Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album) [MERGED]

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

Whenever I hear "If You Don't Love Me" I allways think it brings you in a good mood.

I don't know who wrote and produced that song with Michael? Because it doesn't sound like other Bryan Loren collaborations. Is that with Bryan? Is with someone else? Does anyone know?

I'm actually not quite sure. According to the sound I would say Bryan Loren or Bill Bottrell. I try to find it out

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

Okey maybe I found something:

No idea if it's the real Bill Bottrell but it seems to be a page were people could ask questions after Michael passed:

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-...rked-michael-jacksons-dangerous-album-16.html

Question of a fan:

* Overall, how many songs did you write for Michael ?
How many did you record with him ?
Are there "gems" you worked on with him we may happen to hear in the future ?

Bill Bottrell:

I wrote on Monkey Business, Dangerous, Black or White, Give In To Me.
The core of my work during the Dangerous period, was, for me, Black or White, Earth Song, Dangerous, and Monkey Business. Who Is It and Give In To Me were late bloomers, and didn't, I feel, have as much of my influence. I was dissapointed when Monkey and Earth didn't make the record, but I got over it.
I have to look through my tapes to see what else is there, I can't remember. But I do remember If You Don't Love Me, always was a bit of an orphan, but somebody leaked it on Youtube and now it sounds pretty fun. There was also "Streetwalker" a true orphan, I made that track while MJ was on tour for Bad. Holed up at Smoketree for a couple weeks, played all the stuff, and my friend Jasun Martz came and played the blues harp solo, when I sent it in Michael said, "Billy that harmonica is ignorant!" (and not in a good way) I wrote the whole thing off until noticing a week ago that they released it! As is.

If we consider the leak date it could also be a song Bryan kind of worked on. It leaked on the same day in 2007 (5 December 2007) as the other Bryan Loren songs: She Got It, Lisa It's Your Birthday, Work that Body. Only Serious Effect leaked earlier that year (7 July 2007)
Didn't Bryan Loren himself leak some of his songs?? So maybe that's an indicator that he worked on it.

^That is great find! Thank you for that. I also think it should be Michael and Bill outtake. It has that Bill's rock feel. I don't hear Bryan in that one.

Yes, that is real. That page/forum had many MJ collaborators talking about working with MJ.

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

Brad confirmed in a seminar that MJ wrote with Bill Bottrell the song '' If you don't love me''.

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

If they were to do a double disc version of Dangerous as an anniversary celebration.. I say model it after the "decade" album he originally planned that turned into Dangerous. Does not have to to be the exact set up but could be a "Decade edition" with some tracks that were set for that album..

Thanks for the link! There are great stories on that site:

I believe there were a couple of sundry Jacksons sessions over the next couple of years, but by that time, Michael was hugely popular and I didn't see him as much. The next time was really in 1995, when Robmix and I worked on the HIStory album. Rob worked on this for quite a long time (2 years?), while I worked on it for a few months. We were all holed up in Larrabee North, where Bruce had a room (or were you guys at Record One, Rob?)...Eddie Delena was recording quite a lot Michael's vocals at Larrabee in one room, and I was put in another room to engineer for whomever needed it...my most memorable session being some days with Dallas Austin and on one day, recording The Notorious B.I.G. for his rap on "This Time Around". There I was, standing in a room with Dallas, Biggie and Michael. I'll never forget it.

The final days of that album were made interesting, by Bruce giving me the task to sequence the album and edit it down to a size that we could fit onto a CD. This was no small undertaking, as about 7 minutes needed to be trimmed somewhere. I laid this all out in Sound Tools and came to know every bar of every song very intimately. I found places where songs could be tightened up and came up with many suggestions. On the night of mastering, I was put in a room at Bernie Grundman's with my Sound Tools rig, and in this room, I would have to "negotiate" with Michael about what to take out. I'll never forget this night...Michael came in, and Bruce told MJ that we would have to remove either 1) one whole song or 2) edit the others to fit onto a CD. We chose the latter...I started with song one and played Michael my edits, "Oh no, we can't take THAT out...it's my favorite part of the album!". OK. Let's try another, "Oh no, we MUST keep those four bars". OK...let's go to the vamp, which carries on for two minutes...how about removing these eight bars, "Oh no, that's my favorite part of the vamp!". Well, you get the picture. Meanwhile, Jimmy Jam was in with us, telling Michael that all these edits were killer and actually make things better. And over the course of about 5 hours, we got it down. By this time, it was probably 3:00am, and I was wiped out. Bruce walked in..."Okay, John, I want you to make all these edits on the 1/2" masters right now!". My first thought was, "You've GOT to be kidding!" I had used some crossfades in Tools and such, plus I was worn out from "bartering" with Michael. But, into Bernie's room we went, and with Bruce over my shoulder, I cut the 1/2" tapes. As I recall, this took a couple of hours, and we were done. By the way, video footage of my "bartering session" with Michael exists, although I was never able to get a copy. Perhaps someday!

After that album's completion, we were all invited to The Neverland Ranch with spouses and kids for a day of fun, with Michael as our host. What a memorable day that I will recount in another post...my arms hurt now!

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

I just rediscovered For All Time and have to say that I love this song so much! If there will be a Dangerous 30 anniversary edition I hope they would put that song on a second disc too even though it already was released on Thriller 25.
Of course only if there is enough space on the CD. Otherwise I would love to get new not leaked material

I completely agree. I've always loved For All Time. It reminds me of all the good moments in my life. One of MJ's best ballads and one of his most underrated tracks imo.

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

No more remixes. They were a blemish on both Thriller25 and Bad25.

There are some good mixes on the individual maxi single releases from the album. I won't mind those being added on. But no more Afrojack.

But when the Estate is concerned: Have low hopes to begin with and be pleasantly surprised when it's not so bad!

What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

Yeah, what would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

Been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now.
What would the release look like? (Promotion etc)
What would be included that would make it perfect for us fans?

What demos and unreleased songs would you like to hear?

Which concert from the Dangerous World Tour would be the best to put out on blu-ray? (My choice, one of them Wembley shows!)

JUST LOOK THIS JAM PERFORMANCE!

I would also like to see a documentary made by Spike Lee!
Some rare and unseen photos would be cool!

There is so much they could do to make this release amazing.

(Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I just woke up and got exited to write down my thougths lol)

Excited to hear your thoughts/ideas

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

The perfect 30th anniversary would be like this:

Box set including 2 CDs + 1 DVD + 1 Blu ray
CD 1: The Original Album
CD 2: Demos and Unreleased Songs
DVD: The Wembley 1992 Concert (possibly the best Dangerous Tour show ever)
Blu ray: The Dangerous Era Documentary

I'm sure that a certain someone will reply to me and say "we live in the 8K era"... "DVD is dead"... etc - but the people who work behind the Estate are lazy. This time I'll settle if they source the concert from the master tape.

I agree with this list, but for the Demos and Unreleased Songs part I hope they don't release those that we already know and that are available online since decades.

What an exciting performance!!!!!!! - pure energy and greatness!!!!!!!!!!

:heart::heart::heart:

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

My perfect anniversary edition should be a box set that consists of 4 cds, 1 DVD and 1 Blu-ray.

My Dream Dangerous 30th anniversary edition would look something like this:

First CD: Original Album

Second CD: Some unreleased Demos + Other Dangerous Era songs that were released near the release of Dangerous but weren't on the album + Any songs that were recorded during the Dangerous era but released on posthumous albums.

1) Serious Effect
2) Man In Black
3) If You Don't Love Me
4) Whatzupwithu
5) Someone Put Your Hand Out
6) Jane is a Groupie
7) She Got It
8) Slave To The Rhythm (original version)
9) Ghost of Another Lover

Third CD: Demos or Alternate Takes of the 14 songs released on Dangerous

Fourth CD: Live album from Dangerous Tour. Wembley 92 would be my preference.

DVD: Dangerous Tour Wembley 92

Blu-ray: Dangerous documentary, which goes into depth in regards to MJ's split from Quincy and his desire to go in a different direction.

And one more thing .... NO CRAPPY REMIXES!

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

My ideal release:

Disc 1: Original Album
Disc 2: 2001 Bonus Tracks
Disc 3: Additional Bonus Tracks & Album Demos

Would they release that much bonus content on an anniversary release? Bad25's bonus content was sparse, though.

Re: Dangerous 30 (speculation on double album)

I could say what I want, but I'll go with the most I think the estate will do, the original album, and a second disc of demos of the album tracks. I would actually prefer that to them giving us demos we've already had for years.

Highly unlikely, but there's more than enough material for it!

There are plenty of Dangerous outtakes that are 25 to 30% finished (e.g., "Seven Digits," "Don't Believe It," "Deep in the Night," "Jane is a Groupie," "Ghost of Another Lover") that have no other use. Pair those with one or two fully-finished outtakes, early cuts of album tracks, instrumental tracks that were never given vocals, and maybe some later versions of songs we've already heard (e.g., "Don't Be Messin' 'Round") and you could easily fill two discs of material.

Even though I've complained about releasing long-available material, I really want some of the leaked tracks to get their time in the spotlight. "If You Don't Love Me," "She Got It," and "Serious Effect" are some of my favorite unreleased tracks.

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

You can't do a Dangerous album that includes some of the best unreleased tracks without Bryan Loren being involved and well, good luck with that.

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

The best unreleased track is probably Joy. I'd assume that's complete but the stories are always so conflicting.

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

Wait...what? Is there confirmation that they'll be doing something for Dangerous 30?

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

John Branca mentioned that he'd like to do something for Dangerous at some point, and said something along the lines of Dangerous 30 being a possibility. So, not a confirmation, but more than we usually get in terms of project commentary.

In 2017, they announced in their official webpage that they intend to release anniversary albums and documentaries for both the ‘Dangerous’ and the ‘HIStory’ album.

That announcement still exists in their webpage, so this means that they still consider releasing a ‘Dangerous 30’ box set (anniversary album plus a documentary), or at least that they have not ruled out that possibility.

But in case of such a release, they are not going to release another DVD Dangerous concert (because of the already officially released DVD Bucharest concert which has been more than enough for both the fans and the general public).

There are still many unheard demos/incomplete songs from the ‘Dangerous’ era.

For example, some of these songs come from Shana Mangatal’s cassettes that she has in her own collection (including copies of certain Bryan Loren’s unheard songs).

Bryan Loren is willing to give his written permission for their release (of some of these unheard songs that he along with Michael Jackson together worked on at that time) as long as he gets the royalties he deserves.

It would be interesting to hear some of these Bryan Loren’s unheard songs, and also it would be an opportunity for Bryan Loren himself to prove his own claims that these unheard songs influenced so much the sound and musical style of Michael Jackson’s later studio albums (after ‘Dangerous’).

Re: What would the perfect 30th anniversary release of the Dangerous album look like?

I have a feeling that if they release a Dangerous 30th, the concerts is going to be Mexico 93. I remember that one being rumored some time ago. That would be a terrible choice imo.

My crystal ball says it'll be Copenhagen '92. Its moderate video quality meet the estates requirements.:D
