As far as I know it was during working with Björk on this movie that Paterson learned that she is a big MJ fan. It’s a small world. And with MJ’s love for movies, I’m sure he’s seen Dancer in the Dark, too. :)
Wow, great! I'm also quite sure that MJ saw Dancer in the Dark (it's a nice thought picturing him watching it :)).

From 42:48-43:50 she sings Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' during her song I Go Humble. :D

Thanks for recommending Peter Gabriel, unfortunately I'm not really familiar with his work (sure I know the famous stuff like the dancing chicken :D and Don't Give Up with Kate Bush etc). I didn't even know about his connection to African music, although I could have guessed it by the song Biko (which I knew for some reason). And of course I knew about his humanitarian efforts, but not to this extent, thanks for the article! It's nice to read about decent people (and many-many music to discover!).

Did the two every meet at all? I don’t think I’ve seen pictures of them together.
I didn't either. I think they were considered very different musically - which just further shows how unfortunate it is to label artists, as you're right, it would have been an interesting collaboration (the different approches would have just added to it).

Watch Michael Jackson Win Best Pop Vocal Performance For "Thriller" In 1984 | GRAMMY Rewind

What can be said about Michael Jackson's groundbreaking sixth studio album Thriller—and its classic lead single—that hasn't already been said?

At the 26th GRAMMY Awards in 1984, the Quincy Jones-produced album received a record-breaking eight golden gramophones, including Album of the Year. Single "Beat It," meanwhile, won Record Of The Year. Its lead single also won Best Pop Vocal Performance, and in today's edition of GRAMMY Rewind, you can watch the King of Pop charmingly accept that award.

Bringing sisters La Toya, Janet and Rebbie onstage with him, Jackson thanked Jones, his family, and even Steven Spielberg. He then told the audience that he'd made a deal with himself that if he won a seventh award ("which is this one"), he'd take off his shades (which he did).

Jackson, who passed away in 2009, won 13 GRAMMYs over the course of his career and was nominated for a whopping 38. He was also named a GRAMMY Legend in 1993 and Lifetime Achievement award winner in 2010.

Alright! the grammys hasn't forgot about Michael at all. great news they post this up today. King.

There’s a whole bunch of his stuff on YouTube, so if you’re ever bored and looking for a rewarding YouTube rabbit hole, I’d recommend looking up Peter Gabriel. Start anywhere, it’s all good. :)

He’s a trailblazer in terms of video technology, a stunning live performer, and his lyrics are a whole world on their own.

Here’s a video that’s somewhat relevant to this forum, regarding the whole Oprah situation. From the video description on YouTube:

“There's always one song on a Gabriel album that *seems* lightweight, but has hidden depth. "The Barry Williams Show" is a down-beat, jazzy song dealing with reality talk shows on the trash-TV such as Jerry Springer, Oprah, Ricki Lake, Conan, etc. It's mocking talk shows where the crazier the episode or guests are, the better.”

This version comes with the lyrics, so it’s easy to follow. :)

Couldn’t agree more! Hey, if it turns out you enjoy Peter Gabriel, we can always start an appreciation thread over at Anything Goes and discuss these similarities and differencies. :)

EDIT

Oh, one more, because I just remembered this one! I forgot to mention that PG’s stage designs are also always pure eye-candy. They use that round stage in many different ways throughout the concert, so you can click on a few more to find out what else they do in other songs: “Growing Up Live in Milano 2003”. :)

And she really has that fascinating childlike innocence/enthusiasm about her, I think that's what she has so deeply in common with MJ. I've recently found the clip when she picks up videos, including Rock With You, and what she says about MJ and magic, and how she says it is amazing.

That's a good idea, and thanks for the recommendations! :) It will take some time though as I have to give due time and circumstances to the things I'm interested in (can't listen/watch them as background experience).

Fans of the King of Pop discover that a website called toobadawards.com has just appeared in order to propose that each year, fans and internet users at large, will have the opportunity to vote to designate the people , organizations or societies to whom they wish to say "Leave Michael Jackson alone!" ".

For the people behind this project, the media treatment of Michael Jackson shows the excesses of the system. With these awards, they want to educate internet users, with humor and style, about the need to question what they see on television.
On this occasion, they chose for this award, to offer a representation of Michael Jackson surrounded by a winged woman. The pose of the characters is inspired by a live performance by Michael Jackson in 1993 where he interpreted "Will You Be There". We can read in the presentation of the organizers on this subject: “ We found this moment very strong: a winged woman, like the Egyptian goddess of truth and justice Maat, protected him . "

For the organizers, who can be found among the MICHAELzine team that you certainly know, these "Too Bad Awards" are not awards but rather anti-awards like the Razzie Awards in Quebec or the Gérards television and cinema in France. For them, nominating someone or awarding them an award will never be synonymous with a call to hatred. They simply denounce with the sole ambition; that internet users will uncover, through their votes, the lies and defamations against Michael Jackson.

The more voters there are, the more legitimate the awards will be. This is why everything is translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.

Votes are taken here from until 9 Mar 2020.

You can vote for the worst journalist, the worst television program in 2019, the worst trash media of 2019, the worst jacket flip, the worst intellectual dishonesty, the biggest lie and finally for the 2019 super-mythomaniac.

1985 prediction of what Michael would look like in the year 2000. Looks pretty reasonable, in my opinion, considering that the world didn’t know about his vitiligo yet. But why did they have to add a mustache?

via @historylvrsclub on Twitter

Even if he didn't have vitiligo I don't think would look like that. lol. i'm not sure. it was only an prediction. Michael had a beard late his life but he mostly always cut it off. I really wish he let his beard grow more often. talk about good looking.

The votes are now closed for the 2020 edition of the Too BAD Awards. Soon we will reveal all the details.
The first question is: did the fans mobilize to send a strong message ?
The answer is positive and we would like to thank websites without which this beautiful result would not have been possible. We are thinking in particular of MJFrance.com but also the podcast ” Salut Les Fans” by Davy Appert and the numerous individual publications on facebook (thanks to Lidwine) from fans and groups.
You were amazing for the first edition. This concept is brand new and this bet was not won.
We are thinking about paying a little tribute to MJ for the revelation of the results. Thank you for your patience and for understanding that we need to take several days of reflection for the form to be given to the results of this 1st edition.
Humor is like a pizza, it’s is a dish best served hot. We are currently cooking…
See you soon. Take care.

A bientôt.

Prenez soin de vous.

Gotta Have Rock and Roll currently has 58 Michael Jackson items up for auction. Many of them are signed photos and other signed paraphernalia, but there are a few more interesting items, too. Some are quite cheap, for example, there are Dangerous Tour backstage passes, current bid $20.

This beautiful Bush and Tompkins jacket and brooch is my favourite - minimum bid $10000, though. :(
