'Sonic Fantasy' Documentary by Marcos Cabotá [MERGED]

Hi guys, my name is Toni Arias, part of the team working on Sonic Fantasy. I will try answer some questions or comments (of course is a work in progress and I can't talk openly about every aspect) :)

I really hope they don’t portray it as Bruce’s and Quincy’s product. The material so far doesn’t mention MJ a lot …

The main character of the documentary is Bruce Swedien and his role on Thriller, his vision, his story... but in the end, it's a Michael Jackson documentary.

I hope they talk about Michael. he was the one who made it and thought about it after all. and Quincy better not say any negative crap about Michael in any form

You're right, Bruce Swedien worked in thousands of records, but Thriller is what it is because of Michael. There will be A LOT of MJ on it. 0% crap about him. Guaranteed.

Last I heard they had it scheduled for this summer, but not sure how the pandemic affects their schedule. Guess it depends on whether or not they’re done filming already.

The covid crisis had affected the release date so far. It will be later this year.

Great content and a long-overdue. Nothing against Quincy but as I gather more and more information about the men behind the scenes I start to think that Bruce has at least as much, if not even more impact in MJ's creative work. It was definitely team work, and I appreciate to learn more about these contributors, it's fascinating.

Thanks for sharing the insight! :)

Hey! Thanks for the answers.
Are you able to tell us whether or not we will see new footage of Michael in the studio?

This looks A-MAIZING! Can’t wait to watch it.
Did they announce when it’s coming out?

It was due in Summer 2020 but the pandemic has delayed post-production work and so the new date is TBD.

Well thank you for the answers. good to see someone who working on the film is a member here. :)

I never opened this thread because I thought it was a about a sonic game that somehow got connected to MJ.

What it actually is about is much more interesting though, hopefully MJ's contribution for the album isn't diminished to just vocals, Quincy is already seen as the genius behind MJ and not MJ himself. It's about time people realize MJ was not just a good singer and dancer but also had great song ideas and talent in the studio.

Who are these people you speak of? Aside from idiots, I mean.

OK. I agree with you on this.

You know them , those music snobs, who think highly of the likes of Radiohead, Prince and David Bowie while diminishing the brilliance of Michael, Elvis and others.
The type of people who think you can only be a brilliant artist if you master one or more instruments and write and compose all of your music yourself.

Everybody should know Michael was an great artist as well. yes he could dance and sing. but he knew how he want it his songs to sound like etc. i guess more causal fans don't look in to that.

Michael was highly talented. that's not saying he didn't always wrote his own songs though. a lot artists don't. but a lot do. like Prince for example.

no artist better then the other. and i wish fans stop doing that.

They are the typical arrogant white rock fans who over hype all rock artists, while undermining non rock artists. I don't usually take their opinions seriously.

Music websites all over the internet are chock full of those people, it are also these kind of people who often vote in the all time radio charts I posted about. Its full of rock tracks (hotel California, bohemian rhapsody, child in time etc) in the top 100 while equally epic black songs like "papa was a rolling stone" or Isaac Hayes' "walk on" are either not there or in very low positions.

Well that's not Michael so this docu won't change that. Don't lose any sleep over it.

For those of u who dont know who Marcos (the creator of the doc) is, he's the guy that walks beside MJ en LIVING WITH MJ during his German visit, shouting **** THE PRESS, MJ YOU.RE THE BEST before the cameraman falls down.

Wow, that’s awesome.(y)

That's the point, this doc could perhaps show how he really created his music.
I'm not that interested in seeing Quincy sitting in the studio and Michael behind the mike, I want to see them discuss music and trading ideas, beatbox, jamming, creating.
If we only see get to see MJ behind the mike, taking orders from Quincy the perception will not change. I am 100% certain MJ was perfectly capable of completely writing, composing and producing his own music.

Also I'm not losing any sleep over it, I sleep like a baby.

Then don't watch it. maybe it's not for you to watch. the doc is about Michael but also a team of people who made the album with him. it's a Michael doc.

Hahahaha neat. glad to see fans of Michael making positive docs. and Michael loved that quote.

You seem overly concerned about appealing to people who are wilfully ignorant.

Glad to hear you are sleeping well.

I do have something against Quincy. The dude goes out of his way to trash MJ and downplay him. Constantly.

And I'm really tired of it. I'm going to be really pissed off if he does it in this documentary.

He's trashing others too who aren't even here anymore to defend themselves, and I agree it's a shame, but he only started doing this in recent years though so I'm not ruling out the possibility that he's not exactly "well" anymore. :/ In the end it's himself who he disrespect the most with this kind of behaviour, not his targets.

Considering this and his achievements I try to overlook his recent conduct and concentrate on his unmatched contribution to the music world and black/jazz/pop culture during decades, which can't be erased even by himself. I agree though that the effort to downplay MJ is very tiring and needs to end.

Michael and Quincy always had problems. the two just put up with it because of business. look what happen when Michael didn't want him to do the dangerous album? Quincy got mad about it and i don't think he ever got over it.

Quincy has talent. that's not saying that. just over the years he really showed how he really are. lying about Michael and saying rude things about him. doing it all for money because he couldn't face the fact Michael want it to move on and try different things to his music.

Let it go Quincy. Michael want it to move on. not sure why he except him to be with him forever because all artists move on and try different things. Q knew Michael made him that money. that why he was so upset about it.

most people don't even know who Q is until they realize he was the one who helped him with 3 albums and at the grammys at 1984. and that's also make Q bitter. which is understandable.

I have no problem QJ doing this doc. Xtarlight and Mpenziwe said he won't say anything bad about Michael just the album and him and MJ working on it as a team.

whatever we like QJ or not he help it with Thriller. I have no problem with that just his bad talk about Michael. that's the only thing that's worry me.

i don't think he gonna say anything bad about him. at least we all know as of right now.
