A Place With No Name (Second Single from Xscape) Discussion

I'm gonna say this, APWNN is the first Estate released video that I actually like. For the first time, I thought to myself, "this is something Michael would do", if he'd opted to go for a 2014 In The Closet type of thing. I like how the video wasn't flooded with old video clips and groups of people. They stayed with one song (ITC), combined with a nice touch of regular footage of Michael (on the beach, the clip of him in the red shirt, the same clip but of him greeting people in the airport) and kept it simple. We all know had Michael been here, he'd take the place of the dancer guy throughout the whole video. All in all, the Estate did a good job I think.

What I said in the Video thread.

Wayne Isham is a good director, he gave HT a good concept but the horrible mixing the song had, it was ruined. I dare to say it was better done in terms of concept and cohesiveness than the other posthumous ones. I thought yesterday APWNN was better but I was wrong.

I didn't like how there were no sound effects of the dancers shuffling and dancing at the end. That's what I love about You Rock My World, hearing all those small sound effects as they stomp the ground or brush their hands aggressively against their suit :p

It just didn't feel right and repetitive in MJ's posthumous videos seeing random dancers.

I've read a couple of comments about these "random dancers". How can they be random dancers? This is the guy that Michael is talking about in the song who is driving his jeep and notices this girl. These two are the characters of this song. I don't understand how ppl don't get that.
If Michael was here, the guy would have been Michael... would you say then that these are random dancers? Michael is not here so they had to insert another guy there and the way they incorporated Michael it feels to me that they tried with success imo to have Michael be that guy in many scenes.

The first article had the first error quoted below. The second article has all of the remaining errors quoted.

I find these errors humorous.

The track, originally recorded in 1998, received a sonic facelift from producers Timbaland and SuperGate, who's previously worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Katy Perry.

Stargate.

Besides the outtakes from Michael Jackson’s In the Closet video, A Place With No Home includes scenes of a couple dancing on a beach.

APWN Name

The song is one of many that the Michael Jackson estate plans to release in the coming years.

It was released this past May.

A Place With No Name, produced by Rodney Jenkins, is the second video from Xscape so far.

Supergate, no, Stargate.

One person who is not happy, at all, about the latest Michael Jackson video is one of his brothers, Jermaine Jackson. He spoke to Oprah Winfrey about how disgusted he was about the video and how he felt that it did not represent Michael Jackson’s style of music very well.

Though Jermaine Jackson did not like how the video of Michael’s A Place With No Name turned out,

Though some people, like Michael’s brother, Jermaine, have voiced the opinion that Michael Jackson would not have liked how the video was produced,

Jermaine taped an interview with Oprah a few weeks ago and spoke about the production of the Xscape cd. He could not have seen the video before the premiere this past Wednesday evening in the U.S..

Michael Jackson fans in Times Square got the opportunity this morning to see A Place With No Name as it was shown on the huge Sony screen there.

The article is dated for Thursday. The premiere was Wednesday evening.

Stargate.

Plus Timbaland did NOT produce this song.

Hmmm just watched a few more times and I can definitely see his image in the window at about the 1:43 mark of the song. It is a very subtle thing but it is definitely there. Anyone else see it?

Woman touches the window at 1:41 and again 1:43 mark and there is no sign of MJ.
At 1:42 shows MJ but no woman and nothing like this:

I'm going to keep watching it until I see that image which is good thing as that will rake some views for the video:D

I don`t get why they did not have it released as a single on i-tunes. Are they waiting for something? So it will not charting in the next week.

I think they are expecting that the people will buy the song per the album tracklist, so that the whole album gets more attention.

I've read a couple of comments about these "random dancers".

I used Random dancers for other dancers in the other videos that had no storyline to tell. I agree that in this one they are the characters in the story.

Also now fans found their identities

The female is Danielle Acoff (dancer/ballet/model) and the male is Alvester Martin (model/actor/dancer/singer).

It seem they were very proud, happy and grateful to be a part of the video.

Yes, as far as I remember there was a confusion with LNFSG as for single page\album page …
Later single page was deleted and there was a problem too.
So now with the video there’s a link to the whole album. See no problem here.

Didn't they release a picture that was the singles cover? If they've done that and released the video what is the delay in releasing the actual single. I've already bought the album on itunes but would like to support the single too.

That's weird. CD single is released on 24 September on Amazon Germany.

Should've had an iTunes EP. It's a miss to use only views/airplay for charting.

For now you can gift the song as many times as you like! That should help it on the charts and let you share the love with friends :D

As I understand not only views/airplay will count for charting but also the number of APWNN downloads from the album page …

If I remember correctly LNFSG CD single was released months after the video release too.

It was less than a month after the single release (end of May). This is more than a month after the release. LNFSG had the bonous of people not having the album by then. By now, most of the fans got the album, so it's obvious that it won't chart as high as LNFSG.

I love the Stargate makes the song on the album documentary. I would love if they made another remix for the single!

I am beginning to wonder if they are purposefully not promoting the purchase of this song yet on iTunes in order to drive people to buy the album rather than the single. Although album sales are indeed the most important, it would also be nice for the single to do well too. So far, the only posthumous hits have been duets. In order to promote the viability of future solo releases, they should really do all they can to make this a hit. Surely, they can do more than this. At the very least, the could use this opportunity to promote the album with additional banner ads on the principle digital sites

Standalone digital singles are hardly ever done any more. It's not a surprise. LNFSG is the album version. Not a seperate single.

I was talking about an EP with remixes and a couple of alternative versions.

Thanks! But I wish they would do more to encourage people to buy the album version of the song and/or full album through additional banner ads then

The video has crossed 1M views on YouTube. Starting to gain a bit of momentum. Still 97% likes which is very good
