, PoF, I'm so Blue, Free and abortion Papers sounds great!!

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

He says, 'what about love' a lot i think, and on the chorus he goes 'those abortion papers, signing your name against the word of god'. The rest i either can't make out or seems irrelevant to the idea of it being controversial.

Nah it's not that at all, for me at least, if Michael was against abortion and that's what the song portrays, then i have no problem in the world with that, as i don't really believe in god all that comes into it, is a general moralistic and scientific debate for me, i would respect his views even if they were different to mine, i can sometimes be against it if i don't feel the circumstances merit the decision like the mother or father literally can't be arsed with a baby, but i'm for it in tricky situations such as rape, or a dire situation which would mean the set up available is not even close to adequate to bring a baby into the world, whatever that may be, and i'm totally for the man and woman's right in having a say on their child in regards to abortion. But what i'm more worried about is what it could do to Michael's rep, he will always get hate we all know that, but i don't want a huge religious name as the next name thrown at him, i'm surprised they haven't tried a religious attack on him before (other than that jesus bullshit) so i don't want them to now, that's all it is for me :)

Like Michael Said, "I don't sing it if I don't mean it" That goes for every single one of his songs.

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

I think full Abortion Papers will be intresting.

I don't know what is my favorite song! lol... They are all perfect!

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

It's not fair, nor realistic to judge these demo's in depth.

They were written a long time ago and weren't meant to be released for whatever reason. Maybe Michael thought the time wasn't right or maybe the right time for the songs had already passed or maybe the right time would never come. The Estate decided to release them, not Michael.

I'm in no way against discussing these demo's, but I think it's important to keep that in the back of our minds.

Not only 'abortion papers', but all of them.

Re: Snippets from every unheard demo/songs

I'm so Blue, Al Capone, and Abortion Papers!!!

I can't get Al Capone out of my head.

It is a very rational view, but I personally find it challenging to enjoy art when its message is different from what I believe. But as someone else pointed out, Michael 1) didn't put it on the album after all because he wasn't satisfied with it and b) he still had a lot of years left to change his mind about any personal belief he held.

I think Michael was a very brave musician, though. The subjects in his songs are sometimes so mindblowlingly different from what people expect from pop music. That takes a lot of guts. :)

SONG GROOVE (A/K/A ABORTION PAPERS)
As noted earlier, this is a song that Michael knew could be controversial and, as a result, he spent a lot of time thinking about the story for the song and the voice through which the song should be told. The song is about a girl whose father is a priest; she was raised in the Church and on the Bible. She gets married in the Church but decides, against the Bible, to have an abortion and she wants “Abortion Papers.” As Michael indicated in his notes, “I have to do it in a way so I don’t offend girls who have gotten abortions or bring back guilt trips so it has to be done carefully… I have to really think about it.“ This is an early example of a song with a controversial subject.
